Devin Harris unwanted in Denver?

Post#1 » by shangrila » Mon Jan 10, 2011 1:26 pm

If Devin Harris ends up in Denver as part of the Carmelo Anthony blockbuster, he could be flipped in another trade soon after.

Dallas is aware that Denver has little need for Harris with Ty Lawson on the roster and the veteran's larger contract.

There will undoubtedly be competition for Harris if Denver acquires him and makes him available. The Trail Blazers have long been admirers of Harris and many teams are coveting a proven point guard.

So, what does everyone think about going after Harris if he becomes available? Kahn's reported interest in Brooks shows that he's at least looking at point guards at the moment and Harris is a similar player to Brooks.

Also, what would you give up for him? Flynn? Pick/s? Pekovic? Johnson?

I don't have much interest in Harris. I think he sucks.

I would go for Lowry instead of Brooks. Better defender, more of a play-maker less of a scorer

I'd consider Harris if the cost wasn't too great. If there's an extended lockout Rubio won't be here next year. Moreover, he's big enough to fit in the back court next to Rubio for stretches. He can get to the line and he is a pretty good defender. He would certainly help us.

I would not offer any core guy for him. Whenever we played them or I turned in a Nets game the dude hasn't impressed me at all. Flynn is probably the most valuable piece I would offer for him.

I would be interested in Harris, but I'm not sure where he fits. I don't see him being comfortable coming off the bench, but he's going to be worse than Ridnour until he learns the system. Maaaybe a Ridnour for Harris swap makes sense. The real issue here is when Rubio comes over, who starts? Does this piss off Rubio's grandma???

Realistically, though, I would like to see Harris starting and Rubio off the bench for the first year. That would give other teams fits. I just doubt it happens, however any of us might feel about it.

I'd be all about Harris. He's better defensively than any pg we have. Coupled with moving one of flynn/Rdinour to nyk, and an incoming iggy and we have a pretty solid team.

Trade #1:

NJ IN: Melo, Harringtin, Brewer
NJ Out: Favors, Harrism Murphy

DEN IN: Favors, Battie, Bassy, +Whatever picks from NJ, + MEM Pick MN
DEN OUT: Melo, Harrington

MN IN: Harris, Iggy
MN OUT: Brewer, Bassy, Johnson, Mem pick, utah pick

PHI IN: Johnson, Murphy
PHI OUT: Iggy

Trade #2:

NYK IN: Flynn
NYK Out: Randolph + Mason

or

NYK IN: Ridnour + Utah pick
NYK OUT: Randolph + Mason

Darko\Pek
Love\Randolph
Beasely\Webster
Iggy\Harris
Harris\Ridnour\(Rubio)

I wouldn't trade a core guy for him, but would like Harris as he's way better than what we have now at PG. I'd be fine trading Ridnour and Flynn for him.

I'd give Denver Flynn and Jazz pick for him. Harris is a starter at PG unlike any out of our current crapload of point guards. He can get to the rim and finish, he can play better defense than any of them. My only concern is his attitude he displayed in NJ.

Harris is one of the best defensive guards out there when healthy. I just don't think its smart to deal for that good of a pg when rubio is coming.

Rubio never said that he's coming over, In fact, he said he's yet to make his desicion.

I don't really see Rubio as being an issue. He's either coming over next year or the yea after or never. I don't think he will be ready to play 30+ minutes right away anyway so the options are:

RR comes over next - Harris has 2 years reamining on his contract so start Harris and bring RR off the bench. If Rubio outplays Devin, then Harris should be able to be moved at the end of the year as an expiring. If Rubio doesn't show he's ready to take the reigns, play them both another year, then decide.

RR comes over in 2012 - Harris is an expiring vet. Start Harris, then bring RR along as the heir apparent.

RR never comes over (or never plays for Minnesota) - You still have Harris and Ridnour as your PGs.

I doubt Ricky Rubio would be willing to play on the rookie scale contract only to compete with Devin Harris for minutes.

First, let me say that if DEN finally accepts this iteration with DET, its bad news for the Wolves. There is no more valuable spot for our cap psace than DEN, so DEN would compensate, and NJN wants Melo badly, so they'd compensate too.

If we were looking at Devin Harris, I would request that Ridnour be departing, both for finances and For Devin to take his role. This might not be such a bad thing, because NJN's reluctance to use Harris on previous offers was because they didn't have a PG to replace him. If Billups is in a deal, they still worry about whether he'll even show up.

I am not down on Devin Harris, and I wouldn't mind using he and Flynn for the rest of the season, with Harris remaining this summer to tutor Rubio.

I think you're right in that this was our most likely opportunity to take advantage of someone. It's starting to sound like Denver's greed is getting the best of them. I'm assuming that if this current deal dies, Melo will just leave next year.

I desperately want to us move to use that cap space - whether it's to acquire a player or picks. I've been opposed to Iggy in the past, but if it came down to doing nothing or trading Wes Johnson plus assets to get Igggy - I absolutely take Iggy.

More and more it's looking like the people in Denver are just bats4it stupid and more than a little dumb. If they are seriously not taking the deals that have been leaked they do not deserve to be running a team. They will end up losing 'Melo and getting nothing for him. They must be pretty attatched to their dreams with him.

Agree with the pro-Harris sentiment. Even if Rubio comes over worst case we have a trade chip that will at least have expring value when (if) we'd need to move him. Ridnour would have to be part of the deal for finances and I'd still be fine with moving Flynn in a separate deal letting Telfair be our backup for this year and find a 1 year backup if we Rubio doesn't come over.

His All Star year he was 21.3 and 6.9, his scoring has been closer to 16.7 since, but assists are still within 6-7 per game. Those numbers are a significant upgrade for us. Ridnour, cap space and a mid to late first for Harris would be a great deal.

Completely agree. Didn't he start some games in Dallas with another point guard?
