You guys should go after Granger and leave Anthony alone.

Even though this trade is stupid, the best part of this deal is getting rid of Harris.

Forget Carmelo. Forget the Nuggets.
Also, Billy, time to grow some balls man. It's time to call the owner and say "Mr. Prokorov, you hired me here for a reason, and that is to turn this team into a championship caliber team. Making this deal would be counter-productive towards that goal. I strongly urge you not to force us to make this happen...."
I totally agree. People thought we have a RICH owner that he would do things better.
Clearly Russian tactics dont work here.

What I don't understand is why the Nets think that they can sell Melo on playing for the them by gutting the roster and offering to bring in a couple of guys on their last legs.
For some reason the Nets have quit bidding against the Knicks and started bidding against themselves.

all you guys need is a SF, your set at PG-SG-PF-C
I have to wonder just how cheap they would come now though. I mean with the way this whole thing has been so public and all, I just have to wonder how other FOs are looking at out FO. Are they going to feel that they can take a little bit more than they would with another team? Because I would certainly think that way looking from the outside.

But Proky is determined to land a big name. And if that's true...that we have a meddling owner who has stars in his eyes without an understanding of how to build a winner...we may end up missing Ratner...VERY soon.
Yeah, I heard last night E. What a shame. Now, I feel sorry for King. He just got hired but he doesn't want to lose his job already. I suggested this way back in the summer when Proky came with all his fanfare. I knew that Thorn just didn't like something about him. Now we see why.
I really believe King learned his lessons with the Sixers. This is why he kept stating patience and what he learned from Thorn and what not. How can he/we be patient when your boss wants everything now. It's not Masai vs. King, it's Masai vs. Proky. They're both noobs at their respective jobs but Proky doesn't even know anything about the NBA. He's just thinking about how he can market his product across the globe. Put a face on his team so that people will know who the Nets are. Unfortunately, he's killing our future by doing this.
And this crap about sending him to the Knicks. That's childish. But you know why they said that? It's because we put up the billboard next to MSG in the summer with Proky and Jay-Z on it. We started the battle and Denver's exploiting the fact that Proky will lose out to the Knicks if they don't do the deal. This is looking bad unless King pulls off something out of the blue. Who would've thought that King would be the good guy in this situation. We were bashing him all this time and it wasn't even his fault. Sorry King, I hope you can do something to help fix the mess that could potentially destroy the franchise.

You can replace the word "Nets" with "Prokhorov" in your post and then you'd be correct.

Nuggets threaten to trade Melo to NY
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=a ... rade011011
I say let 'em! Who would they get back again and how much better is that package than ANY of the hundreds of packages we're offering? Get them to take back Harrington's contract and try to match it with their young players. Honestly, as much as I don't like the Knicks, right now I'd be more happy with Denver getting crap back than being disgruntled about the Knicks getting Melo. As tired as I am with all these rumors, I'm completely sick of Denver.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Merging)
I'm a Suns fan so I'm really an outsider.
I just think the Nuggets has overestimated the power they have on the bargaining table. They don't have too many leverages really. They'll either receive offers of some decent (but not guaranteed all-star types) prospects or let Melo walk and be stuck with Al Harrington. They should be feeling lucky when the Nets (with all due respect) is foolish enough to offer Derrick Favors and a bunch of first round picks for him.
I'd say stay put and wait till late February. I guarantee you the Nuggets will come crying for something. Then you guys don't even have to send them the picks.

But seriously, most of the Nets posters here, including me, agree with you.

just get rid of travis outlaw and get a real SF using some draft picks and expirings along with outlaw.
We arent even there yet.
Denver is just being greedy. Proky has shown his hand and Denver is just RAISING the POT to see how far Proky is willing to go.

I am for this trade. Adding Harrington can be resolved either way. I am not willing to add anymore picks.
My thing is if we go along with all this,
what is the price going to be for CP3 if we want to get him before he becomes a FA?
Proky has just ruined acquiring other pieces down the line.

What does our cap situation look like down the line AFTER Melo signs his extension plus taking on Harrington's contract and keeping Outlaw? Brook might need an extension after this year also.

That's the problem. FOs are seeing that we have an owner that is willing to pay a really high price for players. And if its true that he doesn't care if he ends up being a rental player then I think that'd make it even worse in terms of the price. The price for us compared to the one for other teams is going to be astronomical.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Merging)
Nets should tell the Nuggets to f**** for trying to threaten them. Let them trade Anthony to the Knicks. They're not getting a better deal than what the Nets have already offered. Nets shouldn't take on Harrington's contract at all. Btw, maybe from a marketing standpoint having Melo is good, but honestly, the guy plays no defense. He takes alot of bad shots too..
With the Knicks knowing about the Nuggets' threat to the Nets, the Knicks could lowball the Nuggets this time.

They have always wanted Joakim Noah or Blake Griffin (their true desires). Its a shame that they still believe they can get one of the two.

It's a shame that they believe that they can rip us off. I'm glad they went this far cuz I really really hope that King can just convince Proky that they're trying to rip us off and then Denver is done. They'll be screwed!

It's $9 million guaranteed out of $12.5, utterly unwaivable.FGump wrote: You lack understanding on the nature or use of partially-guaranteed deals ..or especially, this one.
The final season of Hamilton's deal can in essence be bought out right now, at a minor discount. But you still have to pay him the hefty sum of $9M for seeing him walk to another team on a new contract. And it's not something that you can somehow use to advantage in free agency or in a mid-season trade next year - your opportunity to waive/pay him that $9M ends July 1 this summer. If you want to do a trade-and-waive after that, the contract is fully guaranteed for $12.5M.
Assuming nothing happens between now and then, when we get to the trade deadline in Feb 2012, he'll have a full guarantee on his contract, and will be the same kind of expiring contract as every other player is in the final year of a deal.
That was the detailed explanation of my point VC4P....
I'm not seeing the point.
That 9 million still counts against the cap...
