"As I have reported before, the Nets will not do any 'Melo deal unless they are assured that he will sign the extension," wrote Sheridan. "And Melo is sticking to his guns that he will not sign an extension with any team, if traded, unless that team is the Knicks. That has been the case for more than a month, and it remains the case as of this very moment."

I don't know, I think Amar'e knows this isn't really true. The New York has a good team going, no doubt, but this team could never develop into a true contender without the addition of another superstar. I'm not necessarily saying that has to be Melo, but even if these players develop to their full potential, it isn't a Finals team.

Got a feeling this is at least part psychology to his teammates, to keep them motivated and confident in their own roles.

What do you expect him to say. Not sure what context this quote was taken from but hes not going to say the team needs major work. He knows in his heart that we are not a title contender even if this team has more time to grow. Im sure Amare didnt expect to have the record they have, and this comment is a complement to his teammates. He knows Melo would take them to the next level.

Why is everyone still saying backup PG? If we would play Roger Mason Jr, and give him some confidence he is a nice complement to Toney Douglas. Center wise I would like to see Anthony Randolph start playing at the center in rotations. He looked VERY raw last night in the PHX game.

Trading Eddy Curry for another asset if Melo is a no go, or a Net what does every think for plan B?

Right, and what I'm saying is that he should also take the Knicks off the list - and say he will not be signing anywhere. Play out your season like a man, give your all to whoever you get traded to, and then do you want next summer.

Another sign of a leader. He could have said other stuff like "I dont think about that", "its not my job to think about that" or "I only worry about the people we have here". He went out of his way to say that they dont need much and in doing that, he gave his teammates a vote of confidence. He believes in them and makes them feel better. Same with Donnie and Chandler. It will only motivate these guys to play even harder for their captain and for this organization...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

One source said the Nets are equally determined to keep Anthony away from the Knicks. They already are a distant second to the Knicks in the standings and attention, and seeing Anthony across the river, where he prefers to be, would be crushing.

If we trade too much for Melo, we will be no better than we are right now. Anything more than Curry and Gallo/Chandler and a low prospect bench player will not improve this team.

Adrian needs to shut his Wojina mouth. The new labor agreement is not going to cost Melo "tens of millions" but that's what Wojina wants to sell Melo on. I wonder why.

Or we can give Anthony credit for being a mature, thinking human being with his eyes open who can recognize the factors and make a decision about this future for himself.

If a little extra chump change leads Melo' to sign with Jersey, then whatever. Let him enjoy playing the next two years in Jersey on a poor man's version of the Nuggets. If he wants a shot at an epic rivalry of the Heat on what could be a championship-level Knicks team, he'll hold out. I mean, it may not be all about the money. Wasn't that what the 2010 offseason about? Wade, Lebron, and Bosh willing to sacrifice a few dollars to have a shot at greatness?

Oh yeah, and Wojina's idiotic assumption that the new CBA could cost Melo' "tens of millions" is way off base. Owners want to scale back not just new contracts, but existing ones as well, so the new CBA could cost him regardless of the deal he signs. Signing somewhere now wouldn't necessarily protect his money.

lol, are you serious?

On another note: I've never rooted harder for a trade than this proposed Jersey/Detroit/Denver thing. Melo stuck on an aging mediocre team in a meaningless franchise, the Knicks moving forward with our core - it doesn't get better. Make it happen Mutant Russian Marc Cuban!

Maybe Amar'e doesn't want to share the spotlight with Melo, as he was willing to do (and wanted to do) just recently?

Facing at least 30 media members at shootaround, Stoudemire said leading the Knicks' renaissance has made him feel "like a rock star."

"It's unreal," Stoudemire said. "New York City right now, it feels like being a rock star. It really does. It's unbelievable now. Fans are so appreciative. It's still early, still room to improve. But so far it's been out of control."

We don't agree on much but to a large extent, I see your POV on this. I still would like to see Melo land with the Knicks, but if he takes the easy way out and goes for the cash and a fake team in NJ, well that would be satisfying too and it would be a true test of his character, which he failed. As far as I'm concerned, we win either way.

One caveat though: People thought Amar'e was selfish and not a winner before he landed in NY too. He's changed that perception by caring about winning deeply and leading the team, being a dominant force. So if Melo PASSES the test and sticks to his guns about the Knicks, he can do what Amar'e has done and change the perception of him as a non-leader or someone who is just interested in the cash.

Even you can concede -- regardless of what his motivations or influence may be -- that Adrian Wojina is a ridiculously biased "reporter" who is virtually indistinguishable from a Nets sales representative.

It's just sports media ... so whatev ... but he's so biased against the Knicks and, more so, shameless about openly carrying the Nets' water. It's an embarrassment. He's disgracefully unprofessional.

If Melo was down for the Nets it would have happened already. 6 months of talking about the Nets obviously they are trying to make Melo blink. The thing that is scary is if the Net do trade for him and he bolts he will set their franchise back several more years.

Although we do need a second superstar, the performance and growth of this team, is making it a lot easier to not worry about the Melo sweepstakes. As far as I am concerned, we get him, great, we don't get him, I am over it already.
