DET / NJN / DEN - The 17?

Post#1 » by Trader_Joe » Sat Jan 8, 2011 7:58 pm

I used all the pieces Kerber mentions who references 17 players being moved:

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/nets/net ... H7hWvrCeDN

For starters, the Nets would get Anthony and Chauncey Billups from Denver and Rip Hamilton, who has two years worth $25 million left on his contract, from the Pistons, along with Terrico White. And there are other pieces involved. A first-round draft pick from the Pistons to the Nets is not seen as a hold-up in the deal. Want a hold-up? Try working 17 guys into a trade.

Where all the Nets wind up is still not clear, The Nets would sent Derrick Favors, at least two first-round picks, and Devin Harris to the Nuggets. Troy Murphy and Johan Petro would head to the Pistons. Other players, such as Quinton Ross, Stephen Graham — perhaps Anthony Morrow — also would be headed out.

Denver trades:
Melo, Billups, Balkman, Sh.Williams, Ely
for
Favors, Harris, Morrow, Ross, Graham, Wilcox '12 GS #1, '11 NJ #1, $10m TPE, $3m Cash

Harris / Lawson / Carter
Afflalo / Morrow / Ross
JR Smith / Graham / Forbes
Harrington / Favors / K.Martin
Nene / Anderson / Wilcox

Detroit trades:
Hamilton, Wilcox, T.White, Summers, #2
for
Murphy, Petro, Balkman, Uzoh, $3m Cash NJ

Stuckey / Bynum / Uzoh
Gordon / T-Mac
Prince / Daye / Balkman
CV / Murphy / Maxiell / Jerebko
B.Wallace / Monroe / Petro

NJ trades:
Favors, Harris, Morrow, Murphy, Graham, Ross, Uzoh, Petro
'11 NJ #1, '12 GS #1, $6m Cash
for
Melo, Billups, Hamilton, White, Williams, Ely, Summers, DET #2

Billups / Farmar / T.White
Hamilton / Vujacic
Melo / D.James / Summers
Humphries / Outlaw
Lopez / Sh.Williams / Ely

I like it for Detroit

Balkman & Petro are dead weight but it gets them out of Rip w/out sacrificing anything of value

It would be cray if this deal went through, its huge.

Not bad for all sides.

Detroit would take it.
For the first time in my life I realized that I was truly happy.......then I remembered I was drunk.

Seems far too rich for Detroit, but who knows, maybe Denver and NJ are getting desperate to get a deal done.

Also I think NJ can only trade 3 million per transaction. If this is just one trade(I understand it can be multiple trades disguised as 1) then they won't be able to shell out 6 million. If this is a couple or more trades, then that can happen.

Someone on here provided a link some time ago saying the most a team could receive was $3 in a trade, not that a team could only send out $3m, but I could be wrong.

And yes, I think this a good deal for Detroit and wanted to change it to a protected #1, but it's not a deal breaker acc. to reports, and I would just be thankful they facilitated the deal.

No, you are correct. There is no limit to how much a team can send OUT via trade, but teams can only accept up to $3mil.

As for this deal, I think you know that I am opposed to any Melo deal that does not move TrOut. But it seems like an accurate representation of how this deal could go down.

I know.
I'm not overly excited about the deal, but I think this is what it could look like, and I cold live with it.

Personally, because I don't care about the business side (and this is a big time business move), I would much rather not do a Melo deal (unless of course the chances of Paul coming next year were legitimate) because I feel it's short-sighted and business driven. Let the big guys (Orlando, Miami, Boston) run their course and wait until 3-4 years from now when the young guys have matured and the draft picks have come to fruition.

2013-2014 NJ Nets could be:

-Favors
-Lopez
-D.James
-Outlaw (2 years left)
-2011 NJ #1 (top 5)
-2012 NJ #1 (lotto)
-2013 NJ #1
-2012 GS #1
-2011 LAL #1
-2012 HOU #1
-Tons of Cap Space

"We want a superstar but we insist on also sending out our worst contract" isn't going to get a lot of traction.

There's so much smoke in the air over Melo that it's hard to tell who will settle for what any more. This trade has some interesting ideas, though.

Honestly? I would rather pay 12,5 million/year for Rip than pay 5 million for Petro and Balkman. Neither of them will see the court for any NBA team so meh, i would be disgruntled if something like that happen and would demand Joe D's head.

Addition by subtraction? Yeah i know but still 5 million of dead cap space is something i wouldn't pay to get rid of anyone.

It's beyond my how NJN handled Outlaw/Farmar/Petro those contracts when they could try to get a decent player with that raw capspace (Al Jefferson for example).

Not to worry, it seems the Detroit talks are dead and they are moving on to Minny per Denver's request.

But again, I find it so fitting that as usual your opinion is far from the reasonable Detroit fans.

Kind of like when you told me Detroit was "head and shoulders a better team than NJ" yet roughly halfway through the season Detroit only has 1 more win than NJ despite the facts:

-NJ's starting wings (Morrow and James) have been injured for some time
-Murphy has been injured and disappointing
-The team has had to contend with distracting trade rumors even before the season started
-The team is very young and has experienced a massive turnover

Anyway, no point discussing this as both teams suck, but my point is I really don't trust your point of view.

Yeah that report makes no sense.
I trust Woj and Al.Ianzzone more when it comes to Nets dealings and they have broke most trades for NJ.

Is there any point?

Detroit one more win than NJ 35 or so game in.

You're so right!

Lest we forget:
-NJ's starting wings (Morrow and James) have been injured for some time
-Murphy has been injured and disappointing
-The team has had to contend with distracting trade rumors even before the season started
-The team is very young and has experienced a massive turnover
-NJ has 5 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts to keep or improve in trade

What is Detroit's excuse?
Oh yeah I forget, it all comes down to the coach, who is still part of the team.
If Detroit has Avery Johnson and NJ has Kuester then.... oh wait, they don't.
