Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Most GSW fans actually like it. They dump Bells extra year and we could use a 3rd guard + he expires along with Barbosa giving us flexibility next year too
Old Rem and Don Nelson were against it but the rest were on board.
Calderon / Bayless / Bell
Derozan / Barbosa
Klezia / Weems / J.Wright
Bargnani / Davis / B.Wright
Biedrins / Johnson / Alabi
+ our pick & the Miami pick. Nice young group. GSW saves 13 million next season and 31 million overall

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

I would make that deal;
Bell and Barbo make for a nice package of expirings;
Wright in theory could be moved to a third team as we simply don't need the body at the four, but Peja + Reggie to get Beans, I am fine with that.

GSW saves 13 million dollars next year. Biedrins is averaging 6 and 9 in 27 minutes. Hes also only 25 the same age as Bargnani so he would fit with our core.
Not bad, though I think the Raps need to address their Wing problem. Don't need Brandon wright when we already have Ed Davis.

Orlando sends Earl Clark
Orlando receives R.Evans
Toronto sends Evans
Toronto gets Clark
Both players are expiring contracts.
Why Orlando?
The Magic get some depth at the PF/C position. Evans provides a lot of rebounding for a team that lacks size and rebounding depth. He will also do a lot of the dirty work on a team surrounded by high end players. His toughness and ohysicality will come in handy during the playoffs. Evans is set to return next month.
Why Toronto?
Low risk, high reward on a kid with some upside. Clark has talent, but has been unable to find a position and consistent floor time on contenders. Raps see if he can play the SF, so we can test him out to see what we want to do with him. He would easily be our most talented player at SF.

^^ the deal wouldn't work without Orlando using their TPE from trading Gortat... and I'm sure they could find better uses for it than a currently injured Reggie Evans. But if they wanted Reggie, sure why not. We get Clark and a 3.2 million TPE.

If you read the blurb in green, it mentions that trade exceptions were used here. Reggie's 5.08 million would get absorbed with the Gortat TPE (giving us a 5.08 million TPE), and then we use 1.9 million of that TPE (or the Bosh TPE) to get Clark. Net result is us ending up with Clark and a 3.2 million TPE.

You're right, my bad.
I still think Evans gives them the grit and rebounds to afford to give D12 a breather. Evans doesnt need the ball on offense, but he does create second chance opportunities due to orbs.

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
This is more of a typical off-season wishlist post, but I was playing around with what the raps can look like in 2012, and was wondering if others had opinions on how realistic some of these transactions are. With their salary in brackets, the team would look like:
Rubio (3)/Calderon (9.8)
Derozen (2.6)/Afflalo/MoPete
Afflalo (6.5)/Kleiza (4.6)/Kris Joseph (1)
Bargnani (9.25)/Amir (5.5)
Perkins (12.5)/Dorsey (1)/Alabi (1)
The transactions would be:
- Barbosa and Evans for MoPete, Collison, and 2012 OKC protected 1st (All contracts are expiring, and gives OKC more depth)
- On draft day, Bayless, Ed Davis, Tor 2011 1st (prolly 7-9 pick), 2012 OKC protected 1st for Rubio (may be more likely if minnesota wins the draft lottery and takes irving but this should be really great value for rubio imo, would obviously start with offering amir instead of ed and not including the future first, but it does seem like we'd need to overpay to get him)
- Kris Joseph is currently slated to go 29th with DraftExpress who we could pick up with the Miami pick
- Overspend on a defensive center, ~12.5mil/season for Perkins (that should be a million or two a season over what the celtics would probably offer. I doubt Gasol or Horford don't get matched with any offer they receive although we could offer max if we trade amir instead of ed. If we can't get Perkins, spend a little less and take a risk on someone like Oden)
- Spend the rest of the cap on a defensive wing, 6-7 mil/season for Afflalo (and hope they don't match. Or sign & trade for part of the TPE and a future pick)
That gives us a salary of $56.75 mil which I think is a conservative estimate of where the cap will be (this year's cap is just over $58mil). Then sign vet min players like MoPete to sit on the bench.
I think I erred on the side of giving too much, which reduced the amount of depth we could have, but overall I tried putting good defenders around bargs and derozen and I think that's a good, young defensive lineup.

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Just throwing some idea's out there to land the Raps some young talent moving forward.
I'm not necessarily saying these teams will agree to these trades but i"m just looking for some feedback to what you guys think about these deals and the players involved.
Trade 1:
To Washington-
Ed Davis
To Toronto-
Javale McGee
Washington separates two headcases and tries Blatche at center.
Raps get the athletic center they need to move Bargs to PF.
Trade 2:
To Chicago-
Leandro Barbosa
Sonny Weems
Joey Dorsey
To Toronto-
Omer Asik
Keith Bogans
CJ Watson
Chicago gets shooters and 2 expirings.
Raps get another tough, physical center in Asik and a decent PG. Raps buy out Bogans and he returns to Chicago.
Trade 3:
To Minnesota-
Jose Calderon
1st round pick(Miami)
To Toronto-
Corey Brewer
Johnny Flynn
Minny gets a true PG who is playing his best ball right now who may also help in getting Rubio to come to next season.
Raps get a desperately needed defensive stopper in Brewer who can also hit the 3 and a promising PG who can penetrate.
Trade 4:
To NY-
Peja Stojakovic
1st round pick(Toronto unprotected)
To Toronto-
Eddy Curry
Landry Fields
Roger Mason
NY is very high on Fields but its the price they pay to get a high draft pick to help them get Carmelo. They have also shown that they plan to keep Chandler who will start next to Melo if they get him. They still have a massive expiring in Peja who they can also use because of his shooting.
Toronto gets the perfect "do it all" player and cap relief.
Trade 5:
To Houston-
Linas Kleiza
To Toronto-
Courtney Lee
Lee doesn't get much playing time in Houston and now they have acquired Terrence Williams. Kleiza brings them a more physical player who can knock down the 3.
Lee fits perfect in Toronto with his d and ability to get to the rim and the free throw line.
Raps Roster:
C- McGee/Asik/Alabi
PF- Bargnani/Johnson/Evans
SF- Derozan/Brewer/Wright
SG- Fields/Lee/Mason
PG- Bayless/Flynn/Watson

Collison re-up'ed, so the deal doesn't work.
Also, Not a fan of the Rubio deal (give up to much).

I don't think we need to give up that much for Rubio. He has not played in NBA, so most likely a 5th - 10th pick should do it. Means we don't (shouldn't) have to give up Ed Davis, and at most add Miami pick to it.
I think BC will depend on the draft. If someone drops, and we can grab a good SF, then we will keep the pick, otherwise, trading both picks for good players instead of getting an average PBA player would make more sense.

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
heres my crazy idea. Dont know if OKC or DEN do it but well leave that up to you.
**** Has to happen after the proposed Melo deal ****
The Nuggets would be around 3 million over luxury tax roughly by my numbers. So heres my idea.
* it would be a complicated deal involving our trade exception.
To Toronto: Nene
To Denver: TE (11,360,000) + Miami 2010 1st Round Pick
Then
To Toronto: TE (5,880,000)
To Denver: Reggie Evans + Solomon Alabi
Why for Denver?:
Denver gets out of tax, Masai Ujiri gets his project big man that he loves in Solomon Alabi, gets another 1st round draft pick which the Nuggets like and save money. In total would save about 6 million in luxury tax, assuming Nene opts in next year which i think he will they would save another 11 million, making it 17 million in net savings.
the 2nd part of the deal is.
To Toronto: Jeff Green + Morris Peterson + Nenad Krstic
To Oklahoma City: Nene + Leandro Barbosa
* because Nene was traded into a trade exception he can be packaged right away i believe which makes this work for a number of reasons
Why for OKC?
add a legit center for the playoffs, one who can play against the Bynums of the world and helps them make a real playoff run. Barbosa adds that spark off the bench and they load up for a deep playoff run. This is a huge complicated deal, the deal works with Toronto sending out Nene + Barbosa in the 2nd part under the 1.25 + 100,000 rule of the NBA. The best part is. Barbosa + Nene expire next year when Westbrook and Harden are up for their big extensions. I figured if you lose Greens scoring you need to replace it, Barbosa does that, you get a legit force in the middle which theyve lacked for a while in Nene, so i like it for them but i can understand if people wont.
Why for Toronto:
They add 2 players that will help them make the playoffs. Green would be part of the core, Nenad Krstic is a legit center for Bargnani to play beside and wed probably make the 8th seed, if not we have a bright future.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Toronto Depth Chart:
Calderon / Bayless
Derozan / Weems / Peterson
Green / Klezia / Wright
Johnson / Davis / Dorsey
Bargnani / Kristic
i just love that team. Ideally what happens is Nets still make the playoffs over us and we end up drafting in our current position 8/9 and get a Brandon Knight.
- re-sign Green
- re-sign Weems
Knight / Bayless
Derozan / Weems
Green / Klezia
Davis / Johnson
Bargnani / Center (Calderon trade)
seems nice, no? I love it but that probably means DEN and OKC wouldnt do it but i tried to make it as realistic as possible

If we were able to land Nene, I'd keep him. A Nene/Bargs frontcourt could be pretty solid and would give us the legit size we need against big frontcourts in the league.

sebastian telfair. sebastian telfair will be got by toronto very soon.
News: Telfair did not play Sunday due to a coach's decision. His agent is trying to get Telfair traded or reach a buyout on his expiring contract so he can move to another team, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

so why would he come here? I thought Minny wanted to trade him to New York along with a Utah pick for Randolph. I'm fine with Jose/Jerryd for now, unless we're dumping longterm salary, there's no point bringing in Telfair. If we were to target Flynn from the Wolves, that's another thing because he's young and has potential (of course that would only make sense if Jose/Barbosa was also being moved)

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
what about this then.
Deal 1:
To Toronto: Jeff Green + Charlie Bell (absorbed through our TE in a 2 part deal)
To Oklahoma City: Andris Biedrins + Shane Battier + Miami 2010 1st Round Pick
To Golden State: Morris Peterson + Bj Mullens + Dj White
To Houston: Linas Klezia
Toronto gets an ideal fit at SF. Green also is young and would be great in our uptempo offense. Hes a great defender too.
Oklahoma City gets a young center that can rebound for them, and a defensive stopper in Battier for the playoffs. They also get more youth out of it with a Miami pick. Battier + Biedrins i believe make them a much better and deeper team.
Golden State gets expiring contracts for Bell + Biedrins which opens up 11 million in extra cap space. DJ and Mullens dont expire but they are young prospects that GSW can look at.
Houston sends Battier to a contender and does him some justice so he can finish out his career on a winning team. They also get under the luxury tax in this deal which is huge IMO.
what i would do next is.
Deal 2:
To Toronto: Tony Allen + Hasheem Thabeet
To Memphis: Julian Wright + Reggie Evans
why? Because we wouldnt need cap space because wed use it to re-sign Jeff Green. We get a young shot blocker and take a filler on him
Memphis dumps close to 9 million in salary to re-sign Gasol/Randolph/Mayo next year.
2010/2011 Depth Chart:
Calderon / Bayless / Bell
Derozan / Barbosa / Allen
Green / Weems
Johnson / Davis / Dorsey
Bargnani / Thabeet / Alabi
* Peja bought out
then if we wanna go all out youthful id do
Deal 3: (unrealistic all 3 happen but id do this deal if we got Green in the 1st trade)
To Toronto: Jonny Flynn + Utah 2011 1st Round Pick
To Minnesota: Jose Calderon + Toronto 2011 1st Round Pick (top 5 protected)
* reason being is after we get Green id think our chances at the playoffs are better and we would have SO much youth it would be nuts. So adding Flynn and losing a pick that iMO would be around 11-13 wouldnt be so bad to dump Calderons big contract for Flynns.
Flynn / Bayless / Bell
Derozan / Barbosa / Allen
Green / Weems
Johnson / Davis / Dorsey
Bargnani / Thabeet / Alabi
i just love this lineup. You add defense in Green + Thabeet + Allen. You add a shotblocker with potential, a young SF that currently is playing out of position and we make room for Weems in the rotation. Bell is an insurance PG that we sorely lack right now. I love it and i think its pretty realistic.
* note Flynn trade unrealistic but if all 3 happened we would be an exciting team.
next summer you draft the BPA and youd be a solid team thats young and has potential. Jeff Green playing SF, playing uptempo and being a higher priority in the offense i feel will explode in our offense. Hes a RFA so wed match any offer he gets so hes ours regardless and wed. I think its more complete, we move Barbosa for a younger player and i love this idea.
GSW fans said they want expiring for Biedrins, they dump Bell in this deal too
OKC gets their center that theyve lacked for so long and get a SF stopper off the bench to backup Durant which is great for the playoffs for them. Also a pick which IMO they get great value for Green
Houston again its about a) getting under the tax, B) putting Battier on a winning team
Memphis saves money to keep their most important players. Dont really need Thabeet and they could use depth at SF which Wright gives them.
Conley / Vasquez
Henry / Mayo
Gay / Young / Wright
Randolph / Arthur / Carroll
Gasol / Evans / Haddadi
* Peja bought out
then if we wanna go all out youthful id do
Deal 3: (unrealistic all 3 happen but id do this deal if we got Green in the 1st trade)

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

This one is a little boring but:
C. Butler/Ajinca for Peja (assuming he is healthy).
Also, Butler would be waived as he is gone for the yar.
Why for Dallas
Gives them a three pt specialist for the playoffs. Also BC's way of thanking Peja for eating some of his Trade kicker.
Why for Toronto
See above for thanking Peja. Also gives them a young C to check out this year. If not, he is an expiring contract.

Re: 2010 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
Bargs, Evans, Toronto 1st protected
For
Granger. Jones
Pacers get a pf to pair with Hibbert, an expiring and a first round pick.
Raps get a starting SF and a defensive minded guard.
Granger is injury prone and is regressing fast, so a buy low candidate. Pacers get good value for Granger and actually already have a team in place that could help Bargs flourish.
Personally I wouldnt do this deal, but Im sure alot of people on this board would. This trade does make sense for both teams though; fills a need.
