Okay, so what are the chances the Bruins can be wayyyyy better than people expect? They seem to have some very good players. Bergeron, Savard, Kessel, Murray, Chara. That's five good players, right? And both goalies are pretty good, right? If, say, Bergeron and Kessel make a big leap this season...could they maybe contend?
0:01.8 A. Walker makes 3-pt shot from 28 ft (assist by E. Williams) +3 109-108

anyone can contend once you make the playoffs take the Oilers for example. The problem that I see with this team is its horrible defensively and dont have a legit #1 goalie. Im not sold on Fernandez, he played on a team in Minnesota that majorrly focuses's on playing defence and they also still have a semi trap going, and this usually makes goalies look better then they really are.

chances are good. mostly because they had the talent to be good last year, but decided to be one of the worst teams in any sport ever at producing anywhere close to expectations.
what scares me is why did every one of the bruins good players (save savard- very good year, and kessel- good year despite the cancer) perform like JV versions of themselves all year? why did they have no heart or desire? when they got pushed around they curled up in a fetal position.
my low expectations are not because they dont have good players, but because of the massive underachieving that went on last year. they set a new standard on underachieving, and overachieved in that one department.
as my fellow posters here probably know, i love milan lucic and think the intangibles brought by lucic and thornton (and some reich now and then) will make a big difference

This is a totally different team then last year, and I really like it.
Like TCT mentioned, last year they were underacheivers. They had no grit. This year I am seeing something else.
Milan lucic is nasty. We better not send him back to juinors. That would suck. Him and Shawn thornton are two key pieces to the bruins playing the way they are.
Screw Fernandez. Timmy is playing great!
Rumor has it, well for awhile now, that Danny Markov could sign on with us. That would be a good addition to D.
Hopefully they continue to play like this the whole season. Go Bruins!

No doubt Markov would be a very quality signing as hes one of the better shutdown defenders in the league. After seeing this team play defence against SJ and Tampa I can see them making the playoffs if they can continue to play that kind of stifflin D.

Lewis is a horrbile coach and Julien is much better and much better at teaching a team how to play a system oriented around defence.
hey id love for them to play well enough to put it all on lewis, but im sayin the players were responsible for the playing, lewis the strategy and motivation, and chiarelli the staff to do so...right?
so its easy to scapegoat one man, but however overmatched he was (and as a guy whose other team is the red wings, i never wanted him here or thought he could do the job) he wasnt wholly responsible.
look at the chargers, they blamed their failures on schottenheimer (who is mr choke) even though they had a great season, and they may have damaged themselves in doing so. not saying julien isnt better than lewis, i think he is, but its not so simple as to place lewis as the source of every problem with last year
