If we are getting involved, I would like to see Billups come this way rather than Murphy, and I also like the Favors/Johnson swap. Billups would solve so many of our end of game problems and teach our guys how to win down the stretch in the NBA. I'm not positive this deal is valid, but maybe something like this would be good for all:

NJN Out: Murphy, Harris, Favors, NJN #1, GS #1
NJN In: Anthony, Andersen, Harrington

Den Out: Anthony, Billups, Andersen, Harrington
Den In: Murphy, Harris, Wes Johnson, NJN #1, GS #1, Mem #1, Utah #1, choice of any one other player from the MN roster not named Love, Beasley, Darko, or Webster, option to swap #1 picks with MN in 2011 (top 3 protected) - (or 2012 if MN 2011 pick goes to LAC)

Minn Out: Wes Johnson, Mem #1, Utah #1, one other player from roster not named Love, Beasley, Darko, or Webster (in order to keep MN under cap), pick swap with Denver
Minn In: Favors, Billups

agree, and i just read an article saying that he would seek a buyout with any team if he is traded, he wants to finish his career in denver, he's guaranteed only 3 million or so next season, he wouldn't want to play here.

Correct. He would just be dead salary here

I disagree. We desperately need someone on the court that knows how to win games down the stretch, and that can teach Beasley, Love, and Darko how to do it. Billups may be a shell of his former self, but he was still good enough to beat out Rondo on the WC team, and lead the Nuggets to a victory over our Wolves last week with Anthony, Nene, Kenyon Martin all out, and he is very professional. We could even make a verbal agreement with him that if he can teach Beasley, Love, and Darko how to close out games this year that we'll either buy him out or trade him to one of five teams of his choice in the off-season - even though it would be nice to have him here to work with Rubio.

I think you missed the point on that one. Billups has made it clear in the last few days that if he leaves Denver he's going to demand a buyout. So he won't be doing what you want him to because I doubt he even leaves Denver.

NJN's initial Melo deal sent out Devin Harris instead of Troy Murphy, so it's probably possible. That was the one that included Utah and the Bobcats, and was being discussed way back in late September. The problem NJN was facing in any deal sending out Harris was that they didn't have a PG to replace him. They tried to bring in CHA in a complicated trade to remedy that situation, and the deal got pretty far along. In the end though, DEN declined because it would raise their already lux-doubled payroll.

You might want to look at the idea of taking in Harris and some other piece, perhaps JR Smith is the right size, and sending NJN Ridnour. Luke is competant and a vet, and he wouldn't be a bad back-up if Melo could talk Chris Paul (and also David Stern) into demanding a trade to join him in NJN. MIN couldn't get in on a deal like this at the time, because it was far before the Dec 15th restriction on trading newly acquired free agents.

Send them Flynn. Carmelo + Flynn + Lopez = hilarious defense.

Emphasis mine... that's my favorite typo in some time. Is that the kind of exception Marcellus Wallace promised to the Zed?

On topic, I get the benefit of turning cap space this year into 1st rounders down the road... but it's so disappointing as a fan to see all these proposed deals with no PLAYERS coming back to the Wolves. Especially this year, when the Wolves have up come up short again and again in close games. It's got to be tempting for someone in Kahn's position to overpay for a Devin Harris or an Andre Iguodala in an attempt to stop the awful losses. I'm not saying that the right approach, just that as a fan I'd like to see the team get better this year.

I liked it, too. I don't think anyone got my Brevin Knight reference, though.

Not to split hairs, but the Billups article made it clear he had no intention of playing for the Nets. The Realgm article also said if he was traded he wanted to be released so he could decide who he will play for. He's kind of skating on the fence in the article. If Denver can't afford to continue paying $13 mil x 2 = $26 mil to have him play on a now mediocre team, he honestly doesn't have much of a say in the issue. Sure in a perfect world, he continues to make his $13 mil while playing in his hometown, but that isn't realistic. He is as professional on the court as they come, and he will play for whoever trades for him. I believe we are a .500 team with Billups on the roster, and I want to see it happen.

Brevin Knight looks like Marcellus Wallace? My problem with comparing Knight to Beaubois is that Knight actually played in the league. Beaubois played in 56 games last year, none so far this year, averaged less than 8 points per game... but everyone talks about him like he's the 2nd coming of Allen Iverson or something.

I don't get it. The guy's just not my cup of meat, I guess.

I'd be fine with Flynn going out and either Harris or Billups coming in, assuming as a part of some other arrangements. That said, I don't mind hanging on to Flynn either. I can see him maturing into an NBA point guard worth his salt. It just gets tough watching everybody on the roster take their training wheels off at the same time.

One guy I'll be watching is Kirilenko from the Jazz. They are over the cap and will probably look to move him at the deadline.

He's also a major contributor on a 1st place team. They've already paid most of his contract and I can't imagine he has alot trade value. I doubt they dump him.

If they pick up an injury, I'm sure you are right. Micro-market UTA has one of the most financially-aware teams in the league, and even in last year's play-off race they moved talent to save money. Kirilenko is a part of them, but he's the one big piece that needs to be broken up to get under the lux.

With that said, I think it only happens if there is an injury. UTA made a conscious choice to maintain competitiveness when they traded for Al Jefferson, knowing full well it put them well into the lux. They are definitely a team to keep an eye on.

Kirilenko is too important to that team for them to let him go. Unless Williams has a season ending knee injury, AK47 stays.
