Yeahhhhhh aaaaand as business people, they're hired for their business judgment lol. Their business reputation will be damaged if they recommend a business decision to Melo that leads him to a result that is not what he wants, and he ends up with the same business contract he could have had in NY, his first choice.
They'll look stupid. Agents are not supposed to be stupid. Business and stupid don't go together

I believe Sheridan was on point all along....Melo wants to come to The Knicks and his "handlers" are looking to cash in as quickly as possible. The moment of the truth will arrive sooner rather than later and Melo will have to speak up or be played!
I will bet that IF Melo winds up in New Jersey, that at some point BEFORE next season, he will cut ties with CAA and Leon Rose soon after, extension or not!
If he goes to the Nets, I can't wait to see that he would have been Grandfathered in or that all salaries (including his extension) are cut.
I guarantee that one or the other happens.
The NBA is not going to allow an inequitable result like Rudy Gay making $17M a year while Melo (better than and far senior to Gay) is making $15M a year or something like that. Never going to happen. They won't have it.
I want Melo in NY, but that embarrassment to Leon Rose will almost be more fun to watch unfold ... Melo stuck in New Jersey for pretty much the same contract he could have had on the Knicks.
Major egg on the face.
Hmmm, the same NBA that didnt let Eddy Curry or Alan Houston make more money then players better then them ?
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

IM sure Melo has been waiting all this time to be a free agent to give it all up for the NEts. This makes me sick

Don't be sick. If you believe Melo's going to the Nets then you have to believe that he doesn't want to win a championship within the next 4 years...

They dont know that. Just like you and I dont know that. The future is uncertain no matter what your beliefs are.
Uncertainty vs Security hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Also one of the battles in the upcoming process is salary rollbacks. players with guaranteed contracts can fight against having there salarys reduced, while players without contracts will not have any ground to stand on. they were warned years ago in advance, hence the big FA this past summer.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Huh, care to explain yourself?
Michael Jordan was Grandfathered in during a CBA changeover and I guarantee that is what they do with Melo UNLESS they slash all contracts.

There's no certainty that the Knicks will sign Melo either if Melo decides NOT to sign with New Jersey. Right now, the Knicks have the space to do it. But free agency isn't for another few months. Anything can happen between now and then.

I don't buy all this pressure crap. I don't buy any of the LALA pressuring stuff (some still do even though Melo publicly proclaimed his balls) I think that he has common sense. That is what this really boils down to...COMMON SENSE.
Despite what his wife wants/demands, his agent/PR person/friends/teamates------- Carmelo has to realize that RIP, Billups, Brook isn't the best 4 man team in the NBA, and you can make a case with them aging that it isn't enough to get them in the playoffs They have no shot this year, for sure. Next year, they will be all a year older and with no salary cap flexibility (especially if CBillups gets an extension).
So common sense tells me that the Nets situation isn't the brightest one. Besides living in NJ (near the NY area), but if I am Carmelo (do I want to spend my prime years in a potential LOSING situation?????????????????????

There's no guarantee in an extension that can be slashed. So we can toss that out.
WADR the reason you want to reduce everything to money is because you don't seem capable of making a complex argument. In point of fact, an athlete has his money and he has his reputation and his legacy. Melo on a second rate team, never winning a title, is not a good result for your client, smart guy.
So tell me this: You feel there is no chance, none at all, that Melo will agree to a contract with the Nets now only to find out after the new CBA that he could have had the same money or nearly the same money with the Knicks?
You say it's all about security, so answer the above question.

Also for the record it wouldnt be the NBA fighting for players salaries, it would be the players union anyway. The NBA would be ecstatic to pay Melo nothing compared to Rudy Gay.

Anyone else feel on the fence about what's going to happen? I feel like he definitely could end up signing with the Nets because 1) I'm a Knicks fan and am used to being disappointed and 2) because how much power these agents really have and the fact that money truly does talk. But I definitely also feel that there's so many signs that have him coming to the Knicks....there's almost too many reasons to list but all you have to do is browse through these threads and you'll easily get the point.

I think its the same group of clowns running the same circus. Those same clowns were pushing James to Chicago. In the end he did what he wanted all along. Play with his sand box buddies.

Never underestimate the strength of knowledge.
Bring back the physical game and send the softies home.

Always let the other guy cut off your balls, never do it yourself in anticipation of having it cut. It could turn out either way. I think OBVIOUSLY the Knicks are better with him than without him. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if they don't get him. Unlike the Nets, the Knicks will have talent, youth, assets (beyond what Denver thinks is an asset) and more flexibility to improve going forward.

ORLY? The NBA has a large interest in keeping its superstars happy and NOT subjecting one superstar to an unfair penalty. A logical, equitable salary structure is certainly in the league's interest. It keeps the integrity of the system, keeps a star player from being singled out for what would essentially be punitive treatment, and wards off future labor problems.
So you're just wrong. REALLY wrong.
Again, WADR, your analysis is simplistic and unimpressive.

I'd love to have him on NY, but I dont want to break up what is shaping up to be a real good core to get him. I'd prefer he just play it out and come on board in the summer, but I also know that is alot of dough to leave on the table...LOL
A man has to do what a man has to do...I just wish he'd come do it in MSG! But I trust Donnie, I just do!
Don't raise your voice, improve your argument
