6 first round exits in 7 years...

Melo is a very good player, he can make an above average team a playoff team, but he won't get you further than that. Sh*t, people here don't even think he makes the Nets a playoff team.

Think about it, people here have debates whether or not we even need him. Would you have that debate about Lebron? A prime Duncan or Shaq? No!

There has to be some distinction.

people on this board debate about whether or not we need him because they have no idea what they're talking about. the team goes on a 5 game winning streak, and we don't need melo. we then lose 3 straight and it's time to blow it up, fire mike, wake up donnie, get melo, trade the cawr, etc.

melo is absolutely a franchise player, and so is amare stoudemire.

Agreed.

And honestly there were people that didnt want Lebron and woyld be reacting in the same way if Lebron was in Melos situation (though less so since Lebron obviously us better thab Carmelo.

I see a lot of similarities between the melo situation and the kobe drama a few years back, including trade rumors galore (like the kobe to chicago, kobe to the clippers). Melo might not be able to bring a championship by himself, but the possibilities could be endless if he can be paired up with a dominant presence like amare (and as long as the entire roster isnt gutted for him)

and now ill go stfu and gtfo

That's a very valid question.

I'd say mainly becuase Gasol isn't a franchise player, and because the triangle runs through Kobe. On top of that, Kobe is better than Melo.

Neither is Jordan, Magic, or LArry by those standars of a franchise player. If Lebron is a franchise player and those guys are not I DONT WANT A FRANCHISE PLAYER

GONYK is right. Melo and Amar'e are something like 75% franchise guys. Which at least argues for why you need both.

Thank you

Balloney..

Just because they are individually good doesn't mean you need both. Amare and Melo is not a good combination.

I have seen almost all of Amare's games since he is in the league and Melo definately is not a good match. They are both not good defensively and duplicate too much of the same offensively.

Pierce and KG or other combos are better because they add more diverse skills.

You are having a different argument. I never said Amare and Melo are a good fit. All I said is that it takes two players of their level to win anything serious, therefore, each of them by themselves are not true franchise.

Well, if a franchise player needs another top player next to him, then he's not a player who makes your franchise all by himself. He's a "co-franchise player" at best and that's a fair way to describe both Amar'e and Melo probably.

no offense, but you didnt really answer my question. i never said a franchise player needs another top player next to him. i dont know where that came from, but my question was why not just call them what they are, hall of famers, you basically have no distinction between hall of famers and franchise players. that was my point.

There are obviously some more franchise players and even Lebron doesn't make one team great all by himself. Kobe certainly never did and Lebron was close.

Dwight Howard, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and John Wall are obviously franchise players or will be.

But I think Melo and Amare is better than Kobe and Gasol to be honest. At least right now.

False. All three of those players were franchise.

Can you run the offense through all three of them? Yes.
Do they all make their teammates better? Yes
Can you count on them to get a bucket when you need it? Yes.

Also, if you don't want Lebron, the talent not the person, you are clueless

It doesn't matter if Melo is a franchise player, he is not coming here. Move on people.

Melo is coming here. None of these BS trades makes me believe otherwise.

And the Detroit team from a few years back did not have a franchise player, they argueably didn't even have a true allstar caliber player.

It is more important to have the right combination of players than have big names.

How does the current situation affect my perception at all? I have basically laid out my criteria for a franchise player. You can check it against any player in the league and probably see how I reach my conclusion.

oh yea theres no way melo ever becomes more efficient than amare offensively. just pointing out to people that melo isn't a volume scorer/ inefficient. He was 6th in free throws attempted last year (makes 80%) and shoots 46% for his career so i don't think he's a volume scorer at all.

Melo is a franchise player. If he had someone like Pau Gasol, do you really think they wouldn't contend for a title? If yes then I think he can with Amare.
