Way I see it, two things are true here:

1. Nets' attempt is desperate.

2. Melo may be so concerned about getting his extension that he goes to a poor, also-ran team. In other words, he might be as desperate as them. Match made in heaven, possibly.

But if Melo is NOT as desperate as the Nets, then he'll be a Knick. It really is as simple as that.

No reason to fret about it ... it's a character test and we'll get our answer soon. I would not have any regrets about losing a guy who is desperate enough to go to the Nets. Kind of a problem that solves itself, right?

And this just in. Melo isn't being puppet-ed by his agents. that is a fact.

well amare left a western conference finalist for an unknown team full of young players for money. but truthfully i don't believe the money will be much different if he waits to come here. if they reduce salaries it will be across the board. if he goes to the nets he'll regret it in no time.

Completely agree. If he comes here, then that's the guy we wanted. If not, we didn't want a guy more concerned with the extension and kick his ass four times a year. Enjoy newark.

Fair point about Amar'e. But he was going to a marquee franchise with a coach he was successful with. And there was additional cap space to add a guy like Felton.

Going to the Nets with Billups and Hamilton and no picks and very limited cap flexibility (actually none I believe) is a clear sellout if he pulls the trigger.

it's definitely stupid. it's someone who's not aware of his options. which is why i always said he wouldn't go there.

There's no way that Melo is going to be forced to make $12M, $13M a year when a guy like Gay or Roy or the other Maxes, even lebron and Wade, are up at $18M. At the very least, Melo will be Grandfathered in. I feel very confident of that actually.

So in reality, Melo is not leaving any or any substantial money on the table. He'll get 105% of the final year of his contract for next season, at a minimum. I guarantee it.

Who knows if his greedy or stupid agents will tell him that. They don't care where he plays, so they just want their cash ASAP.

It means 'Melo himself is behind his stance. He isn't be influenced or talked into anything by his agent or management team.

I understood that, I mean what's his stand? Does that mean that he is willing to go to the Nets if they make the team slightly better?

What about the Knicks? Aside from not having the pieces, there's something else now that will hurt their chances. This is Amar'e Stoudemire's team and no one likes that more than Stoudemire.

Out in Phoenix, before he laid waste to the Suns on Friday night, Stoudemire said the Knicks don't need a major piece.

"We don't really need much," he said.

Sounds like he's definitely not in favor adding a player whom he'd have to suddenly compete with for touches and shots.

Slightly? Doubt it. It would have to be a significant change, which the Nets can't do since they would be trading all their assets for Melo. Melo wants to be in a situation where perhaps is better than Denver, while staying close his family. I simply can't see how RIP, Billups, and Melo can contend, and Melo isn't dumb he understands that.

I don't get why Hamilton is even a factor. Afflalo is better than Hamilton so what the point? Fields is also better than Hamilton. This isn't 2004.

This is something I have had in the back of my mind honestly. Always wrote it off because of their friendship. But its something I have thought about.
