There are always those players you just hope succeed. In this year's NBA Draft, Nick Young is a player you should be rooting for and cheering on.
When Young was only five years old, his oldest brother Charles Jr. was shot and killed by a member of the Bloods, L.A.'s notorious street gang. He'd been mistaken for a member of a rival gang while exiting his college classroom.
Young's older brother John suffered a breakdown following the murder, and was later committed to a mental institution.
Young then flunked out of Hamilton High when he was a freshman and transfered to Dorsey where he found himself in a class with members of the Bloods gang, who had killed his older brother. Young dropped out of school after he stopped going to his classes.
At Young's third high school, he found his niche. As a senior, he averaged 27 points and 11 rebounds. However, due to NCAA academic needs, Young needed to raise his SAT to 820. Young, a special education student, had three chances to raise his SAT, but he failed on the first two attempts. The third time was the charm and he was able to go to USC.
Nick Young has been through so much that the NBA should be a breeze. I wish Nick Young the best and hope he becomes a great NBA player.

Man, you'd never know it by looking at him. I used to get annoyed when I saw him smiling and giggling all the time, but I honestly had no idea what he'd been through. He's a real tough dude and I'm glad he chose not to give up. This kid is a real soldier on and off the court and I think the whole league is starting to find out.
