Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
Joe Webb looked very impressive in his 1st start tonight at Philadelphia (a potential Super Bowl contender). He went 17-26 with 195 passing yards, 31 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD with 0 turnovers.
In the 4th quarter the Eagles made drive to cut the lead down to 3. Right as they scored they showed Webb on the bench nodding his head up and down as if he was saying no big deal I got this. That next drive he completed a BIG TIME throw to Percy Harvin over the middle on a 3rd & 13. That lead to a Adrian Peterson 30 yard run to the 1 yard line in which we scored a touchdown on an Adrian Peterson run. He showed poise, composure, and the ability to make plays throughout the whole game. He knew when to throw the ball away when he needed to, and when to take a sack without trying to force anything. For being a kid drafted in the 6th round (199th pick) as a WR, he sure has shown some starter type QB qualities.
I realize it's one game and we played well as a team but I think tonights performance will definitely give him an opportunity to win a starting QB job next season. Lets see how he performs in the last game of the season vs. the Lions.
Thoughts?

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
He will need to have an ultra impressive followup game vs Detroit, for me not to think that QB is one of our 1st round priorities.
Moving down to pick 13-14, likely takes Mallet, the top 2 CB, and top DE off the board.
Jake Locker could still be there perhaps.

Well, As long as Cedric Griffin can come back healthy, with Winfield I think we could be ok at CB. Even though he hasn't played and has played pretty poorly we still have Chris Cook who is only a rookie.
As far as DE, I think we have some nice backup options in Robison if we can sign him for cheap. Ray Edwards seems to be on his way out at the end of the season.
I agree that our main goal is to find our next QB whether its Webb or someone in the draft. If not, we definitely need to go and grab an offensive lineman without question. We have been very poor on the line this year.

I think we have to pick a QB no matter what happens in the last game. I think I'd prefer Cam Newton over Jake Locker or maybe even over Ryan Mallet.

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
Honestly, Cam would be my last choice at the 14-ish draft spot if we were going QB.
Likely my QB board.. looks like Mallet then Locker. Gabbert later on in the draft. Webb could develop into exactly what Cam provides... so if no Mallet or Locker... id rather they pick up a DL player who falls or trade back if possible.

Mallet's complete lack of mobility scares me and Locker was mediocre at the college level. I don't anything about Gabbert.

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
Sooo Luck goes back to Stanford and Gabbert declares.
With another prospect off the board it really lowers the chances of a top CB/DE/DT falling.
At #12 we sit in no mans land.... possibility too high to select an OL and maybe the 4 QB are all off the board. Maybe we're content with taking the 3rd CB off the board Harris at #12.
Possibility I like is to trade down to bottom of round 1 (and hope to aquire a 1st round pick in next years draft).... Need to check the pick value board tho.
At the bottom of round 1 I'd take... OL help (Smith/Carimi/Solder/Pouncey) whomever available.

Yeah, I have some worries about Mallet as well. He's not a statue or anything but he isn't the most mobile guy. It also seems like him throwing the ball takes forever but that may just seem like that because he's so big. Also, he seems to make A LOT of bone head throws in crunch time which scares me the most. We don't need another Brett Favre. I don't know much about Gabbert too.

I agree. What I find interesting is that the Vikings are interviewing Josh McDaniels for offense coordinator tomorrow and at the same time Denver is letting Orton go for a 2nd round pick. Orton played pretty good under McDaniels, so does he fallow him here? Do we have a QB drop to us at 12? Do we trade our pick, grab our next biggest need, and maybe take a QB later in the draft and hope McDaniels (if hired) can mold him like he did Brady? So many questions to be answered this off-season.

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
No way that I'd give a 2nd for Orton... and I'd expect the asking price for him to drop as the interest level is prolly pretty low with 4 1st round QB prospects and vets available for relatively cheap.
I'd give a 4th for Orton... later when no one bites
I'd rather someone other then Josh McDaniels but definitely want Bevell gone (and dont want him demoted to QB coach or something)

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
I'd really like to take a QB in the 1st round, we want get started with rebuilding and could really use a high level QB prospect. If there's no one you like there's nothing you can do about that, but I still like Cam Newton at our spot. Maybe he doesn't have the ideal arm, but he did complete nearly 70 percent of his passes this year to go along with a 28 and 6 TD-Int ratio. We also need someone with mobility considering the current state of our O-line and Newton definitely has that.

I really don't want to give up a 2nd for Orton. At the same time, I think he's better than any of the rookie options.

I know newton is the noob rube choice, but I'm totally on board w/ Cam as the pick in the first.

Yeah even though people like Joe Webb and there are a lot of Cam Newton haters as well as worshippers, I think he is the logical choice at #12. Otherwise the only other thing that would make sense is trade a couple picks down. If we do that, we have pretty much a wide open board. We could take Solder, Mallett, Carimi, Castonzo, Pouncey, and maybe Jake Locker.

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
Im beginning to wonder if we culd pass on QB in round 1... if Mallet/Locker/Newton all grade out rather equal. I would be down with taking another player (maybe a Defensive player), and taking a chance that one of the 3 remaining QB falls to our 2nd round pick.
Alternative would be to trade down, and pick up your QB there later in the 1st round.
All this depends on how many are left when Vikings are on the clock at 12, and how they grade out in comparision.

I think we go a senior qb for a season and wait for luck next year, on a quiet note as Vikings fans who do we root for in the superbowl? packers or steelers?

We're not going to have shot at Luck unless things go really bad.

I really cant seeing us having a better season next year, and we have pieces to move up for Luck, just depends on a whole lot of things really.

Re: Is Joe Webb the Vikings future QB??
You can't count on someone being willing to trade down from Luck. It's not going to happen, and we're probably not going to be the worst team league either. We still have Peterson, Harvin, Allen and enough good players that there's no reason we should finish 3-13.
If there's a QB available that we like, we should take him.

Black and Yellow all the way. I will NEVER root for the Packers.
