maybe the nets plan is to hold melo hostage. if they trade for him without an extension they will force him to choose them or free agency. maybe they think he won't risk the money and will be forced to extend with them.

Making that trade without a signed extension would be one the dumbest moves ever by a sports franchise.

it's a huge and stupid gamble. if it doesn't work they will be bad for a long time but maybe they're that brazen.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 9] - OJ to DEN, Melo to NY? Pg 7
I am getting the impression that Donnie just wants this whole Melo thing to be over. This is so much like the Lebron drama now. With all the same characters. I do strongly feel just like with Lebron this summer, as soon as this Melo ball is dropped, Donnie will move quickly to plan B and it will be quick strike deal that quite frankly I think is already in place.
This Melo stuff is becoming really annoying and I want the guy badly! BUT it's almost as if Lebron and his crew are trying to get back in good graces with Jay Z & Pokie-Man for being disingenuous during the whole charade of meeting teams this summer.
It also really reminds me of that off-season that David Falk and Michael Jordan conspired (I BELIEVE) to get Xavier McDaniel the hell out of NY and up to Boston because X with the Knicks was a HUGE problem in the playoffs vs Chicago that season before
McDaniel, Oak, Mason and Ewing was a little too much for scary ass Scottie Pippen. I am feeling the same way now with Melo, if Melo were to come to NY, they would be in direct head to head competition with their biggest client in the East, Ledrama and I am talking about RIGHT NOW!
I firmly believe Maverick, Wes and Rose are doing everything possible to keep Melo out of NY to have as few obstacles as possible in Lebron's way this season. Cause Melo and Amare would be a problem come playoff time THIS SEASON for a team like Miami. That is just how I see it!
So I just want this settled once and for all! As I am sure is the same position Donnie has right about now too!

Agents are corrupting the league.
Players lack ballz.
I will move on but I'm pretty disgusted.

So Leon Rose also represents Ty Lawson.
So in one trade, he a) gets Rip out of Detroit, b) gets his 4-5% cut from Melo's extension, and c) opens up playing time/starting gig for his other client. Oh and d) gives his favorite client, LeBron, an easier path to the Finals.
He's basically serving the interest of everyone BUT Melo, in a Melo trade.
Do the right thing and fire him, Melo.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 9] - OJ to DEN, Melo to NY? Pg 7
I can most definitely see the Nets trading for Melo even WITHOUT an extension. Its blatantly obvious they can't afford Melo to land in NY. If they don't pull the trigger on a deal by the deadline, Denver would likely fall back on a Knicks package to get something rather than nothing in the offseason. If Denver doesn't cave, Melo walks to the Knicks via FA.
The Nets almost HAVE to take the chance regardless. They'll never be revelant if the Knicks are competing annually with both STAT and Melo. I can most definitely see Prokhorov taking the gamble.

It's 90 to 95 per cent done, a source tells Fred Kerber. So optimistic are the Nets, he writes, that the team has a schedule that it hopes will put Carmelo Anthony in a Nets uniform vs. the Pistons next Friday.
"The deal could be agreed to principle before Tuesday, then finalized later next week. If completed, Anthony is expected to meet with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov on Tuesday or Wednesday," he writes. "One person directly involved in the trade scenario suggested that if all goes as planned and the deal is finalized, Anthony could play his first game for the Nets next Friday against the Pistons."

Either way, if this report is true, I don't like the idea of Melo meeting with Prok next week. If he still says no to an extension, all of the blame for the trade failing would fall on him. Not on Denver, who refuses to talk to NY. Not on NJ, who still won't have a good team. And not on his agent, who is not doing what is in his client's best interest. If Melo backs out, he ends up looking really bad, and like another spoiled athlete screwing everything up for everyone. That's a huge benefit of leaking news like this -- it's an attempt to pressure Melo into agreeing to re-sign.
At this point, either Melo is letting others pressure him into something he doesn't want to do, or he really does only care about the money. He has all the leverage here to force a trade to NY, but still might end up caving.

Well true but not true about Melo. Because Melo os going to a bigger market and with the "HOPE" of one daying playing with cp3 and dhoward while he builds his name in nyc. so in the end none of his players really lose.

Newark is not a bigger market than Denver. Nets cannot afford CP3 or Howard once they trade for Rip.

Nah Melo loses. Nets will have to buy fans. They won't even sell out a game in their inaugural season. Their gonna have to donate their asses off and just fix up BK if they want fans because this is KNicks country and it will always be Knicks country.

I want Melo to go to NJ already. I'm tired of these cocky melo nut huggers that claimed that the Nets had absolutely no shot. This yankee mentality has really messed up some people , seriously.

Remember the Nets said that they wouldn't even have to meet with Melo? False bravado. They are trying to make this a foregone conclusion but that doesn't mean it is.
I have my doubts about Melo but I don't put any stock in the Nets' confidence. They are just spinning.

NYK0605 wrote:This is getting really **** annoying. I feel like this will never end.
Why can't Melo just save DEN/NJ thei time and say "doesn't matter what the trade is, i ain going to NJ"...Why can't he say this?
IMHO its because the trade deadline is too far away and he doesn't want to be viewed as somewhat of a "bad guy"....yet. I think his angle (and DEN's) is attrition and in the eventuality of Denver having to deal with NYK.
He knows its TOO early to get "there" and figures that DEN will cave before he does...so if he rejects the Nets trade then he can technically say "look, I didn't say either way where I wanted to land but I did look at a few factors and the Nets didn't hit enough of the requirements me and my family wanted in our next destination. The Nets have good coaching and a great owner but I felt it wasn't the right FIT for me and my family". No need to say this publicly until it gets to the point where Kroenke & Uriji come to him with an actual agreed trade, which has not happened yet. Melo is playing this perfectly IF he doesn't want to go to NJ and NYK is indeed his top choice.
Now, if Felton somehow makes the all-star team (via coach's selection) then this whole thing will be a wrap. Melo's public perception will not be tarnished anywhere except in Denver. He can say, NYK has 2 all-stars and is in the market he wants to be in....facts & actuality NJ cannot contend with; they only have a plan and hope for that situation while NYK has it already.
And another point to this CAA and Chris Paul thing is that Melo knows that if he comes to NYK then CP3 will come if NYK has the cap room; which IMHO has a better chance in happening in NYK than in NJ per the extra money they have to take back even get Melo. You bet CAA would be singing a different tune about the Knicks and delivering CP3 to this market. I think Donnie will find a way to clear enough space for CP3 if he gets Melo on board. Amar'e and Melo can inform DW to the degree of acquiring CP3, meaning how aggressive we need to be in clearing salary/cap room.
To be honest, I just can't see Melo going to NJ with a signed extension after all of this and I can't see what Proko could tell or convince Melo in doing so. If they bring up CP3 then Melo can bring up that "toast" at his wedding...meaning that if I go to the Knicks + Amar'e I know I WILL be with CP3 eventually.
Is this his fallback plan? Does he have an interest there?
Bottom-line - If Melo takes the money then NYK dodges a bullet, we need here cats here that impose their will.
Revolution starts in the mind...

Ok so there a million articles pointing Melo to NJ. Nobody believes it.
and theres 1 article that says Den will trade him to NY if info is leaked. And everyone believes it.
