Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
Yes I should have assumed that he had a lot to do with their failures.
Diego, like Misimovic, is a system player...Juve couldn't find the right spot to put him; i guess no one has been able to since he left Bremen. To me Kjaer was just a pretty solid defender at Palermo. I didn't think he was worth 12 million euro, but few million less.
Barzagli getting any playing time this year?
Merry Christmas, happy holidays to all!

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
Barzagli played almost the max. possible amount of minutes played.
He's pretty decent I think. Kjaer was the guy that made a lot of mistakes.
They got 25 goals against which is relatively solid for the Bundesliga (only 2 teams have less than 20 against). Anyway, coming into a game you know they're going to receive at least 1 goal against often but their offense isn't working good enough to outscore the opponent.

I am glad Barzagli is playing. I guess their most recent game (which happens to be one of the only 2 i watched so far) is the game only he did not play.
Looking forward to catching up on this league, among others.

ManCity wants to buy Dzeko for 35m. He has a buyout clause for 40m, but Wolfsburg is rumored to sell him slightly below market value, and buy Kevin Kuranyi back from Moscow.
Comment: how many strikers would ManCity have then? 7?

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
Munich just bought Luiz Gustavo from Hoffenheim. Looks like he'll be the replacement for Mark van Bommel. I think that was a wise decision from Munich. I love that guy. Gustavo is a great player and possibly a real bargain at 15 mil. €. He's also very versatile. Can play central/wing back and defensive midfield.
David Alaba is going on loan to Hoffenheim in exchange. That's a good move for Munich as well and will pay of. Alaba is one of their biggest talents but he was injured lately and stuck in the rotation behind guys like Müller, Schweinsteiger and van Bommel.

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
City are ready to sell Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Wright Philipps and Bellamy for free but the issue is that no one else wants to pay them 150k a week in salaries. So most teams want City to either make a cash payment upfront while unloading the player (hilarious I know) or pay a part of their salaries throughout the contract, which they aren't ready to do.

Other than maybe Wolfsburg I can't see anyone in the Bundesliga jumping at those players.
Most teams don't have enough money to pay them their salary and honestly the only one I'd really want to see in the BL is Adebayor.

Santa Cruz actually turned down a move to Lazio last week cause he wants to just stay put for his family's sake or something like that

I wouldn't want to relocate as well if I'd make that much money.

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
Coach Ralf Rangnick has left Hoffenheim, ending a (until then) seemingly perfect 5 year run with the Krauichgauers. Word is that him and billionaire owner Dietmar Hopp increasingly clashed, and that the Luis Gustavo transfer was done without Rangnick's approval. This was the straw that broke the camel's back.
As a guy who already followed Hoffenheim (Heidelberg is not too far away from my club Kaiserslautern) when they were in the Regionalliga, this comes as a shock. Rangnick may have been cranky and too eager to give up on seemingly "old" players (Teber, Z. Löw, Nilsson), but I liked his philosophy of flowing offense with young players (L. Gustavo, C. Eduardo, Obasi, Beck, Ba, Ibisevic, Compper and others). Seeing Marco Pezzuaoli (sp?) on the TSG bench will be strange.

The DFL (Deutsche Fussball Liga = German Football Association or kind of) is reviewing the Gustavo transfer as it could be illegal. I have no idea what it could be about, though.

IIRC the DFL is checking whether the Gustavo transfer was initiated by the the front office of Hoffenheim or by their patron, Dietmar Hopp. If the FO had the idea itself, everything is ok, but if Hopp (who is only a sponsor) forced the club FO to sell him, it is illegal: DFL law ("50+1 rule") says only FO members can make business decisions.

So how are they going to prove that Hopp forced the club? That's unprovable because nobody in that clubs front office will admit that Hopp forced them to sell Gustavo. That would be dumb as hell considering Hopp would be very mad at the FO then and might think about investing his money elsewhere.

Freddy Adu, ex-wunderkind, is trying out at FC Ingolstadt, 17th in the Second Bundesliga.
Sad ending for a guy who was supposed to be the next Pele.

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
I heard Bayern is about to buy Domenico Criscito for 13 mil. €. They sure have a lot of money to give away this winter break.

Re: 2010/11 Bundesliga-Thread
I don't know about Criscito as a player. I heard Napoli is close to getting him as well...
But he came up playing for all of Italy's youth teams, and when he was with Juve he had a lot of potential and was hyped to become the next Cannavaro or something. They loaned him so he could get some experience and because they said he was too weak (never ended up wanting him back despite their needs for wing backs).
He had a great couple years at Genoa, but this year he looks average. I feel like he is actually getting worse as he gets older, and I question his intensity, confidence, and desire to be great. I don't see him succeeding at Bayern, or any big club for that matter...13 mil is too much

I don't think he would succeed either.
