League sources say Billups is only interested in leaving DEN if it means playing for a winner. Buyout a real possibility if he's sent to NJ.

They should pull Billups and Harris from the deal.

I simply cannot believe that a player of Carmelo Athony's talent has waited his whole career to spend the prime of his playing days in NJ with a team that is clearly rebuilding, but has gutted it's roster and traded it's picks. He has a choice, one of the very times in his life where he is free to choose his playing future, and he is choosing NewFrickenJersey.

Berger has been Melo's mouthpiece this entire time, looks like this whole saga is finally ending.

Put yourself in Carmelo's shoes:

He gets the extension.
He gets NY.
Becomes face of Brooklyn franchise.
LaLa gets her dream. (BFF is also dating player on team)
Doesn't have to remain in limbo in Denver and can finally move onto the next chapter in his life/career.
The Nets with Billups, Rip, Melo, Humphries, Lopez is a playoff team.
He could potentially be teaming up with stars in 2012.
Doesn't have uncertainty of CBA looming over his head.

The con's are obviously there as well, but there are more than enough there to justify signing with the lowly Nets.

So here I am sitting in San Diego watching the Lakers pregame show and they're talking about the Knicks. They're talking about how much the team has improved and how high the excitement level is in NY for basketball. They're talking about how the city is talking Knicks and the celebs are back in force.

And I'm struck by the fact that New Jersey has none of that. Carmelo might get to New York with this trade but I'll wager than within a year he'll realize that he made a horrific mistake and took short term gain in exchange for longtime happiness.

This is agent-speak.

He has a $14.2m team option on the table which is only $3.7m guaranteed.

What this REALLY means he's not interested in playing for you if you're planning on declining his option. Pick up the full $14.2m, and that's another story.

What do you mean he gets NY? He gets to live here? Really is that it? Bc I can promise you that the fans here will not love him.

Billups does not want to play there. Also, are they a playoff team this year. you realize they are 10-27 and melo will not be there for wednesday's game so at least 10-28.

Face of Brooklyn in 2 years...you realize he will not be in his prime for that much longer after that.

Rip hamilton Makes NJ a dynasty. We will look back on this trade as the trade that landed NJ Rip ,Melo will be an afterthought. We should let Melo know that we can get allan houston to come out of retirement, that might change everything!

no the agent said he will look to become a free agent as soon as possible. he would actually give up money to get out of jersey.

Any talk of playoffs for the Nets this year is unrealistic after a trade. It'll take that team a good 20 more games to find a rhythm. 57+ games into a season isn't time to make a playoff run when you're at the back of the playoff picture.

Nets beat writer Al Iannazzone points out that the rumored blockbuster trade for Carmelo Anthony would almost have to be completed on Monday, lest NJ be left with five healthy players.
New Jersey is expected to ship out eight players (including Devin Harris) if the deal is completed as reported, and everyone involved needs to pass physicals. With the Nets playing on Wednesday, there wouldn't be sufficient time if this is delayed past Monday. Stay tuned. Jan. 9 - 9:22 pm et
Source: Al Iannazzone

The Nets are nearing an agreement on a three-team trade that would net them Carmelo Anthony, sources tell Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Apparently, Anthony has said that he's "on board" with signing an extension in New Jersey as long as the Nets land Richard Hamilton. Talks between the Nets and Pistons revolving around a Rip for Troy Murphy swap are ongoing as we speak. Other parts of the deal would include Chauncey Billups becoming a Net (although a buyout is possible) and Devin Harris retaining value in Denver
