I can't Believe Walton Still has 2 Years Left

Post#1 » by Patterns » Tue Jan 4, 2011 11:34 am

Wasn't Luke's contract only 5 years? I know we gave him an extension and all but my goodness.

It seemed like it was 2006 when we started complaining how long Luke's contract is and we still have 2 more years to go! It's been 5 years since 2006!

Can someone explain to me how Walton is holding us hostage for so long? (explain his contract)

wasnt it a 30 million, six year extension? it was ok on its average per annum cost, but about 3 years too long.

back then, luke was balling, he was expected to be our starting SF for years to come and were for a couple of years before we traded for ariza, and even then, he didn't go to the bench until after the 2nd half of the season.

it was also generally well accepted that luke's influence was an overall positive one despite lack of stats and he was a genuine glue guy that ran the triangle as well as any other player without athleticism and shooting touch could run the triangle. and generally, his unselfish play probably made him tons of friends in the locker room as well

Yeah Luke is/was the triangle master on the court back then. He set the table pretty well for mostly everyone on the team. Guys with that much B ball IQ are a rare find.

^Crazy new sig man

It's a shame Luke hasn't been able to stay healthy. I don't know why none of the team doctors questioned his health back then knowing about his father's health issues.

It is also hard to believe Walton has been in the L 7 years.

I SEE Luke as a Lakers Assistant when Phil is gone.

They seem even longer when he has been struggling with injuries and inconsistency for the last three seasons.

Personally, I would have rather seen Walton shipped out than Sasha. That said, I can't see any takers for Bill's son.

Yeah man, when he signed his contract he was safer than the best player in the world. He had more pull than Kobe. "Yo #8, carry my bags kid!"

Good on the Triangle Offense. Above-average Bball IQ. Phil's student.

Walton could be gone this summer depending what happens in the CBA negotiations one the owners priorities are to make it easier for teams to get out of bad contracts such as Waltons.

Dream on. Players's contracts are heavily protected in the NBA. If you can't void contracts from guys like Eddy Curry or Gilbert Arenas you are not going to void Walton's. At best we can get some tax relief like the Allan Houston rule, there is absolutely no way the Lakers can remove their obligation to pay Walton for the next 2 years.

Ur talking about the NBA in the current CBA i was talking about a new CBA where the rules about getting out of bad contracts maybe very different.

And I am telling you, the new CBA will not have a get out of jail card for teams who overpay. The union has no reason to agree. The league might be willing to do something like cover expenses for certain contracts or reduce the penalty a contract has on the salary cap, but teams will never obtain the right to get out of a contract scot free.

With Barnes out 5 plus weeks. When do we start reading the trade ideas. You know they are coming and I bet Ron's name will be in them.

I hope the new CBA gives teams more ways to get out of contracts if the player misses too many games due to injury. Honestly this has been Lukes main problem.
