i just dont think cleveland should do it. oden's chances of coming back to be at least a servicable player is slim to none. theyd be better looking for a package of picks or young -plyaers for andy

I don't think Oden has much, if any, value left at this point. Certainly not enough to land one of the better defensive centers in the L.

Cavs need some type of incentive to take on a player who will never play a full, maybe never a half, of a season

a bad deal for the Cavs. Oden has minimal value right now.

If Portland could get Varejao for the permanently broken Oden, I would call it a big win for Portland, it might even fall into the fancy category of trades.

Isn't Oden a free agent this offseason? Why would the Cavs not just wait and try to sign him then?

RFA, POR can match unless they do something weird with the new CBA

CAVs pass... The CAVs would not trade for him for Varejao. To retain Oden's RFA rights will take tendering him somewhere in the neighborhood of 8.8 million--- NOT with his track record of barely playing.

An interesting proposition for it's potentially a home run if Greg ever comes close
to the guy most teams wanted in the 2007 draft for a guy solid player in Varajeo
but certainly not an elite player. I would wonder from Portland's end whether
Varajeo would be a fit with LaMarcus Aldridge as an eventual replacement for
Marcus Camby, who's solid high post play, rebounding and defense is a great
fit for Portland.

I don't really think Oden has much trade value. Our best bet is to keep him, try to re-sign him to a reasonable contract, and hope he stays healthy. When a guy only plays 82 games in 4 seasons, it labels him as a huge injury risk and kills his trade value other than as an expiring. That said, I have this crazy feeling that he's going to get more contract offers this summer than any of us are expecting...we may be underestimating how much teams are willing to spend on centers. See DeSagana Diop, Erick Dampier, Adonal Foyle, Brendan Haywood, Eddy Curry etc.

I have a feeling Oden re-signs in Portland for a cheap price with a player opt out somewhere down the line, and a team option in the 2nd year. Maybe even non-guaranteed the first year. He owes them that much. If some team drops a semi healthy sized deal and he bolts he's an a-hole. Now if Portland doesn't want him that's another story.

This is interesting-a gamble by the Cavs for sure. Does Port have their pick this year? If so, put it it. AV would fit nicely in their and they don't really need the pick

Uh huh. If Portland does not tender the offer,Oden is not restricted.

Varejao is out for the season now because of this thread. You can't even talk about big men going to Portland without them getting hurt.

Damn, did not realize the curse was that strong! The most eligible Center just got taken off the market. Maybe this increases Cabmy's trade value a decent bit?

Now this is a fair trade.
