That trade is just bad, but not legendary. If we give Fields, we get Afflalo back.

And Melo is not a franchise player

I don't think Melo's game should so much be questioned at this point because it may appear he could be headed to Jersey. Melo's game has always been pretty much what it is.

he's been the best player on a team that has won 50 games in each of the last four years

if thats not a franchise player, i guess there's no such thing as one

Borderline. I think best case he'd be as good as Amar'e and I guess you can call Amar'e franchise. But that's best case. Amar'e shoots at 53%+ from the field. Melo shoots it at 43% this year which is rather poor actually.

Yes Melo is a versatile scorer, more versatile than Amar'e, but he's inefficient. Amar'e is hyper efficient. And it's not like Amar'e is just dunking the ball. He's shooting it at 10% points higher than Melo and taking a lot of jumpers.

Lebron is a franchise player. Duncan was. Shaq was.

Carmelo does not have nearly the impact of any of those players.

If we have Amare-Melo-Felton and Gallo we just need to find a good Feilds replacemnt Affalo would be ideal and a rugged bug man away from serious June ball. It may take time to get those role players here but with good drafting and smart moves it might not take a while. I say when it comes down to the wire we got to trade Feilds and Chandler if thats what it takes. We are not going to get him via trade for Eddy and Chandler and say AR

We will if Melo won't sign an extension anywhere else, which is the only way we get him anyway

What we don't know is who Donnie is NOT making avaliable. He may have told Denver Chandler, Fields are not avaliable.

Melo has never missed the playoffs since he got to the league. He must be doing something right.

6 first round exits in 7 years...

Melo is a very good player, he can make an above average team a playoff team, but he won't get you further than that. Sh*t, people here don't even think he makes the Nets a playoff team.

Think about it, people here have debates whether or not we even need him. Would you have that debate about Lebron? A prime Duncan or Shaq? No!

There has to be some distinction.

By that definition nobody is a franchise player. LeBron couldn't win alone, Wade won with Shaq, Kobe won with Shaq then Pau, etc. Melo is certainly a franchise player. He brings that team to the playoffs every year, and if he didn't hurt his ankle two years ago it may have been an Orlando/Denver finals the way he was playing.

well i have a different definition of a franchise player, you want a hall famer to build your team around. which is pretty irrational, cause then why label players as franchise players, just call it what is, hall of famer.

melos not a hall of famer so you cant win championship with him as one of your top players.

thats what i take from your definition of a franchise player.
