Sir Charles about Suns after trade

Post#1 » by NiGhtWiSh » Fri Jan 7, 2011 3:36 pm

Chuck: "I really like the trade they made. I'm a big Mickael Pietrus fan. I really like (Marcin) Gortat. But the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over. At some point, they have to change their philosophy. It ain't going to work the way they've been doing it. You can't win championships by outscoring people.

"I think that's a great trade for the Suns, but if you're going to upgrade your talent with players who can defend and rebound but you're not going to change your philosophy, it's irrelevant."

Amen!!!!!!
It's just like i always say :)))))) Stop shooting - START DEFENDING!! Defence is the best offence. Gives proud, confidence and a lot of easy points after steals or rebounds. Don't you agree with Barkley?

I mean I totally remember you always saying that all the time. Your other 45 posts have been nothing but defense (spelled defence, which is incorrect)

Defense is american, defence is british.

Right. Defence - it's essence of basketball. If you want to be a winner, you have say this as mantra all day long. Never enough. Never tired. Boys are shooting. Mens are fighting. Mens wins. :))

Im fairly certain outscoring the opponent is the only way to win a championship.

Los Soles, posts like your last one are proving that you are on the best way to be next famously stupid... I'm sorry, but I can't say nothing else...

That's correct, that we have other look at basketball and Suns. It's normal, i'd say. That's why net board are - for people to communicate, change ideas.

But, it's really FAMOUSLY STUPID - calling an idiot a several times all star, a legend, a player who showed by the years what basketball is. And does not have a ring just ONLY beacause of MJ23, if you remember... A player who knows almost everything about basketball and pain needed to be someone in this game... Eh... Think twice, please, don't repeat what other say about people. Not everybody is smart...

Well this is nothing new. Chuck has never really been a fan of SSOL and trading for 2 defensive guys could be seen as a precursor to a change in philosophy. But I don't know why we can't keep up our offensive tempo while playing better defense like we did last season. Everyone says defense wins championships because it's proven, but it doesn't mean we *can't* win with offense.

Yeah defense wins...but offense sells tickets

People wouldn't pay to see a score of 80-78 grind it out game, they pay to see running up the floor 120-118 point contests...at least in this town anyway

Imagine defence, that gives a lot of: blocks, fights by box-outing, rebounds, quick passes, fastbreaks and dunks. That's all thanks to D. Raw fight will sell tickets. Remember Daly's Detroit in early 90's? Don't you think such a team, but much more athletic, with today's athletes, will sell stadium out? I think - yes. Best ofense comes from hard D. Best dunks are in fastbreak. Monster blocks comes from D. That's people pay for.

I wish man, but in this town people probably would rather see a below average-medicore "fun" team to watch than grind it out games (unless that team has a legit chance at the chip of course)

What is this fat idiot talking about? The last three games we've failed to score 100 points, and we've lost.

paulcoro
The Suns have lost consecutive games while holding opponents to fewer than 100 points for the first time since January 2005. 2 minutes ago via web

.....and our defense is much improved. Its our rebounding that continues to be a problem. What good is a defensive philosophy if we can't finish out those stops? All the freakin' defense in the world is worthless if we continue to give up second-chance points. I'm MUCH more concerned with, finally, getting a freakin' rebounder.

What good is not being able to put up points when we have the personnel to do so? You have to score. It's in our nature. We can hold people to under 100 all we freakin' want, but if we continue to not score over 100, we're not going to win. Simple as that.

I'm so, so, so, so, SO sick of hearing this BS idea about offense not winning championships. No ****, we've gone to three Western Finals in 5 years. A few things break our way and we're in the Finals at LEAST once. Hell, we even have more than 6, 7 players to play in 2006 against Dallas and I'd be willing to bet we'd have a ring.

Dumb. Really dumb. Our offense continues to be a major, major problem. Charles, go eat a **** doughnut

What is with all the love for Marcin Gortat? The guy is a backup center for christs sake!!!! He's only a starter on a **** team!

Potential? I don't see it. He's a 10/10 guy AT BEST. Lopez (despite his recent **** play) still has WAYYYYY more potential.

OK, guys. So, Suns will be another one team that wants to learn the true on his own ass. OK. And you people will always talk about "how close we were last season or 5 years ago"... No problem. But you will never know how it smells and tastes: the championship. Pity.

I like Suns since they lost finals to the Bulls. I'm not from Phoenix. Not even from US. I played low level bball, worked with pros, too. Watched live many great teams with great players. I tasted winning. Nothing is sweeter. Nothing. It's not so difficult to stop looking for gazzillions of shots and dumb running down the court, transform and taste a sour and pain going from tough defence. Feel it with your players. Scream with them. Wipe opponents out of the court. Aaaaargh. This is basketball. Offense? Yeah. When you catch the ball from opponents. No one shall pass. No one shall score. No one. That's the spirit of the game, not easy running and a lot of circus-like ****. No way. You can do tricks when it's 20-points game and 1 minute to go...

I saw from very, very close many champions. No one of them won by offense. If Suns want experience this on their own ass, OK. Let's do it. But there is other way: start doing like the mens do. Stand and fight. Whole team.

You say - Suns are not rebounding. True. Why? It's about team rebounding. Everybody has to box out. Everybody has to fight for position. Everybody must look for rebound. It's one and only way. There is no other. If anybody says - there is other way to rebound - i'll say: yes, maybe two times in the game.

Gortat: you say he's a backup center. Aha... For the Suns, he's a superstar. In this team made of well payed pussies, he and Grant Hill, a little bit Dudley and now Pietrus, they are the only men. Nash wants badly play better defence, but he can't. He don't know anything about D. Rest of the roster are like clowns. Sorry, but it's the true. You have a show, circus, not a basketball pro-team. You can ban me from this board, but reality will not change. Without team spirit and team defence, you will always be on the same place. Counting rings for Lakers, Celts, Heat, Bulls...

I wish Suns will change, i wish Suns starts winning... I wish...

The ability to score efficiently and score when needed in addition to getting defensive STOPS is a key to winning playoff games..

I think Charles is a bit naive by saying all you need is defense.... look at Charlotte Bobcats, most nights they only allow opponents to score 90, but they also struggle to score 90.

Then you look at Miami Heat, who can score 100-110 easily... but keeps their opponents around 90.... SO, when they DO MISS their shots.... and just manage to score 95-100.... they STILL win.

Spurs too...

Heck even the Jordan/Pippen Bulls days... that team can score 100 consistently... but to preserve energy and to make their personnel FIT the game and be successful... they focused on EFFICIENT offense and intense defense... meaning... they dont score 105+ much, but their offensive rating was among highest in the league and their defense too.

Its like scoring 90 points but with a tremendous offensive efficiency.... big difference with a team scoring 90 points due to shooting 35% field goal.

I can say only - offense is a second step. When we've got hard D, we need to find harmony in offense. But, in 90% of cases, it's much easier part of the game :) For sure, you have to make baskets. More then opponents. But they must be a natural outcome from defence. Anyway, defence first. Harmony defence - offense is next.
