GT: Spurs vs. Pacers

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu Jan 6, 2011 5:03 pm

When: 7:00 PM ET, January 7, 2011
Where: Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, IN

VS

Starting Lineups:

Spurs:
PG - Tony Parker
SG - Manu Ginobli
SF - Richard Jefferson
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Dejuan Blair

Pacers:
PG - Darren Collison
SG - Brandon Rush
SF - Danny Granger
PF -Josh McRoberts
C - Roy Hibbert

We're currently on our first losing streak of the season and hopefully we can break that streak against the Pacers on friday. We can't sleep on this Pacers team either, they're a pretty talented team with alot of fire power.

We're going to have to stop Granger and its going to take a team effort to stop him. Roy Hibbert has struggling lately and we can't let him get going. If we're going to win this one we need to play better defense, the last two games have been disasters on the defensive end.

Go Spurs!!

Hoping we throttle them to get our confidence back. Can't wait for Anderson to get back from injury. We could use his young legs backing up RJ.

I have no doubt we win this game. What will be interesting is if we show up a different defensive team. Let's just say if we let Indiana score 100+, i'm about to give up hope on our defense. Honestly ofcourse we hope that we become a better defensive team and one who ranks at one of the top in the league, but the personnel really isn't there.

I think it takes more than just a great defensive system to be a great defensive team. There are all kinds of defensive teams. A physical defensive team usually boasts physical players. Let's throw that idea out of the window. It would help a lot if we're one of the longest teams around, but we don't have much length on our team. So let's throw that out of the window also. We're not big either. We're not the quickest. We lack shotblocking to actually maximize our defensive system. And most importantly, we lack a great perimeter defender (the Bowen type).

So really, what is our hope of becoming a great defensive team? I personally don't see it with the personnel that we have. We have all the tools to be a decent one, but nothing close to be a great one. Isn't that exactly what this team is right now?

The one team team this team compares to is the 1999 team. Richard Jefferson IMO is a lot like Sean Elliott in this system. I guess Parker isn't worse than Avery. Manu isn't worse than Elie. RJ isn't worse than Sean. But this isn't the 99 Duncan. and Blair is nothing close to David Robinson.

I'm starting to feel like we're asking for too much out of this team when we ask them to play defense like our previous championship teams. Before, we were in the middle of the pack on offense and one of the top on Defense. When we replaced defense (Bowen) with offense (RJ), shouldn't this be a realistic result? To be one of the top on offense and middle of the pack on defense? Feels like it should've made sense a long long time ago.

Yeah we've slipped defensivley after great showings against OKC and to a lesser extent, the Lakers. I'd like to see more of that vs the Pacers.

We're never going to defend like those old teams. We were spoiled in that sense. On the other hand our offense has never been this dynamic.

http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/01/07/parker-ill-skips-shootaround/

INDIANAPOLIS — Spurs point guard skipped shootaround Friday morning in preparation, staying behind at the team hotel feeling under the weather.

Parker has not been ruled out for tonight’s game against the Pacers, and team officials are hopeful after a full day’s rest he might be able to play.

Team officials weren’t sure what Parker has exactly, but he has been exhibiting some of the same cold-like symptoms coach Gregg Popovich had earlier in this road trip.

Sounds like TP might not play tonight.

Hill and Blair are the only guys that have showed up for this game. We should not be losing this one.

And as I say that Manu turns it on and scores like 10 straight points.

Duncan definitely not going to have a 20-20 game tonight. :uhoh:

How we won this, I have no clue. This game shouldn't of been this close and that Duncan tech almost killed us at the end but we managed to pull this one out.

Indy's got a pretty good team. We had no business winning this one, we looked flat for most of the game.
