In other words, they just don't want to trade him to the Knicks on principle.
i read that comment the same way
At no point during this process has the claim that the Knicks don't have the assets to make a trade - whether it be directly with Denver or in a 3-way - made any sense at all, especially when compared with what Denver apparently does view as a value (Favors + picks).
I still don't think this is happening. When a trade doesn't make sense for ANY of the parties involved, something has to give. NJ gets a superstar and loses its future picks and flexibility while having a poor supporting cast. Denver gets a so-so prospect in Favors and gives the Nets just enough in the way of serviceable vets to ensure the picks they get back aren't top 5. And most importantly, Carmelo goes to a team that is 10-26, is playing in a cruddy city next year, doesn't get to play with a second star such as his friend Amar'e, and actually gets a downgrade in terms of the talent around him. I simply don't believe it. But hey, I've been wrong before.
