My take on the whole situation: the Knicks obviously have the assets (even without any high picks), but the Nuggets really don't want to do Melo a favor and send him to the Knicks (I wouldn't be surprised if they also blame the Knicks for Melo wanting out!?). That's the main issue here, IMHO.

From their perspective, they would rather take the Nets offer, even if it's slightly worse than what the Knicks would be prepared to offer.

Knicks not having assets is just BS spewed by the Nuggets, oh and also obviously most of the "journalists".

There's only 3 somewhat realistic ways for the Knicks to get Melo:
A) they overpay (basically trading almost every asset)
B) Melo insists he'll only resign with the Knicks
C) sign him in the summer
Right now, they all seem unlikely, though.

But all this talk about Knicks not having assets is just laughable. I was away for a week or 2, I come back, and it's like the 3rd or 4th deja-vu regarding Melo talk! Wicked! ;)

PORTLAND, Ore. - The suggestion that Amar'e Stoudemire would rather not see Carmelo Anthony in a Knicks uniform is as ludicrous as the ongoing saga of Anthony's impending trade, which appears to be reaching a crescendo.

In the summer, Stoudemire talked openly about his intention to join forces with other stars, such as Anthony, in New York. At practice here Monday, he was asked if that still is the case. "No question," he said. "Absolutely."

Stoudemire would not directly address Anthony's situation. "I don't know what's going on," he said. "I just hope it works out for the best." But he didn't exactly shoot down the idea of blowing up the roster to bring in another superstar player - although at this point, with the Nets reportedly on the verge of acquiring Anthony in a three-team trade, it might be moot.

Reading is fundamental. It's a period because no matter what Melo says he can't tell Denver where to trade him. PERIOD. He does not have the choice. They do. And on top of that he has no guarantee going into this off season how things are going to turn out. And if you don't think his agent isn't putting copious amounts of pressure on him to sign that extension then you are blinded by your desire to see Melo in a Knicks uni. PERIOD.

How many 65 million dollar contracts have you turned down? That money is eating at him night and day. Don't kid yourself.
But Melo can determine where he spends the next 5 years of his career. Period. Denver has no control over that. Period. If Denver wants a big trade package back for their franchise player it has to be somewhere he agrees to go. Period.

As far as turning down a $65 million dollar contract - he's been turning it down for a year now. If he were terrified of a career-ending injury in the next 3 months he would have signed the extension before the season began.

It's all speculation. We don't know who will blink first. We don't know if Denver is willing to deal with the Knicks. We don't know if Melo is willing to go to free agency. We don't know whether Melo is willing to play for the Nets. We don't know whether Melo is overly worried about the CBA. But keep punctuating your opinions with PERIODS.
Fact: Carmelo wants NY.
Fact: NY wants Melo.
Fact: Carmelo is not playing for NY.

Therefore, Denver is not interested in doing a deal with NY. So again, who has the leverage? It's time to move on people. Maybe, Carmelo goes full Kamikaze and lasts until free agency. But I doubt it.

And the point of the conversation was that there is nothing Donnie can really do but wait. PERIOD.
I love this does anyone remember when a certain player refused to report to Toronto in a trade and forced his way to another team by not showing up to report to the raptors. I believe it was with the Mighty mouse Stoudlemier (the pg) trade. I need to look that up. A player can refuse to report and in this case the raptors just moved him on to another team, not saying it will be done here but this happened before.
here we go
With Thomas gone, Stoudamire immediately sought a trade.[14] On 13 February 1998, he was shipped to the Portland Trail Blazers along with Walt Williams and Carlos Rogers for Kenny Anderson, Alvin Williams, Gary Trent, two first-round draft choices, a second-round draft choice and cash.[12] Anderson refused to report to Toronto and was traded to the Celtics with Žan Tabak and Popeye Jones for Chauncey Billups, Dee Brown, Roy Rogers and John Thomas.

It's actually amazing how petty some can get by actually spewing this out to the media to try to get Melo to give up on his wish and instead go with the team that he obviously would rather not go with. Really pathetic.

Wouldn't that be a logical negotiation route? What do they gain by basically, publicly declaring that we are not in the conversation? This is all so odd.

Because we're the team Melo wants to go to. The Nets are the ones being used to drive the price up for the Knicks.

This. Prok is a desperate man. He cun't (pun intended) afford to let Melo go to the Knicks cheaply so he's firing whatever he's got. Personally I think he knows Melo won't re-sign with them so he has nothing to lose offering the world.

We are being used. Why do you think the Nyets are about to mortgage their entire future to keep Melo from the Knicks?

They won't. They know Melo won't sign. This is all posturing/pleading hoping they can get the old man to wake up but Donnie naps right through this stuff.

The reality of the situation is Denver wants no part of the Knicks. They are hell bent on keeping Melo away from us and they will literally turned down the best deal to keep him out of NY. It is really pathetic because they aren't dealing with this like a business, they are taking it personally.

Nuggets-Nets still trying to agree to terms. Detroit's still in, just waiting for other two teams to put it together.

The whole issue I have with the Nuggets is that they are taking this personally and what ever trade they make they will be on the loosing side the real point is in any of the trades they are not getting the second best player in the trade with a player of Melos caliber that should be the best you hope for

Den would love to engage Portland and send Devin Harris, whom the Blazers like, there for andre Miller and Nic Batum. Port wants 2 keep Nic

I don't understand why teams keep asking for Batum. Obviously Portland wants to keep him long term and I don't see them trading him unless they are getting a stud in return.

You are not enjoying the overreaction? I am tempted to post my kitty picture again but I think I'll save it for the next Nets/Nuggets trade.

Plus he's not even that good. He's long and has some skills but he's all potential if you consider how people values him around the league. He's no where near as good as Chandler and he's not better than Gallo.

Not at all. Every time Melo gets traded to NJ (which happens on a weekly basis), I do this:

We're just going to have to settle for watching our poor, undermanned Knicks play 21 more games before the deadline as our only source of entertainment. Poor us.
