Blackhawks interested in McCabe

Post#1 » by The-Insider » Fri Nov 9, 2007 6:14 am

With a strong core of offensive talent, the Chicago Blackhawks could use a solid shot from the point to strengthen their hockey club.
According to two sources, TFP has learned that Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon is searching through the market for a veteran powerplay specialist.

It's believed the Hawks are willing to part with a handful of young talent, with the likes of center Dave Bolland, left wing Rene Bourque, and defensemen Cam Barker, Danny Richmond and Dustin Byfuglien supposedly available for the right price.

The Hawks, according to one source, have inquired about Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe, who played for Chicago in 1999-2000.
McCabe, currently nursing a groin injury, has been the hometown fans whipping boy this season and the Leafs struggle to win hockey games. While it's unclear as to how in-depth the inquiry has gone, McCabe has a no-movement clause and the Leafs would need his stamp of approval if any trade is reached.

Other defensemen supposedly available include Derek Morris and Ed Jovanovki of the Phoenix Coyotes, and Nashville Predators' rearguard Marek Zidlicky.

fwiw - Nick Kypreos made references to the fourth period on several occasions. He gives them credit on breaking stories.

Theres certainly pieces in Chicago to make this work. But Mccabe likely won't waive his NMC to the windy city so I doubt it.

This may be in fact the trade that has been rumoured for some time involving a player with a no trade contract...

I think that he will waive his NTC, most players can be coerced either by being offered extra money or a demotion to the minors...

I think though if this can be accomplished we should jump all over it. The young talent being offered is only fair quality but any step that relieves us of some cap will be a benefit and makes us deeper in younger players that can be traded, for a need we can use...

I would like to see a front line player like Ruutu and a young player coming this way or maybe even a draft choice perhaps a second rounder but?...

Not with Kubina out. He would be the perfect guy to play McCabe's minutes.

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
