Durant is a cancer?

Post#1 » by whatisthis » Tue Jan 11, 2011 6:26 am

The question in my mind is how much will Durant improve? I know Westbrook will be a stud, but I need to see something from Durant to convince me he is all about winning and will sacrifice to win. So far I see some cancer-ish traits in KD.

Dreamcatcher, please explain this to me. I'm intrigued by Durant's cancerous traits.

ill just copy and paste what I wrote on the Player Comparison board.

1) He doesn't value possessions. There have been countless times where OKC is on a run or starting a little run and KD screws it up by being careless with the ball.

2) He gets mad when Westbrook freezes him out. I can't tell you how many times Durant runs around the court and wants the ball from Russ, Russ doesn't give him the ball, then KD pouts and shrugs his shoulders and stands there doing nothing.

3) When he goes for a steal and gets his hands on the ball he immediately runs up court hoping for an easy fast break dunk. He doesn't even try and get the ball first, he hopes his teammates gets it and passes to him. The dude is obsessed with points.

4) His defense is real spotty. He doesn't give the effort you would expect out of your superstar most of the time.

5) He gets upset when people pick at his weaknesses. He got real mad when the Dallas stat guru tore him a new one on his lousy plus/minus a couple years ago. He got mad at Phil Jackson when he said KD gets star treatment. And this year he got mad at a local blog writer who wrote some negative things about KD. He seems to have thin skin.

6) He is basically T-Mac, KD will have more success than him because he has a better organization around him and better cast of leaders, but they have similar attitudes and mindsets.

You heap all sorts of ridiculous praise on Jeff Green and now you call Durant a cancer. What kind of bizzarro world do you come from man?

So he's turning the ball over on purpose?

2) He gets mad when Westbrook freezes him out. I can't tell you how many times Durant runs around the court and wants the ball from Russ, Russ doesn't give him the ball, then KD pouts and shrugs his shoulders and stands there doing nothing.

He gets mad when he goes 5+ possessions without touching the ball as Westbrook/Green go in chuck mode and blow leads. He should get mad, he's the most efficient scorer volume scorer since Jordan.

3) When he goes for a steal and gets his hands on the ball he immediately runs up court hoping for an easy fast break dunk. He doesn't even try and get the ball first, he hopes his teammates gets it and passes to him. The dude is obsessed with points.

Uh kind of like last game when he passed to Westbrook when he had a fast break dunk? He's a great finisher, what do you expect him to do?

4) His defense is real spotty. He doesn't give the effort you would expect out of your superstar most of the time.

Durant always tries on defense and honestly he is one of the few players that give constant effort. It's generally Green/Westbrook that don't close out on pick and pops.

Wouldn't this be a great trait to have considering he has corrected those weaknesses every offseason?

6) He is basically T-Mac, KD will have more success than him because he has a better organization around him and better cast of leaders, but they have similar attitudes and mindsets.

They are absolutely nothing alike. You do realize that Durant has only take 26+ shots in 3 games since he entered the league, right?

I would love to hear your opinions on Westbrook these past 15 or so games when he has started to press things constantly, forcing horrible shots and turning the ball over on dumb drives.

+1

When you say Durant got mad at the dallas writer and other who have criticized him, define mad.

Looked to me that he just responded sayin he is just working hard to get better.

Dream Catcher what town do you live in? All I can say is that there are 29 team that would love to have Durant as their franchise player. Don't go getting spoiled. And right now you are sounding a little spoiled.

The kid is ONLY FREAKIN 22.

But Damn Jeff Green is amazing when he suck ass all game then hits one big bucket. If Durant played like Jeff Green this team would still be winning less than 30 games.

I started to reply to all of this point by point but it's not even worth it. Calling Durant, of all players, a cancer is so ridiculous. We don't hear anything negative from the guy in the media, none of his teammates or coaches have anything negative to say about him. Some poor body language when he doesn't get the ball makes the guy a cancer? Get real...

I have so much respect for KD. He's not about himself, he often defers attention onto others and have made it a priority to think team first and team last.

In fact, the player DreamCatcher says is so very different (Derrick Rose) is exactly the same. He and KD share similar mindset in that regard.

Cancer? Please.

All the GM's in the league voted that Durant would be the number one guy they would take on their team this summer. But yeah, he's a cancer.

Apparently every GM in the league wants a cancer

Good luck finding anyone with a shred of credibility to back you up your arguements. Sometimes he deserves to be called out for poor play or mistakes but your arguments are beyond off base.

Regarding the whole getting upset when he doesn't get the ball thing, I think he should be more vocal about getting the ball.

He's the team's best player, one of the most efficient scorers in the game, and the league's leading scorer. If he goes several possessions without touching the ball, he should be upset.

You hear it all the time with Howard, how he should be getting pissed off at not touching the ball on offense more often, how he needs to be more vocal, etc. You want your superstar to be aggressive.

Perhaps Dream is holding Durant to a higher standard?

Durant is still growing and part of that is continued development as a leader.
