Personally I think it's a bit crazy they are in the hunt. They are in a good position with all those draft picks. I don't see them being in a good spot to add a superstar max player though. Not yet anyway.

Where do you think all these rumors are coming from? Nets have an interest in not seeing the Knicks get him but Prok is no dope. He's a Russian Billionaire i'm assuming is mob connected and not one for foolishness. He's a promoter but not one for idiocy and IMO these rumors are idiocy. Not part of his M.O. I would think. I have to think they are coming from Denver. Rookie GM, shooting spitballs everywhere.

If any of these rumors has a shred of truth, talk about horribly lame attempts to land Melo. Billups wanting a buy out automatically kills this deal, along with the mess of scuttling the Nets nucleus for what's left of Larry Brown's Piston team. I'm beside myself on this deal.

No way Melo gives up on this ****.

Lopez had 5 points against a Bogut-less Bucks team at home??
Am I seeing this correctly? This is the cornerstone?
These guys don't understand my borough if that's the pivot they plan on trotting out in the County of Kings in a few years.
Wow. I don't wanna clown them because we know what it's like to have a sucky team but he's as bad on the glass as Eddy was in his "career year" for us. Maybe even worse.
And doesn't acquiring Chauncey and Rip ring notoriously like Jamision and Shaq being acquired in Cleveland to appease Lebron? If dude (Carmelo) chooses that cast of characters over playing in the Garden then hey, more power to you Melo.
New Jersey is in no way New York. I don't think out-of-towners get that. If he just wants out then go home for real, go play for the Wizards.

I haven't really chimed in much on the whole Melo fiasco... but exactly why would he agree to sign an extension and be traded to the N'yets? If he sticks to his guns, he knows he has the opportunity to be a part of something very special here in New York.
Really? Jared Jeffries. Seriously?

Not sure if this was posted..

Kobe tells Carmelo to go for happiness

http://www.newsday.com/sports/basketbal ... -1.2596300

Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire have a good relationship, but no NBA player is closer to Anthony than Kobe Bryant. The two have talked about Anthony's future and the decision that he'll have to make about signing an extension or testing free agency. At Lakers practice Saturday, Bryant said his advice to Anthony was simple: "Do what makes you happy."

Anthony has been extremely careful with what he says and does, mainly because he wants to avoid the firestorm of criticism and backlash that met LeBron James when he left Cleveland for Miami last summer. But Bryant said Carmelo shouldn't be concerned about pleasing everyone.

"LeBron did it, and obviously, the way he went about it -- a lot of people off," Bryant said. "But the core of the decision was that he wanted to do what made him happy. I think Carmelo should do the same thing."

Minimum talent/assets we can deal to get Melo

Post#1277 » by Knickplaya » Sun Jan 9, 2011 3:50 pm

Hello all, 20 + years as a die hard Knick fan, long-time REALGM visitor, first time user/post.

Look forward to discussing Knicks with you folks.

This whole Carmelo business is wild, but isn't it nice to be on the side that if we do not get him-- it isn't the end of the world. But we should get him. I think with Billups coming out and saying he would not want to play for NJ, and would seek a buy out (like mentoined by some of you guys) kills the deal. I don't see why in the world Melo would want to play for the Nets...

So if Billups did or does "kill" the deal, what is Denver's leverage now? Can they get a better offer than 1st rd pick (anthony randolph potential trade to get one), Toney Douglas, Eddy Curry's expiring deal, Kellena Azubuike (expiring), Timothy Mozgov (somewhat of a prospect, and good value for the $, helps match up salaries). As well as us taking on Al Harrington or JR Smith, or both of their contracts.

What do you guys think? I don't know how many teams would come up with a better offer than that, and take on Denver's contracts (to rent Melo)

1. I think the fact that Billups' agent came out with that, means there are legs to the rumor of Billups being traded to NJ.

2. It's Melo's decision, like it has always been. We don't have the best offer so it's up to him to force the Nuggets to trade him here. Otherwise, he is ending in up in NJ.

It really look like this is a P.R. battle at this point.

If Anthony has been as clear to Denver as some reports suggest he has about only signing an extension for NY, Denver wants Anthony to publicly make this clear.

Denver needs the cover, so they can go back and tell their fans, "We wanted him to stay and put pieces around him to win a championship, and when he made it clear he didn't want to do it, we did everything we could to work out a trade to in pursuit of the same goal. But Anthony only wanted one thing, and it limited what we could do".
