How good was Jordan as baseball player?

Post#1 » by lorak » Sat Jan 15, 2011 9:48 pm

I'm watching ESPN film "30 for 30: Jordan rides the Bulls" and I wonder how good as baseball player was Michael Jordan? I don't know nothing about baseball, never saw a baseball game, don't know rules, and the only player I know is Babe Ruth, so it would be nice if someone compare Jordan-baseball player to some basketball players.

Not very good. But I found it interesting that his manager was Terry Francona and hes now the manager of the Red Sox.

Every bit as good as he was at basketball. So 'how god was he'? He was god-like.

At 6'6 tall he had a hugh strike zone. He had a hard enough time against minor league pitchers. Pro pitchers would have picked him apart like childs play.

He was the equivalent of some random bench warmer in the D league.

Well, he was older than most minor leaguers and hadn't played baseball since he was a teenager. So...he wasn't good. He could have been, of course, had he gone with baseball rather than football, but I don't think he's sweating that choice.

An equivalent? A guy who doesn't get drafted in the draft, but makes a d-league team and shoots about 20% from the field.

The thing with baseball is that it's such a skills oriented game that even the best athletes can easily flame out without even getting close to the majors.

Can any of the older people share some of the reactions people had to Jordan leaving basketball to try his hand at baseball?

I was old enough to remember and it was embarrassing for Jordan, heck I even felt embarrassed for him. Only reason he was playing with the Barons was because he was Michael Jordan, otherwise he could barely be a ball boy.

Not even.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
