 what a strange ass article. Just starts slobbering Blake Griffin out of nowhere, in the middle of a column about Melo's choices.

He'd be a great backup for us.

So a potential superstar point guard would be a backup? This board done lost they mind.

Simmons made several good points until the second half of the column got deleted and replaced by a Blake Griffin love letter.

That's not totally true. He admits that the best situation for Melo is to go to NY he's just saying that the Clippers would be better than the Nets, and he's 100% right on that cause in his proposed trade Griffin stays a clipper. While that's hard to see they still do have nice pieces liek aminuand T'Wolves 1st rounder (possibly a top 5 pick).

"How could Anthony do better than joining forces with Griffin and Gordon, short of somehow landing on the Knicks; joining forces with Amare Stoudemire; battling Miami, Chicago and Boston every spring; pursuing the first Knicks championship in four decades; and becoming a New York icon if it happens?"

But I think the best quote is what he says Melo can do with the $15-20 million he'd save by signign the extension with the nets insteado f waiting out free agency for the Knicks.

"Those are the best two options. Period. Which makes it so depressing that Carmelo might sell himself short, sign off on New Jersey and compromise a chunk of his basketball prime for an extra $15 million or so. The good news: That extra money could yield him a mansion in the Hamptons. The bad news: He would be spending every June in it."

Haha He'll be out there for Memorial day weekend with LaLa every year...Brook Lopez can come too.

That column read as if it was very well written prior to him going to last night's Heat Clippers game and, after the Clips won, he came home hammered and just butchered the middle of it to add some Blake talk. It just didn't transition well. Could've been a masterpiece but still--a lot of the points regarding Melo were good.

Well in all fairness, AR is a "potential" superstar forward. Potential doesn't always equate to a great player.

But if there's no Melo deal, isn't AR (who's still young) better then a 20 something pick in the upcoming weak draft?

What a surprise from Simmons! He has Clippers season tickets and they have clearly become his second favorite team...No wonder he has a love fest with Blake Griffin and is hoping Melo somehow goes there...He's almost trying to will them into significance compared to the Lakers

At this point Anthony Randolph is a lot like Eddy Curry -- nothing more than a trade asset. Let's just hope Donnie makes the most of the assets he's got.

On paper, this seems like a very talented young squad:

Randolph
Beasley
Wes Johnson

Here is more data on the picks:

This one could get dealt since they will almost certainly keep it.
Clippers get Minn pick unprotected in 2012
If Minn trades this, it will be a high pick indeed & worth a lot to Denver

Minnesota's own 2011 1st round pick to the L.A. Clippers ( top 10 protected in 2011, and unprotected in the 2012 Draft). [LA Clippers - Minnesota, 8/12/2005]

I think this is the most likely pick that NY gets:

Memphis' own 2011 1st round pick to Minnesota via Utah (top 14 protected in 2011, top 12 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013, top 9 protected in 2014, top 9 protected in the 2015 Draft). If Minnesota does not receive a 1st round pick from Memphis by the 2015 Draft, then Minnesota will receive cash considerations from Memphis. [Memphis - Utah, 2/18/2010 and then Minnesota - Utah, 7/13/2010]

This pick is OK but certainly not as high as Denver would want for Carmelo:

Utah’s own 2011 first round pick to Minnesota (top 16 protected in the 2011 draft, top 14 protected in 2012 and top 12 protected in the 2013 draft). If Utah has not conveyed a first round pick to Minnesota by 2014 and also if Utah’s own 2014 first round is not within the top 9 picks, then Minnesota will have the option to swap their own 2014 first round pick with Utah’s own 2014 first round pick. If Minnesota does not receive a first round pick by the 2013 draft and also does not swap 2014 first round picks with Utah, then Minnesota will receive Utah’s own 2014 second round pick. [Minnesota - Utah, 7/13/2010]
The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

I won't comment on the Clippers part, but Simmons is right about going to Nets is a career suicide.

I hope donnie isnt drinking the cool aid, yes we're wining and the team has great chemistry but we are not going far in playoff let alone contend. We need melo some one who can create their own shot. I know we need a center but the centers that are avaliable are decent, you dont pass on a superstar to get a "decent" player. You can always find a decent center.

I dont want to trade chandler or fields but for a star like melo you have too, fields is a great ROLL PLAYER but thats all he is.. A role player.

I havent seen AR do anything to label him a "jerk"

Funny thing is he's a front running Clippers fan. Dude flip-slops between them and Boston like a dime trick. He got married moved out to L.A. and jumped on the bandwagon until Boston made the trade for K.G. he was slobbin hard on the Clippers when they made the playoffs in 2005-2006 season. I don't see how anyone takes him seriously.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Minnesota can trade that pick until the picked owed the Clippers is sent on. Isn't there a rule against trading two consecutive picks or does that not apply when Minny has other picks this year? These CBA rules get confusing.

I agree that the MEM pick is the most likely pick dealt.

The proposed three-team trade that would have sent Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey is "not dead, but dormant," sources tell ESPN's Chris Broussard.
