Ime Udoka Waived

The Spurs have waived swingman Ime Udoka.

San Antonio made the announcement on Wednesday.

He played sparingly in 20 games after being signed in November.

The Spurs have just 12 players on their roster.

Not really going to miss him his play was barely average.

I hope we go after Antoine Wright now. He would be a good fit with this team.

Not too surprising, though the timing of it is curious with Anderson still out w/injury.

He had a rep as a defensive specialist and long range shooter, he provided neither this time around.

I am also not surprised. I was thinking about Rodney Carney (just got waived by Golden State) or Jawad Williams but Wright also sounds like an interesting prospect. At least we can see if a player can fit before Anderson is back from his injury.

It's just too bad you don't have much work in the Spurs forum though. Or would you like me to create threads for you to lock just so you feel like you're doing your job here in our forum? haha...

Do the spurs have any interesting in adding a more legit back-up SF?

They've been playing Parker/Hill/Neal/Nobili/Jefferson at the 1-2-3 spots. That's a pretty undersized group when Jefferson goes to the bench. Since they are presumably hoping to beat Bos or Mia in the championship they will need to guard Pierce or LeBron. Are Neal and Ginobili big and physical enough to do that, or should the Spurs be looking to get a more effective version of Udoka?

In a way I guess we are looking for a more effective version of Udoka. We need someone that play defense and hang with some of the bigger SF's out there. Whoever we sign isn't going to a rotation player for us though. Most of the minutes off the bench will go to Hill and Neal and Anderson should get some minutes when he gets healthy.

He just isn't that good... can't score and isn't a lockdown defender.

It would help if he was playing better defense. Actually, it would help if he's a little taller. Udoka at 6'5'' isn't your ideal SF. At this point, I really rather we keep Bobby Simmons. I think that experiment didn't last long enough for us (fans) to really know whether it works or not. Udoka, however, is widely viewed as a failed experiment. He didn't stand out defensively and he's killing us offensively.

I've wanted us to get Antoine Wright the last couple summers... he can shoot and defend and has good overall size, and is athletic. Not as high of an IQ, but same goes for Rodney Carney.

Jawad Williams wouldn't be a bad option, either.
