First off, this isn't a top 50 players list. This is a top 50 players in which you would start a franchise list. Big difference. Oh, and Met fans should love Hanley being one spot ahead of Jose. Not a bad list but there are a few I disagree with.

Yeah, you would expect a list like this to be just full of D-Ray players.

Anyway, the answer to your question is that whoever made the list obviously took into account more than the positive aspects of his game (which you focused on solely), and looked at his entire game, including the fact that he has a poor attitude and sucks at defense. You didn't mention either of those things in your post. Why not, I wonder?

Poor attitude? Who cares? And check your facts, Upton's been average at worst at 2B, his range is amazing.

He has a 105 RATE2 so far at 2B, 100 is average, 110 is gold glove caliber.

Oh,plus he's hitting over .500 with RISP, and he's what? 22?

That's actually a great list. Nate Silver is great. You can quibble with the rankings a little, but it all looks good to me.

BJ Upton is going to come crashing down to Earth pretty soon. He's striking out in 33% of his at bats. Not that's he's bad or anything, but he's not a .360 hitter. I'm thinking somewhere around .280-ish.

I've been waiting for him to crash down to Earth for a few weeks.. But he hasn't.

I think he hits .300 this season if he stays healthy.. Definitely needs to cut down on the K's though.

Still so young - Wasn't he in the majors at 19? I remember his first game it was on ESPN I forgot who the Rays were playing though.
