There's no word on whether the Maloofs were receptive to the plan, or what sort of interest (if any) Samueli would charge. His angle is that he wants an NBA tenant for the Honda Center, so one would assume he'd present something like this.

But $100 million is a fraction of the costs associated with a potential Kings relocation to Anaheim. The NBA's relocation fee is $30 million itself (see update), and territorial rights due to the Lakers and Clippers will be tens of millions of dollars apiece. The Maloofs also owe the city of Sacramento $68 million; the city's collateral is ARCO Arena Power Balance Pavilion, the surrounding land and a $25 million stake in the franchise. The Kings could move and continue to pay off the loan, but on top of lease payments to Samueli, it's another expense to consider.

I saw this on Yahoo! as well, hope this isn't true. Why would there need to be a third team in the L.A. area?!?!?!? and they would probably hate the Kings down there.

I can't imagine the Kings having even a decent sized fan base down there. I bet 90% of people in Anaheim are Lakers fan, if not more. Who's gonna jump ship to join the Kings bandwagon?

Eh, Anaheim is possible because LA county is just so darn big. I can see the Lakers/Clippers having more of a problem with it than the Warriors would have with the Kings moving to San Jose though.

The Maloofs are stupid if this goes down. They would get less fans in LA than they do here. LA fans are all bandwagon Jumpers. No offense to the "legit fans" in LA. Still hate you guys though.

There's no way in my mind that I could root for them while they're playing in LA (Anaheim).
On the other side of things. They may attract more free-agents because of Disneyland. :roll:

if they move to anaheim.. Lakers will be my first team or maybe one of the three texas triangle teams.. Kings will definitely be last for betraying Sacramento.. will wish them to lose every game.. and pray they be miserable for their entire life outside sacramento..

I think I'd be a Warriors fan...but I'm still not sure.

That's a really hard decision to make. But that would actually make since for me. I like The SF Giant, 49ers. And it's easier to travel to then LA. Plus they have a young/rebuilding team just like the kings. If I were to change a team (If the Kings move out of Nor-Cal) I'd probably root for the Warriors. But still.. it's just to hard to decide. I'm not sure if I could just start rooting for another team that easily. I really haven't been keeping up with the Warriors. Although I know the jest of things... The only reason I'd root for them Is because their closer and I love San Fransisco Teams. Freakin' Maloofs...

Edit: Honestly I don't think I'd root for any team... if the Kings are gone. Then I'm done with the NBA. I'll watch the Playoffs but that's about it. Plz, oh plz, Kevin Johnson/Maloofs. Getan arena built it Sac-Town. :pray:

I don't even care if is called the Power-Balance arena.

Not fair?? People are already deciding what their new favorite team will be. Fans who ditch there team in tough times is the definition of fairweather. Anyday now there will be a "what's your new favorite team" thread.

The players are not choosing to leave. I don't understand this betrayal, the Maloofs have been trying for years to get a new arena but they keep getting shot down. The Commish wants them to get a new arena there is nothing they can do right now. It is not like there is a choice to build in Sacramento right now or between the Anaheim.

Yeah, this is pretty much in the hands of the city now. If the Kings leave they will flourish with Cousins and Evans, and the Sacramento area has only one direction in which to point the finger of blame, themselves. The freaking commissioner pretty much made it clear what needs to be done, and if not...SEE YA!

Not trying to be over dramatic, but if the Kings do leave, expect just about every other big time entertainment act to do the same. Good luck getting concerts and other big time entertainment in 10 years, why? Because no corporate entity is going to touch that arena. With no backing to run the building and bring in shows you're screwed.

You can't really fault the Maloofs at this point if they were to move the franchise. They've done everything within their power and reason to try to keep the Kings in Sacramento. If the Kings leave, the onus is on the City of Sacramento.

My only question is why haven't option in Placer, El Dorado and other surrounding counties been explored more? Working in Sacramento County is like working backwards.

Sacramento is a freakin' HOLE!

I am born here and spent the better part opf 40 years here and let me tell you - IT SUCKS!!!

I'm still amazed that we ever convinced ANY pro league to come here - let alone STAY.

The Maloofs bought in when this franchise was the LAUGHINGSTOCK of the NBA and all of Pro sports. They put the money and desire and managerial talent behimd the franchise to give us a SHOT at being a contender. Try being a Nets or Clippers or Lions fan and see how it is to NEVER have a shot year in and year out.

For everybody to completely jump ship when they have been trying EVERYTHING possible to keep things together here and make this a viable franchise is just pathetic. How about getting out there and being loud about RIDICULING the jackoffs that live in this town and the larger area that are so full of their own personal little BS agendas that they can't see what they are doing is just another nail in the coffin of this cow-town.

Sacramento will NEVER be any kind of big time now. We had a SHOT, and the mortgage crisis has killed it. This has turned into a ghost town and none of this is the fault of the Maloofs. If anything we own them a debt of gratitude for giving us a chance.

First and foremost I do not see how you guys can feel that the Maloofs would be betraying Sacramento. They have done everything in their power to try and get an Arena built. The citizen of Sacramento have shot down the use of Public Money for building an Arena. They have stayed around way longer then most other Owners in the league. So, be glad that at least they have been trying to get something done.

In the end it is going to take a lot of money to move and unless a city is willing to front the money, I dont see the Maloofs moving until some of the debt is paid down.

Finally, the one saving grace that the city of Sacramento would have if the Kings left is the Oakland A's. Oakland is currently trying to work with Oakland/San Jose to get a new stadium and there has been a lot of road blocks so far. Sacramento has a stadium that can be expanded and used for the A's. Sacramento is also a much bigger baseball town than basketball town.

its not about being fairweather fans.. the same fans stood by and are standing by even though the team is lower 5 since last 3 seasons.. most people here said they will support other team or stop supporting the kings when they leave sacramento.. so its more being loyal to the city than being a fair weather fan..

fair weather fans don't stand by the team/city when :
- team goes from consistent top 5 to consistent bottom 5.. still the fans stuck to the team..
- the owners/GM rip apart a title contender and then just make financial moves without adding talent. most league GMs make use of expiring to get some talent.. and we let Kenny Thomas's contract to expire.. still the fans stuck to the team..
- the owners are in so much debt and they are slowly losing their other business.. this is not promising future for the franchise.. still the fans stuck to the team..
- no new arena.. talks of them leaving the city.. still the fans stuck to the team..

Sonics were a more storied franchise before than left Seattle.. the previous owners/management were not as thrifty and debt-ridden as maloofs.. Still most Sonics fans hate OKC..
