BREAKING NEWS

Sources are reporting that Denver has allowed Melo and the Nets to hold preliminary discussions regarding a trade to New Jersey. According to sources close to the meeting, Melo walked into the room and immediately asked to see the proposed contract extension. When handed the contract, Anthony placed it on the table, pulled down his trousers and proceeded to urinate on the document. According to sources Prokhorov came away from the meeting believing that the two were close to terms.

I don't have much hope, or care, anymore that this Nets deal will NOT get done, I think it will, but GMAFB about the Nets being "very confident" that Melo will sign. That means nothing.

Two things:

1. What else are they going to be publicly? Not confident?!?

2. It is interesting that they are not saying 'Melo has given his go-ahead.' That would be a lot different from the meaningless 'We're very confident.'

Is it a PR friendly way for Melo to be like ok i'll go but I don't know if Im going to sign an extension, I need to think about it, then the Nets void the deal, and the Nuggets get desperate and take a 1st rd pick, a couple expiring deals, and toney douglas for Melo and JR Smith?

I think your right on, Rose is trying to play ball to make his client look good, so rose will facilitate a deal but the contract extension is up to Melo.

He must truly hate Denver and truly believe he is going to lose a lot of money if he waits for FA. Because winning wise, the NJ situation is not good.

If I'm the Nets I don't do this trade. They've acquired several picks, have a good cap situation going forward, and are a relatively young team. Rather than acquire a potential malcontent that's going to leave at season's end anyway they'd be better off drafting guys or trading for someone that they're certain to have for more than a few weeks.

Yeah its a fair point... but how long do you live with being a doormat without doing anything? Besides, if that is your strategy, you don't give Travis Outlaw a huge contract.

Agree with the Outlaw thing. But one mistake doesn't warrant another, right? That was the Isiah Thomas philosophy ("Well, I already bleeped up with that contract so why not make this move too")

Gotta think longterm. When we made the T-Mac deal we did so after sources in Lebron's camp said we still had a shot at landing him. We didn't just allow the Rockets to take advantage of us on an unfounded hope that Lebron would come. NJ, however, is doing just the opposite. They're about to set themselves back for what could be Brook Lopez's prime all on the hope that Melo can be convinced to stay. If I'm the Nets GM I only make this move if I've spoken to Melo and I have a guarantee that he'll resign with the Nets. Anything else is just sheer stupidity.

Melo is not signing an extension with the Nets and his agent will make money REGARDLESS. Unless you believe there is going to be a lockout or a major decrease in NBA salaries...

The nets will not provide him with a winning situation. And all this CP3 talk...Who would the nets have to trade for CP3? Likely if Melo is a net he will be stuck in a horrible loosing situation.

I heard the Nets intend to use Melo's DNA from the piss to prove in court he actually endorsed the extension and it is now a legally binding agreement.

In the unlikely event that the Nets deal does fall apart ... again ... I think Donnie should immediately call the Nuggets and say "Listen, we are going to fax you our offer for Melo. Until now, we were holding back but we are eager for you to review our latest, final proposal for Melo. Please check your fax in a few minutes."

And then, like Ari in Entourage (can anybody find that video on YouTube?), send them a blank sheet of paper with just the following:

That's why the Nets acquired Travis Outlaw. CP3 trade-bait.

Big problem to not be able to trade for Melo is that it's going to really impede our ability to keep Chandler this summer. The Drama Continues!

And right before that, he said that this is not bad news for Knicks fans until Melo accepts.

Sounds like Berger may have some information here.
