Melo gives candid interview. Says he soon will meet with Nuggets brass regarding trade stuff and has not been approached about deal to NJ

christomasson Chris Tomasson
Melo says he doesn't want Chauncey Billups to be traded to New Jersey. He says Chauncey, a Denver native, belongs in Denver.

lol

So long as people lol try to use own Walsh's sentiments lol to support their criticism lol of a trade that helped the Knicks get much better lol and stands as one of his positive moves lol what he actually said "second guess", not "regret" lol is relevant. lol

lol

You mean people like you who use Walsh's own sentiments (that you have no idea of) to support your own agenda? OIC.

A bit strong to say Melo doesn't want Chauuney to NJ. Quote is here: "It think it'd be tough. He's from here. This is his home...."

"...He was born and raised here. So for him to come back here towards the end of his career and almost see that light at the tunnel where...

...he can have a chance to retire (Denver). Then to hear he could be sent to (NJ), I'm pretty sure it can be tough on him and his family.''

christomasson Chris Tomasson
Melo was asked how long this will drag on: "It could go on to the trade deadline... I have no idea about that.''

christomasson Chris Tomasson
Melo was asked what could keep him in Denver. "That's something that's for me and the front office to keep talking about.''

christomasson Chris Tomasson
Melo was asked if re-signing with Denver remains an option. "It's in the air,'' he said.

Chris Sheridan wrote:They want to go into Brooklyn with a superstar, and they have come to realize that Brook Lopez is not that superstar. 'Melo would be their foundation piece, and they'd try to build around him.

I'm confused. How exactly will they be able to build around Melo with minimal assets (since young players and draft picks will be dealt) and little cap flexibility to work with for the next 2.5 years at least?

defjux they might not even care to build around lopez. they probably dont even care if they win in brooklyn at first. they care about building a fanbase. if the team sucks (like they do now) what is the easiest way to build a fanbase? get a damn superstar.

the idea is that they got to brooklyn, have melo put asses into the seats so that they can make money

melo is marketable as a superstar. winning is cool and all, but they need melo to kick off their franchise in brooklyn properly.

Well saying he doesn't want to drag Chauncey to Denver is odd. Could be a) he won't go without Chauncey and is kind of implying he won't accept Nets or b) he is implicitly saying that he himself will go to NJ, but just doesn't think Chauncey should go too.

On b), talking about Chauncey not going to NJ could mean by implication that he himself has no problem going.

Dunno.

sooooooooo what i conclude from the quotes is that

A) Melo wants NY

B) Melo thinks NY doesnt want him

C) Since they dont want me, I'll settle for NJ

D) And if I got to NJ, I feel bad bringing Chauncey with me

Billups going public is a threat to the Denver front-office IMO, if they trade Melo *AND* deal someone who is beloved and wants to be there....I understand the rebuilding process begins if you trade Melo, but it is a concern to go against a lot of loyals fans wishes.

If he really believes we don't want him, he may give in and sign the extension with NJ.
