Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread
Yes, that 3 guard rotation would be beautiful I agree, but we would need a backup PG.
I think the best way to play would be to start Demar and Smith and play Bayless at the backup 2 as a Jason Terry strictly scoring role. Unless they start him every game for at least a year he will not develop into a real PG but it is clear he is very quick and athletic and can really score.
I think we are clearly headed on the right track either way.

I'd give him a C+
How can you when you look at the players drafted after the players we got.
Especially with the #1 pick, you got 29 more players who can make you look bad in the 1st round. Roy, Aldridge, Gay, Rondo(21), were the only good players selected in that draft. I'd give that grade a B
Picked Demar #10. Jennings/Holiday/Collison/Ty Lawson/Casspi are the best players picked after... I'll take Demar 10x over. Atleast another B
Ed Davis @ 13. There wasn't any player drafted after him with any sort of the potential or stats better than Ed. Thats an A
So really, I don't see a bad pick, definately no head scratchers

you need to be able to identify the future allstar with the no.1 pick. I don't get paid the big bucks but I thought that was Aldridge... It turns out it was Roy, Rondo and possibly Gay this year. D
DeMar isn't bad but the jury is still out imo... there are a couple guy selected after him that could explode. B
Ed Davis is looking like a steal though I'm certain they would've selected Cole Aldrich if he were available. B+

Hilarious.

Finally something we agree on. It would've rivaled Dave Chappelle's blind black white supremist skit!

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread
Roy has had bad knees from the jump and now his career is in jepordy. Rondo was selected 21st. No1 expected him to do what he's doing. Maybe in a different role he doesn't become as good as he is being drafted where he was. Definately not as early neway. Rudy gay is good, but if we took him # 1, we could still be having this same convo. Picking a potential 20pt scorer can not be classified as a D pick unless you skipped on one of the greats!!
BC called Eds agent after utah skipped on him and said if he's around when its our turn then we are picking him. That says Ed was one of the players he wanted. They wanted cole too, but only b/c they thought Ed wasn't going to be there.

Again I don't get paid to make those types of decisions but the responsibility of the organization with the no.1 pick is to identify the future all star they didn't do that for whatever reason(Jim Kelly? Maurizio Pigadhini?)
20pt scorers who play C and average 5 boards a game and play next to no D are not all that valuable. In fact 20ppg guys are not that hard to find when you put them in a system where they are the focal point of your offense. David Lee was a 20 pt guy Aldridge is a 20 pt guy, the list goes on and on...

If it wasn't for BC, we would have got Morrison(1)/TWill(9)/Aldrich(13)

Aldrich wasn't available when we selected. but yes it could be worse.

Lee is not a bad player, nor is Aldridge either. Whos to say that AB wont become an All-star either? He'd be one this yr if we had a few more wins which is in no way his fault. How many all-star appearances do we have from the draft neway? 1 or 2 from Roy who'll prolly never get to that level again, 1 or 2 from Rondo, once again picked at 21.

Absolutely. I agree we should penalize someone for a hypothetical situation that did not occur based on information you have no knowledge of. That's how you grade a draft.

Well until that magical day it wasn't the right selection.
And truly call me crazy but I'd take the five years of Roy and Bosh as a tandem, who knows how far they would've gotten us? Conference finals? Its five years of exciting basketball vs. potentially 10 of mediocrity.

If Ed avg close to double double and 2 blocks per game in the future, that B+ will be A- for sure. And Ed's in a better team situation than ever, his only competition is Amir (which isn't much of a threat)...if he was in Golden States (David Lee), Jazz (Millsap), Pacer (umm...interesting), Grizzles (zach)...so...Amir is better off the bench anyways.

4 years. 4 years of trying to go through Lebron and the Celtics, and later the Magic. Rookie Roy and Bosh weren't getting to the conference finals. Then we end up with Bosh gone and 80 million tied up in a guy with no knees. That's what you were looking for in hindsight for the last 4 years? A possible second round series and blown capspace?

At least we're in the discussion and who knows what happens with the rest of the roster if we have Roy and Bosh and the Cap space... Its all speculative but I'd take 5 yrs of competitive basketball over this version of treadmill basketball. You can't be a contender forever... 5 yrs of exciting playoff basketball is good return to me even if we only get to the conference finals once.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread
^^ A 4yr cap for your #1 pick is what you want??? I'd rather have bargs play poorly on his rookie deal and then have him expolde or atleast show the potential too still while on his 2nd contract, rather than have some1 explode while on their rookie deal & then regress and become injury prone there after... Thats just me tho.

On another note, what are the thoughts on Jan Vassley. 6'11 SF that seems to play agressive on both sides of the ball??

You might take 5 years, but we'd only have had 4 years with Roy and Bosh (06/07, 07/08, 08/09, 09/10), one of which would have been Roy's rookie season, and the rest would have required going through 55-60 win Celtics, Cavs, and Magic teams. Then we'd be **** with Roy's contract and Bosh is gone to Miami. Terrible plan. If we're playing the hindsight game the Raps clearly should have taken Rondo at #1. Or Gay/Aldridge/Bargs and traded CV for something and a pick to get Rondo. That still probably wouldn't have been enough to get past significantly better teams. And I don't see why Bosh stays and doesn't go to Miami anyway.

I have been watching the Colorado-Missouri game. Alec Burks has looked great with 35 points leading Colorado to a big upset over a top 10 team. Certainly looks like a legit lotto pick.
