The only ones that matter are the cleveland fans TBH. I bet that had he said "im taking my talents to New York/ Chicago/ New Jersey" a different tune would have been sung.

As bad a GM is King is, I don't think he's dumb enough to settle for a rented Melo. I can't believe the hate in this thread, even a 12 year old would comprehend better...

J Smitty wrote:The only quotes directly out of Melo's mouth about this situation have been "the extension is my top priority" and "im going to sign the extension wherever I go." So no, it's not according to me...it's according to Melo. And if we're going to talk about things Melo himself has actually said, that's all there is. He hasn't said anything about the Knicks, though no one doubts that either.

He wants his money, he just wants it somewhere else. **** for him, as he chose not to sign the shorter extension like Lebron/Wade/Bosh did, he doesn't get to pick that place at the moment. Now to get a contract under the current CBA, he'll have to get it wherever the **** the Nuggets send him. If he doesn't, he can go where he wants as a free agent and lose money, which he also doesn't want to do. So either way, he really screwed himself.

Well to be honest, he wants to sign an extension because well, he deserves it. He just doesn't want to put himself in a position where he's bound to a team for years to come without a serious chance at winning a championship. He's one of the best players at his position and he wants to be rewarded for his hard work. And you're right, he has never mentioned the Knicks but the whole reason why there has been talk about it is simply the media driving it.

If he does end up as a free agent, the only one that's screwed is Denver - not him. Sure Melo might not get the money he originally gets but he will be offered a contract and now has the say so on where he wants to play. He will be completely unbound to any terms that Denver has and now that franchise has to find ways to rebuild. Even if he loses millions, that doesn't pale in comparison to the impact that Denver will feel if he chooses another team.

Look, I am not saying he will come to the Knicks in FA but frankly if Denver doesn't make a move soon, they will a bad position where they get little to nothing in return and loses their franchise player at that. If Carmelo chooses the Knicks or any team, they will improve while Denver is stuck with decisions to make.

If Melo makes it to free agency he cannot screw the Nuggets more then if they were to trade him to New York today, but he screws himself, and the Knicks still do not have the cap space lined up to even get close to a max offer for him, so he still has to go through the Nuggets to get to the knicks.

Every projection I have seen, and all the numbers I have looked at have the Knicks with $8 million or so in cap space if the cap were to stay the same, to get to the 18 or so that they would need it is going to take some work. They have to renounce Chandler, have Turiaf opt out, trade their 1st for a future pick, and still lose one of Randolph, Galinari, or Mozgov. Which is more then Knicks fans already think they should give up for Melo.

Given Walshs recent comments about resigning Chandler, they would have to lose all 3 of Galinari, Mozgov, and Randolph, plus Turiaf and the pick, and hope that the owners do not cut the cap as most reports indicate is something the owners are insisting on and will force the lockout to make happen.

In the end the only way the Knicks get Melo is to have him accept a huge paycut, and still dump more assets then the Knicks fans think the Nuggets should get now.

Again, you're assuming that I think Carmelo coming to the Knicks is definite. Don't look at my avatar and signature and think that. ;)

My team right now is playing good and to disrupt it by trading almost half our rotation, I don't see the point. If the cost to get him is too high, then we should move on to other guys who can address our bigger needs (i.e., decent big man and backup PG).

If the Knicks miss out on Carmelo, I trust that it's for a good reason according to the management. He would be great to have on my team but he isn't the missing piece to winning a title.

I hope Billups doesn't end up playing in NJ. If he is traded there, he should negociate his buyout to come to a contender (the Lakers are desperately looking for a quality PG) because there is only fuel for one or maybe two seasons in Billups' tank.

NJ getting indications Melo sit-down with Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z may not even be necessary to convince Melo to sign w/NJ.

Detroit has leverage here, because Melo's agent is pushing Rip inclusion in bigger deal to NJ. Detroit may end up with a 1st out of deal.

Lol if that happens. Detroit getting a 1st, so they can save themselves 17 million? Gotta love NJ's desperation.

One source said "tonight or tomorrow." Some things still need to be worked out, but it's picking up steam.

I'd bet tonight is the last time you see Melo in a Nugget uniform.

Jersey now seems desperate enough to sweeten any deal and do whatever it takes.
