Call me crazy..but if Melo is here do we really want to re-sign Chandler? Seems like the money could be better spent. Just curious

In the end, I really think this could be about Fields. Any basketball man with half a clue who watches this kid play would be idiotic not to want him. Dude is already our smartest player, and seemed like one of the smartest players on either team last night, and he's 22. He is athletic, smart, plays the right way, great sense of the game.

I say Nuggets want him and are holding out for him -- and I say Donnie should raise his middle finger.

I honestly would be really upset if we traded Fields and got Melo. I'm not saying Melo is not one of the better scorers in the league but you win with players like Fields and he is the type of guy who makes it all go.

If the price is Fields, I gladly walk away.

Uhh, no he hasn't. He's already said he's going to resign Chandler, which would kill any chance at cap space in 2012.

If we get Melo, some of you fans need to let the 2012 dream die. Forget forming a big 3 with Paul/Melo/Amare.

after getting melo and resigning chandler there is no cap space in 2012. none at all. harrington's contract won't matter.

let's say D-Will wants to be a FA and won't re up with Utah, and makes it known he wants to play with Melo and Amar'e. Can we pull off a Felton/Chandler for Deron + filler deal?

i don't know if utah would be interested in that or not. maybe ? but we definitely won't have cap space to sign him with or without harrington.

What is Denver hiding and why don't they want to finalize this trade so they can finally ask Melo if he'd go to NJ?

Aside from Amare, hes the only player I hope we deem untouchable. championships are won with players like him.

The answer to your question is your question. How do they approach him with this if he already stated he wants no parts of a Jersey deal privately?

umm because then melo turns it down and they lose leverage with the knicks cause there would be no other team bidding

i think you knew that though lol

Also, if they think Melo is 50-50 about the Nets, then making the deal worse and worse for the Nets is only going to push Melo away from going there. Now they take Harrington, killing their chances at getting Paul. So it's Melo with Rip and Hamilton well into their 40s for the next several years.

well they could either lose him for nothing or lose him for something. Chandler and Felton would work very well in Sloan's system. And they're both young. I'd do that trade if I were Utah and I knew Deron wasn't coming back.

Karl just signed an extension or he's close to an extension. He knows if Melo is gone, the team isn't going anywhere. They have a ton of expirings. They DO NOT want to trade Carmelo. This is why we're hearing about this and that deal, then when it gets close its reported Denver wants more. Look at the Cavaliers. When you lose a superstar, there is no easy rebuild. They Nuggets aren't like the Lakers where they lost Shaq and had Kobe to fall back on. If Carmelo is traded, their next best player is Nene. Nene has a player option and he can leave. After that its Billups. He has a team option and its no reason for the team to pick it up if Carmelo leave. Then it becomes JR Smith and Ty Lawson...

If they trade Carmelo, that franchise is destroyed. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Rip Hamilton took part in Monday's shootaround for the Pistons, meaning a proposed trade is still not completed.
Whether he plays tonight against the Bulls remains to be seen, but as of now, it looks like he might play.

Yeah, Rip is ready to go NJ, maybe after the shoot around. LOL

The Knicks need to rack up some draft picks to get this deal done. Us being better than the Nets with Carmelo is irrelevant. The goal is to win a championship. Without Carmelo, we're not competing with the Heat the next few years unless Howard walks through that door. Not Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Dwight Howard.

Two things:

I don't believe ANY of these minute-by-minute updates on what the Nuggets are currently asking for or the ever-shifting reasons why the deal isn't done or what the psychological state of the various players is. For this kind of information to be available and legit, there would have to be someone sitting next to the Nuggets GM texting real-time updates to ESPN. It's bull.

Second: I think it's cool how every move we criticized in the offseason looks just about as horrible as we predicted - Harrington, Outlaw, etc - we knew these were bad moves at the time, and look how they are turning out. It's funny.

Okay, a 3rd thing: let's swoop in and trade for Rip Hamilton. That should ruin everything right?

Exactly.

Denver is in check, one step from being check-mate, and hiding the King by moving one space over every time.

New Jersey may look like a huge joke, if they get this done and Melo says no. Then what will Denver do?

IMO, I think Denver thinks the Knicks are going to get desperate and offer Gallo, Chandler, Fields/or Douglas, Curry, a 1st rd Pick so NJ does not get Melo. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT

Donnie is too smart to fall for this!
