Insanity. Cavs want a pick for taking Wallace off our hands

The Charlotte Bobcats have discussed a trade to send forward Gerald Wallace(notes) to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers would use their trade exception to acquire Wallace, but have also pushed for a lottery-protected first-round pick for them to take on the two years and $22 million left on Wallace’s contract through the 2012-13 season, the source said.

INSANITY!!!!!
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

It sucks that the bobcats are cash strapped, but you really need wallace on your team.

This is the kind of thing that would lose a TON of fans for the team, and is penny wise and pound foolish. Trading your most popular player and first all-star to get nothing in return (let alone a first rounder!!!) because you don't think you can pay him? Would hamstring our future, and if Jordan was going to nickel and dime us, he should have let Postolos buy the team. He shouldn't be taking lessons from Jerry Richardson on how to run a franchise.

Indeed, when I read this I just laughed out loud, and then I thought....oh crap! That sounds just like the kind of desperation move Jordan would make on the cheap.

Now, reality is we'd never GIVE UP a 1st round pick and our all-star for cap space. So the Cav's can take that turd and stick it back down their pie hole.

That sort of trade (Wallace for the exception) is one you make if the following conditions apply:
1. You are blowing up the team, and...
2. You cannot get any real value back for Crash via a player and cap space, and...
3. It's the last, best deal in a sad strategy called giving up.

Still, per Wojo we've been shopping Wallace for several weeks. If we are to deal him I would expect much more in return than this pile...
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

And realistically, why do the cavs make this move? I guess they want to use the TPE, but wouldn't you think they'd want to full on tank? I would actually make the deal, provided we get back someone like Jamario Moon (a cheap expiring), just so we could say we got someone back for him. I understand that we need Hendo to get regular minutes, and I'm fine dealing Crash to make that happen, but under no circumstances should we have to throw a pick in, and I don't think fans would accept dealing him to avoid paying his contract when Jordan bought the team less than a year ago.

i dont even know why the cavs would do this wallace is not going to make them better he is not that type of player....he is more of a take you over the hump type guy.....and this deal is just awful if the cats waited another season wallace becomes a sweet sweet expiring

LOL, the sad part is these are the types of deals this organization makes. We are the farming team of the NBA. At least when the Hornets did this they got better in return and NEVER gave up picks or future valuable assets.

Here, take our best player AND a first round pick (so you can have two possibly stars). In exchange, we will take shall take DUST!

Can we make a deal for Elton Brand now? How about this, we'll send them DJ, Jax, 2 future first round picks (I guess 2017 when we have one again?) and also take back Dalembert. In addition, we will give them 40% control of the organization.

By the way, this is me officially daring Jordan to make this move so I can quit being a Bobcats fan.

Are the Bobs really hurting that badly financially for Jordan to make such a move? I am amazed such a deal is even being talked about, with out without the pick. As a Cavs fan, I take the deal either way. I think Wallace would be a nice trade chip going forward.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

You mean you'd take arguably the most reasonable all-star contract in the NBA plus a first round pick for nothing? I know it's a tough choice and all.

Heh, if a Cavs fan posted something like this on the trade board he'd be laughed at. Ladies and gentlemen, your Jordan managed Charlotte Bobcats!

I agree with this. If this trade or a similar trade goes down, I will quit.

Obviously there is not a lot of meat to this rumor. Firstly, it makes no sense. Secondly, we'd be given them a 2014 first round pick at the earliest.

One can't argue we need an upgrade at Center and if there are no deal out there where we move Crash for an upgrade this year. We could use the money in the off-season barring a lockout.

This move could be somewhat genius if there is a lockout...

Regardless I won't stop being a fan

Calm down. This is a good leak. Now we likely get some real offers and know what is Crash's market value. That can't hurt.

Let's lay off the panic button shall we? Just because something is discussed doesn't mean that the idea was ours. Its like if I am selling my car. I talk to you and you offer me peanuts. When you talk to your friend, you say your having a discussion about buying a car for peanuts. That doesn't mean that I actually like that offer and plan to accept it.

I agree with everyone that if this does go down its a tragedy but lets not go all chicken little yet.

Could there be a reason why MJ would want a trade exception apart from saving money?

Denver has been pushing hard to cut salary as part of the Melo trade.
Maybe MJ was going to use a TE to get involved. Maybe grab Nene or something.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea.

As far as value goes, I see this EXACTLY the same as the trade that netted us JRich. We had all that cap space and the GSW's were looking to cut salary. In that trade it COST us the 8th overall pick to acquire JRich and the GSW's 2nd round pick. We didn't get JRich and THEIR 1st round draft pick.

Using that as a yard stick then the Cavs are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off.

The trade should be:

Crash and our 2nd round pick
for
Their top 5 protected 1st round pick

I don't believe that MJ would do this just to save money. I'm convinced he thinks he can get something with a TE. Denver would be the obvious target.
