Small Trade that would help

Post#1 » by fnasser » Wed Jan 12, 2011 5:15 am

Houston Trade 6 mil Trade Exception for Al Harrington
Houston Trade Scola, Lowry, Hill, Draft Picks For Carmelo
Houston Trade Brooks, Yao, Jeffries, Lee, Bud for Chris Paul and Emeke Okafor (maybe throw in a pick also if we have one, im sure morey can get one)

We'd be under the number of players allowed so we'd have to call up some D-leaguers and take some small contracts from the two teams.

Chris Paul /Ish
Kevin Martin / T Will
Carmelo Anthony / Battier
Hayes / Patterson
Miller / Whatever

Concentrate on big man this summer. sign landry
BANG!

As cool as this trade is, I wouldn't be a Rockets fan after this either.

what would it take to get melo even for a rental? once we get him, maybe we can turn around trade him for a center like marc gasol or andrew bogut?......lol

what is the waiting period requirement after you trade for a player and then turn around to trade that player again?

It's hard to say what it would take, but I think Morey's starting offers was probably something like Yao, Hill, Budinger and two first rounders. It'll likely take quite a bit more though.

The waiting period is two months, unless you trade the player by himself, in which scenario, you're allowed to trade the player immediately.
However there's absolutley no chance Morey would trade Carmelo to another team this season, if he were to trade for him.

That said if you trade for Carmelo and he's unwilling to sign an extension with you, you'll still likely get a large TPE, a pick or two and maybe Anthony Randolph and/or one of NY's small forwards in a sign&trade in the offseason. That is if the new CBA remains more or less the same.

If it was like Jeffries, Yao, Hill, Budinger, 2 1st rounders than i would do it for a rental. Since you said it is possible to trade Melo by himself that would put the Rockets in an enviable position. They could get the large TPE during the summer or dangle Melo out there to see what offers you can get. I really think Morey is looking at this also. If Melo doesn't sign an extension, he can dangle him out there. I think that is why the Rockets were trying to get Melo asap according to reports from a couple of months ago till now even. I think Morey has a bigger plan. If he can get Melo the sooner the better, it will give him more time to either convince Melo for the extension or dangle him out there longer to see the tons of offers the Rox get before Feb 18th deadline should Melo not sign the ext...you can be sure there will be alot of them! If we get no takers to our liking, then we still have time to convince him about signing during the early summer before free agency begins (July 1st). Melo also has the CBA thing going on this summer, so he is also worried which can affect his decision possibly in our favor.

The only thing now is that the Net's offer is much better than what the Rox would offer. However, the Net's offer is dependent on Melo signing that extension which the Rox are not requiring. The key is whether Melo wants to sign that extension or not with the Nets. If he says no, the Nets are not trading for him. Since we're only asking for a rental as minimum, we still have a chance. Honestly, i don't care for having Melo playing for us, but getting him to trade for a star center or close to it is what i am hoping for.

I would give up Melo straight up for Bogut, but i think we could get more for Melo in addition to Bogut.....but i'm dreaming on that part since the Bucks wouldn't give him up unless an extension was signed. I still think we could get a young upcoming center and other players for him w/o being too greedy even w/o an extension.

Some of you are thinking it would be crazy for the Rox to give up that much for no guarantee of extension, but sometimes in life, you gotta take a big risk to get a big reward. I think Morey is thinking that way though time is against the Rox right now.

Morey has been trying to long to trade for a superstar to then just trade him a few weeks after acquiring him. No chance he'd get traded again.

I could see the Bucks trading Bogut, but only if a team were to eat all of their crappy contracts, which then just isn't worth it.

That said, if Melo wouldn't agree to an extension and the Rockets were to sign&trade him to the Knicks, the Rockets likely would still have a boatload of capspace to sign a center in free agency, deping on how radical the CBA will be changed and which players the Rockets were to move out in a Melo deal, which is why I do agree with the risk part.

Yes, if we trade for him and he doesn't want to sign that extension, we should trade him before the deadline if possible. No need to wait for that TPE in the summer.
