I also think that Melo and Lopez by themselves don't gurantee a playoff spot. They're third option would be Outlaw. If either gets injured the Nets would be screwed.

Billups and Rip would be the 3rd and 4th option in the rumored deal. They would make the playoffs especially this year.

Rip sucks, and Billups is far from the player he once was despite his statistical resurgence. Billups might be able to contribute some. Rip not so much.

If NY had such great talent WHY is Denver not even listening to them? Why has NO ONE reported anything on trade talks between NY and Denver?

I'll tell you why!!! No one values the Knick's assets besides Knick fans. Favors, 2 first round picks, and Harris DESTROYS anything the Knicks can offer ever.

SMH. Why do people have to resort to insults?

NY has been adamant on not gutting the team. Something that Nets have been reported to have no problems doing.

Opinions are not facts.

Here's the difference with us and New Jersey, our assets are contributing to a winning cause. Right now, it's not the fact that our assets aren't highly favored with other GMs, but more the fact that we simply can't afford to give up too much or we will gut our team.

We are winning games lately and a minor trade most likely wouldn't hurt the chemistry of the team but a major trade would. This is why we can't offer the same type of players like New Jersey can. Their position is different because well...what do they have to lose?

I agree but do you seriously think that team would not make the playoff in the dreadful east?

It's called "regressing in your third year of experience". If Favors does it,it won't work for him either. But that would be in 2013.

Because your not looking at ANYTHING objectively. Find me a non Knicks fan who thinks Wilson Chandler a third year role player and a 2014 late pick is worth Derrick Favors who was a #3 pick and unlimited potential and 2 first round draft picks one lottery and the other pretty high too.

Denver is NOT negotiating with NY. They don't value their assets. This isn't an opinion it's a fact.

you going to go J. Oneal route? thats the opposite scenarion, Oneal couldn't get burn in Por playing behind really solid players, AR got burn in GSW and now cant get any playing behind Shawn Williams? :-? come on now

That's great. No go find me one source that Denver has ever expressed interest in your assets.

That is ridiculous. I'm no Knick fan but the young players on NY are proving to be more than just stat players. They are on a team that could win around 50 games. If the Knicks wanted to offer Raymond Felton, Fieldsk, DG, or Chandler they would really change the dynamic of there team. The Nets are pretty much saying we will trade anyone except Brook Lopez.

And now that I remember, look at the compensation for the second pick overall in AR's draft. A 2nd round pick.

And BTW, Warriors and Knicks systems and coaches approach to young unsung players are tailor-made for AR. It's not like he has been in bad situations.

AR might well turn it and become a star down the road. Or some dumb GM could go crazy about him and overpay. But as is right now, his market value is a late 1st at best.

"Main" Asset comparisons: (Salary info from Shamsports)

Nets:
Derrick Favors, four years, qualifying offer in year 5
Devin Harris, 26.8 million over the next 3 years

Knicks:
Wilson Chandler, One year, Qualifying offer next year
Danilo Gallinari, Two years, qualifying offer for third year
Landry Fields, 2 years, third year qualifying offer

First round picks:

Nets: Nets 2011, 2012, 2013 picks, Golden State (lottery protected in 2011, top 11 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013, if not conveyed by 2013, Nets will instead receive the Warriors' 2013 and 2015 second-round picks), Houston's 2012 lottery protected pick, Lakers 2011 first round pick with top 18 protection. Nets can trade 4 of the 5 according to NBA rules (NY Times article).

Knicks: 2014 first round pick

If anything is wrong let me know.

How many 23 year old "role players" average 18ppg and 6.5rpg w/ 1.5 bpg and .7 steals? Plus the fact that he gives you versatility, defense and has improved every year.

Denver is NOT negotiating with NY.

fact

They don't value their assets.

opinion

they could just not be negotiating a trade because NY has been adamant and unwaivering in what they will give.

This debate is useless.

This isn't a thread about who has a better chance of getting Melo Nets or Knicks.

It's a thread about the Nets potentially getting Melo is a much discussed deal. The Knicks have NOTHING to do with this thread.

Once they get in the discussion let me know.

okay. how do you want me to respond.

the reason that AR isnt playing is because the role he would be playing is being played very well by another player. are you happy?

Thank you for grounding the ball to me. Jermaine O'Neal? Do you really wanna go there?

Ok. He was traded for 31 yo Dale Davis. Hence, which was his market value? Does "31 yo Dale Davis" sound like a lottery pick to you?

Beasley. Same draft as Randolph. 2nd pick overall. 2nd rounder this summer after two years of burn, and actually better stats than AR. I will concede that the situation was kind of different, and Miami didn't trade him, they got rid of him. But no one was offering lottery picks for him.

If after the trade you turn it around, then so be it. I think he's a fine player and he can still be a star. But right now, a player who hasn't done jack, and it's at the tail of the bench, doesn't have lotto or multiple 1st trade value.
