Taking back Harrington would be like being run over by the same car twice.

Talk about beating a dead horse. If Melo were to sign an extension with the Nets, he would have already been there. How amateurish of the Denver Nuggets FO to leak these dumb rumors every other day.

They're trying to get Donnie to panic. Don't they know that Donnie sleeps most of the day, and doesn't have time during his few waking hours to pay attention to implausible rumors....

Dono, I still like our chances, but the way Amare came out and supposedly said 'Don't want to blow up the roster' or 'we're playing well with what we have' etc, reminded me of the way he was talking before the James announcement when they all prob knew he wasn't coming here . . I think it's just Amare being confident in himself and his teammates, but he shouldn't fool himself, we still have a ways to go if we are serious about being contenders.

As for Melo to the nets, I do think it's something he'd consider if they can get a decent player or two to go with him. . I think he's still sticking to his NYK guns, but you gota think if he can get this $ and go to NJ with a few players it may be something he'd be interested in. . he hasn't really shown any signs of that yet, but you never know. .

I think the Knicks are sorta fed up with being left out and have allowed the current squad to grow on them - to an extent.. Donnies talk of Chandler the other day, Amare speaking about the roster - it seems like we've taken a "If you want to deal with us, this is what we're willing to give up" approach, as opposed to 'we'll do anything for melo' - which is good.. especially if we have reason to think Melo will wait it out to come here...

It'd be great if Donnie could pull off some sort of multi team deal that kills a bunch of birds with one stone, landing Melo and a big here, but that seems like the best case scenario.

These guys don't understand my borough if that's the pivot they plan on trotting out in the County of Kings in a few years.
Wow. I don't wanna clown them because we know what it's like to have a sucky team but he's as bad on the glass as Eddy was in his "career year" for us. Maybe even worse.
And doesn't acquiring Chauncey and Rip ring notoriously like Jamision and Shaq being acquired in Cleveland to appease Lebron? If dude (Carmelo) chooses that cast of characters over playing in the Garden then hey, more power to you Melo.
New Jersey is in no way New York. I don't think out-of-towners get that. If he just wants out then go home for real, go play for the Wizards.

At least the wizards would have a better core and younger to boot

The Wizards have Wall... and that's it. Don't tell me about Al Blatchington. Neither the Wiz nor the Nets are going to be any good in the next couple of years. With or without Melo.

What the hell happened to Lopez? He wasn't a great rebounder to begin with but damn, 6 rpg? In 4 games this month, he's averaging 3 rpg. 3. Landry Fields more then doubles that. Is he hurt or has his softness just multiplied?

He didn't actually say "don't blow up our roster." He said:

"Right now, in New York we have a solid team," Stoudemire said. "We don't really need much. We're playing well. We feel like the team we have can be very successful if we keep improving individually and as a team on the defensive end."

The journalist chose to make the case that this means he doesn't want Carmelo.

What would be wrong with taking Harrington? IMHO, Harrington was a good player for us. Granted he could be a better defender, he does make an effort. He is a heck of a fit offensivley for the D'Antoni offense. He can play a couple different positions, which always helps the way D'Antoni likes to coach with taking advantage of matchups, going small, going big, going three, etc.

It is 5 M a year, it's not the end of the world, if it gets Melo, then I think it's a no-brainer. Clearly Al liked being here, and wanted to stay here.

Watch games not boxscores. He's illuminates everything what's bad about D'Antoni-Ball.

I doubt that Amar'e has changed his mind about wanting Melo here. That fool Mitch Lawrence (another media member with a faulty brain) is taking a small thing and running with it.

Billups agent coming out and saying no to NJ may mean there is truth to it, I think there is, but he's also just responding to the flood of stories on this.

I also agree that taking back Al Harrington is a no-no. He is a disaster and represents all that was wrong with the Knicks. He or Jeffries ... it would just be very depressing to see them back here. Not quite as bad as Isiah but in that ballpark. Like a nightmare that seems over but then re-starts. No thanks.

Don't think anyone is advocating talking back Harrington in a separate deal, but if that's what it takes (including Azubuike, maybe giving back a little less i return), I think it's a non-brainer.

Impossible. Aside from us, every team in the league has been involved in this deal.

FieldsMedal wrote:It really look like this is a P.R. battle at this point.

If Anthony has been as clear to Denver as some reports suggest he has about only signing an extension for NY, Denver wants Anthony to publicly make this clear.

Denver needs the cover, so they can go back and tell their fans, "We wanted him to stay and put pieces around him to win a championship, and when he made it clear he didn't want to do it, we did everything we could to work out a trade to in pursuit of the same goal. But Anthony only wanted one thing, and it limited what we could do".

Thank you, Look at the end of the day, Melo's not going to have this opportunity many more times, and maybe never again if a terrible injury comes along. He knows he has to get this right. So I appreciate you breaking it down to the real facts. We can go back and forth all year long, but in the end, this absolutely is about P.R. No deal, certainly as large as this one, is ever negotiated via the media.
