klemen4 wrote:In all this Melodrama, I would like to once again present my idea of NY trade I mentioned few days ago. Now also the numbers are double checked, so this is the final version:

In NJN-DEN-DET trade DEN saves around 12 mil in salaries and 12 mio in luxury tax. They send out around 34 mil in contracts, incoming around 22 mil. That is why Billups is in the trade, for savings.

So 24 mil savings.

----------------------------------

Let say that NY takes Melo+Harrington+Balkman+2 small contracts. That is around 26 mil going out. For trade to work they must take in at least 19,5+ mil. So there is only 6,5 mil savings for Den, plus 6,5 mil in luxury tax.

So only 13 mil savings...

Like this trade:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=4nmnt2p

Curry,Azubuike,Mason,Gallinari,Fields, uta 2011 pick, ny 2013 pick
FOR
Anthony,Harrington,Balkman, Carter, Ely

....but Curry contact is 50% payed, on the other hand there is trade kicker, Azubuike 80% insurance covered. So additional savings would be around 4 mil on Curry and 2,6 mil on Azubuike. Lets say max 6,6 mil best case scenario.

So that is 19,6 mil savings.

Now where to get them additional savings. Here MIN comes in. Being under the cap they can take contract, to do that NY has to give them AR.

So MIN should be included in a trade and the trade expand to this:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=5rpmet6

MIN AR,Walker,JR Smith, 3 mil form NY
NY Telfair, Uta 2011 first(goes to DEN)
DEN /

Here Den saves additional 6,7 mil on Smith salary and 6,7 in luxury tax.

Now final DEN saving in NY trade are 33 mil. Plus lets not forget they would be just bellow luxury tax line of 70 mil meaning they also would get around 3 mil form the league at the end of the year. So when calculated everything savings for Denver would be 36 mil.

So comparing NJN and NY deal it looks like this:

Savings:
- 36 mil NY deal Vs. 24 mil NJN deal
Players:
- Gallinari,Field,Walker Vs. Favors,Morrow,Harris
Picks:
- NY 2013, UTA 2011 Vs. (best case) = NJN 2011 lottery, GSW lottery

Still NJN has a better package because of higher picks and Harris that will be traded for another prospect, but also look at the savings. It is close, but...

The knicks are not trying to beat the Nets offer, our GM will not gut the roster for Melo. Stop posting these trades here.. Thanks.

The Nets offer is irrelevant if Carmelo won't extend there. If it's a question of who can give the Nuggets a better deal in terms of draft picks and taking on bad contracts, there's no discussion necessary. Obviously the Nets win out there.

do you guys think if melo gave the DEN FO an ultimatum and that he'd only sign an extension with the knicks that NY would pull guys liek chandler/gallo off the table?

I think the offer was always Gallo/Curry/1st, and I don't think Donnie has budged. He may have added AR, but that's it.

If Melo gives them an ultimatum, our offer has to be better than what Denver would get in a sign and trade in the summer. So basically we have to beat a trade exemption and a first rounder or two. However, I think that Donnie is not trying to obliterate them and I think he will give them a choice of Gallo/Chandler/Fields, add Curry and a first rounder. From a PR perspective, I don't see how Denver would be able to accept a trade where they don't get one of the three at least.

One out of the three is all they will get and they will like it

I thought you could not get a trade exception if the team that is trading a player is under the cap?

As Hahn just mentioned in the thread, EXPECT NO MLE IN THE NEXT DEAL.

well guys, i think we can finally let this thread die down a bit.

Looks like the NYK have done their part imo.

It's all in Melo's hands now...

The Nets look dead, again. They need to go away with their tail between their legs, and begin their traditional rebuild.

To the Nets regarding Melo: He's just not into you.

It was always in his hands. The knicks were never competing with anyone to make our offer better. It is up to Melo to tell Denver, trade me to the Knicks or I am going there in free agency. Otherwise, we have no chance and we are not getting him.

I would do this deal. Yes, yes, we can hope that everything bounces and money doesn't matter over heart but reality is reality and if you get a shot at locking Melo up without giving away everything and the kitchen sink you do it. Then you have Chandler either back or as what should be a terrific sign-and-trade piece in the offseason if the feeling is that they need to strengthen another position.

All the BS floating around about the new CBA needs to be put into perspective. We keep hearing about what the owners plan on doing but it's not about what they plan on doing. They have to negotiate and the players have a say in that.

There is no way that existing contracts get 'rolled back' as I've heard. Those contracts were signed with full knowldge and are legally binding, a court would uphold them. So there won't be any rolling back.

The owners want a hard cap so we hear. I know there are some owners that like having a way to spend more so I don't see that being a reality either. Even if the cap does get harder, there will be wiggle room, loopholes and leakage above it by teams willing to spend.

I can see contracts being limited in years less than previously. I can see some exemption contracts disappearing. I can see some of the guaranteed money going away as incentives and milestones being inserted into more contracts to keep players from turning into a 'Curry'. As a counter point though if players give up the total guarantee for incentives and triggers they will also have more say in trade clauses and options. If a team can influence whether a kicker gets the player the money, that player needs some protection, too.

There is no way the top players are getting less money per year as the top players who signed contracts just before the expiration of this cba. Sure middle and low end players will see the difference but the top players, the stars, they are getting paid and will not be underpaid compared to other top players and stars. They may have to accept shorter contracts, some with triggers and options, but the per year number will be comparable to the current max contract structure.

Owners can clamor about what they want all day long but the players want something, too and it's about compromise to get them all back to the business of basketball. Everything the owners want won't get into the new CBA. It never does in any agreement of this sort.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Bill King's wife should Netflix the actual movie "He's Just Not That Into You." Then maybe the Nets will start getting the message about Melo.

Marc Stein should rent it too. He and Wojina can cuddle up together.

Like Donnie Walsh said a few weeks back about the phlethora of draft picks the Nets have:

Walsh said Nets general manager Billy King probably made yesterday's three-team deal with the Lakers and Houston not just with Anthony in mind.

"Billy's going to rebuild the team through the draft, and he can use those draft choices to trade with other players," Walsh said.

Mike Fisher: I know #NBA/Stern Suffers From Post-Heat/LeBron Blindness. But Amare-Calls-Melo used to be called 'tampering.' 2 minutes ago

Marc Berman: Fed-up Curry wants to talk to agent Leon Rose after Knicks dress 11 and not him. Rose also represents Carmelo. http://bit.ly/hyUSzd about 18 minutes ago

Are you really worried about that? Clearly Melo and Leon Rose aren't even on the same page right now so I doubt this would affect anything.
