Here are the facts as they are presently:

1. The consensus of NBA writers around the country is that Melo will be traded to the Nets next week.
2. Alan Hahn has reported that the Nets + extension are his choice 1B if he can't get the Knicks.
3. Melo's agents have been pushing the trade.
4. Melo has admitted that he thinks about going home to Brooklyn and opening the new arena.
5. Chauncey Billups knows he might be going to New Jersey, despite the fact that Melo could have told him he won't sign the extension which would nix any trade.
6. Prokorhov and Jay Z are going to put on the hard sell and convince Melo that he could become a billionaire by being the first Brooklyn hometown sports hero since Jackie Robinsion.
7. Donnie Walsh has stated time and time again that he will not blow up the team to get Melo, which would be necessary with no draft picks and an extremely hostile trade partner.

8. Chris Sheridan, who was predicting LeBron to the Knicks all day July 8, 2010, despite overwhelming sentiment to the contrary, says Melo will only sign with the Knicks.

Draw your own conclusions. Some of you guys are probably pretty attached to Carmelo Anthony at this point, the realization of reality is going to be hard.

How about ... Melo just came out and said that he has never thought about the Nets as a realistic possibility WHICH CONFIRMS what Sheridan said and what the several other reporters have said since then to also support Sheridan's claim: That Melo has never been "on board" with the Nets as some Nets beat writers said and were told by the Nets.

Don't you guys see what's going on. Carmelo is playing the game. He's trying his best to help Denver. This way if Denver trades him to NY Carmelo can talk about how he really gave it so thought Blah Blah but ultimately he could not sign an extension with the Nets because they were not ready to contend in the very near future. I think Denver already knows that it's Knicks or they lose Carmelo for nothing...

excuse me but this is ridiculous. why would he try to help Denver at the expense of the team he will be playing for? hmmmm?

Anthony said he was surprised when the Nets emerged as possible trade partners with the Nuggets.

"I [had] never really thought about the New Jersey Nets," he said, before allowing that he has subsequently considered the possibility.

The Nets emerged as trade partners back in Sept. Then again in Dec. And Jan.

This feels a lot like the Knicks pitching NY to LeBron. We were hyped the conversation was happening only to get gut punched. Granted the Stoudamire acquisition took the sting away but this late in the game Walsh is finally having a conversation with Leon Rose doesn't make me confident. I expect Walsh quotes very soon that Melo never came up in the conversation with Rose.

Just because he never thought of it doesn't mean he will sign there. He probably never thought of the idea of being forced into a trade there.

Why would Melo sign with a team that basically failed with Vince Carter, Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson? which is basically no different to this deal.

Hes all about the money people, why do you think he wants to sign an extension before the CBA? And why do you think hes even considering the Nets?

He has said he needs to "be sold" on the nets to go there. Pretty much means that he wants the money but dosent want to play there if they suck.

Talk about the trade chatter effecting the Nuggets? is anyone watching the Knick game right now. There Shooting 30 Percent from the Field and i think chandler is 1-10 or something like that. It may be effecting us.

It's no coincidence- as the Melo talk intensified recently- Fields and Chandler's play has been off... Denver needs to resolves things asap...

OMFG...you can't be serious! Why in the blue freak would we try to get that bum Harrington back after we ditched his lame arse!?! And then why would we trade Curry's contract which is almost like having gold, the 3rd best rookie this season AND a solid contributor in Chandler for someone who's leaving regardless?

If anyone we'd take just for the sake of taking a contract it'd be birdman or maybe Nene. We could knock out two birds with one stone

Some players need time, and playing for that team isn't the best situation for a young rookie. Lopez has really regressed since his rookie year. I actually thought the dude could be the next Duncan at one time....
