Hansbrough remains starter?

Post#1 » by jowglenn » Wed Jan 12, 2011 9:26 am

Is McRoberts just injured? He's gotten DNP-CDs his last 3 games, but I don't know what's going on, as I don't get to see every game.

Question is - with the way Hansbrough has played in his 3 starts, does he remain the starter even when McBobs is back healthy?

Hans is averaging 15 and 9 on 54% shooting in the last three games on an average of 28 MPG. That's pretty darn good, and I think it shows that Hansbrough has the talent to contribute every night. I have not been happy that Posey got so much more burn than Hansbrough, but I guess Obie has figured it out????

What do you guys think? Does Hansbrough remain the starter for the rest of the season essentially?

I would like him to remain the starting PF for the remainder of the season.

He can score the mid range jumper with ease, and certainly hasn't been a slouch on defense or the boards. Sounds about right to me, Keep him in!!!

there is no injury to McRoberts. Hansbrough is starting and we've started playing more small ball with Granger at the four. if you are asking a fantasy question, move off of McRoberts and Posey.

Hansbrough's been fairly impressive, falling one rebound shy of recording two double-doubles in his first three starts. On the other hand, McRoberts has no double-doubles in 29 starts.

If he keeps playing at even 85% of his current level, the job should be his for the foreseeable future.

If he is healthy.. Tyler should remain the starter. He is a threat for a double double every game. McRoberts was basically pretending to be a point forward and when the other team forgot about him would on occasion get a dunk or 2.

But dont say that on Pacers Digest. They love McRoberts over there. And I do mean LOVE.

You have to start your 5 best players. There are some people who believe they should start McRoberts just because he is a home town guy.

Remember when we drafted Reggie over Steve Alford... People were pissed... Once people see how much better T is over Josh, they will change their minds (I hope)

Red Auerbach won a ton of championships bringing one of his best players off the bench. There used to be an article on that somewhere on RealGM. Red felt that by not having his best lineup on the floor the first six minutes, he got better and the other team got worse the rest of the game. Boston had a series of great sixth men (Ramsey, Heinsohn, Havlicek) that would have started had Red believed in starting his best 5 players.

So the Lakers should play...

Kobe
Artest
Lamar Odom
Pau
Bynum?

Charlotte should play...
DJ
Gerald Henderson
Jackson
Wallace
Tyrus Thomas?

It doesn't work that way.

Hansbrough should be the starter. He has a future and he has been impressive, and i was one of his biggest critics when we drafted him. I hated the pick but it looks like he is a very good player with a lot of upside and may even be a heck of a starter in the NBA, and being injured for as much as he's been so far early in his career, it only makes sense for him to remain as starter and catch up on the experience.

As for McRoberts, i don't understand the hype. Sure, he is a nice energy player but why in the world do so many Pacers fans want him to start is mind boggling to me. He is not and never will be NBA starting material. To me, he's a poor mans Chris Anderson. And, Anderson doesn't even start for Denver.

Bring the energy and the hustle off the bench. That's the only way McRoberts will be able to remain in the association long term.

I don't care if Tyler starts. In fact when you go to our bench you trade Ford for Collison, Foster for Hibbert and lose a lot of offense. Hansbrough is a much better scorer than McRoberts so you might balance things out better with Hansbrough off the bench.

If you are going to go small when you go to the bench scoring would be less a problem. In that case I like Hansbrough starting. Bottom he needs to play. I've said all season this team needs what he brings.

Tyler should be the starter. His energy has been a difference as of late.

I agree with everybody on h ere. McBob started off the season pretty nice but tapered off (maybe when Tyler was getting all those DNP's, McBob felt more comfortable, I don't know.)

Anyway, I do like McBob off the bench and would like to see him get some run. See if he can bring that same fire and hustle off the bench in spurts. Definitely have him playing over Solomon F. Jones!!! I'm fine with re-signing McBob for next year, but would like to see him play some backup 5. There are only a handful of legit pure natural centers a la Roy for Hibb to match up with (Howard, Bynum, Bogut, etc.) The rest are some of those more athletic 4/5 tweeners such as Horford, Okafor, Nene, and David Lee - guys McBob might match up better with in reserve minutes. Therefore, that leaves room to take a run at a solid free agent to play alongside Tyler.

I think Hansborough should be the starter, but McRoberts has a significant place in the rotation IMO. Foster will soon be gone, Solo IMO is trash, and Posey isn't a four. McBob should still get a reasonable amount of playing time as a backup.

I also agree that there's no good reason Josh couldn't play some backup five, especially when we go small. He's big enough and definitely athletic enough to deal with most of the so-called "centers" in the league. In fact, maybe that should be his primary role on the team once Foster is gone.

Besides, I'd like to see us give Magnum Rolle another shot at making the team at backup PF.

McRoberts might not even be on the team past this season if the Pacers are able to land another PF.

Return to Indiana Pacers
