Interest in Kaman?

Post#1 » by Afrolicious » Sat Jan 15, 2011 3:31 pm

Via Wiretap story... I have never been a Kaman fan, can't stand the guy. But would he be a valuable asset on rebuilding this team? I could picture him being a legit 6th man backing up Darko and Love, and actually positively contributing when one of those gets in foul trouble. At least with Kaman, there wouldn't be a complete offensive shutdown like there is when Koufos and Pekovic are on the court.

Clips are asking for a small forward... Thoughts on a Kaman for Webster+Koufos type deal? With that, we could also offer Brewer and extension if he keeps his play up. Not sure if Kaman's contract (or play) is worth it, but just a thought.

Not a fan of Kaman. He's always injured and a proven loser.

Ugh...not sure about this one. Kaman for Webster and Koufos is a good enough deal that you do it whether or not you need Kaman, but my guess is that he'll cost more than that. If your goal is play him as a backup C, 12M a year for a backup C is a tough pill to swallow.

I don't think he has much more value.

I am not sure it is fair to call a career Clipper a proven loser. He was a major part of that one team that was able to make the playoffs and win a series (pretty major accomplishment for that franchise). He is not (and shouldnt be considered) the type of player who can be leaned on to decide the fate of a franchise. Its not like he was an Iverson, Vince Carter (or whoever) type who was dubbed a franchise player only to prove himself as nothing more than a losing player. If he is held in proper regards I don't believe the label of proven loser fits him at this point in time.

This bugs me so much,

Iverson is a former MVP who carried a team to the finals one year (albeit in the weak east) and a player who got his team to the conference finals in Carter.

If they are a losing player then KG is one too while he played here.

IF Kaman had a injury free or a minimal injury history then I'd love him to come to Target center. Good rebounder, shot blocks and I like him offensively. Though, unfortunately his career has been blightened by injury and he's just a no-go for me. Shame though because I do like him.

Sorry, no. You can't do much on the injury list to help your team.

Why would Clippers ask so much for a small forward in the first place when they have a promising guy called Aminu... Even though he is not in the spotlight he might develop into something special.

A lot of red flags with him.

First, he's on a contract which he's due just a little over 11 mil this yr, little over 12 mil next yr. There goes our flexibility on a position where we are solid at for now & we still need to find a star/borderline star SG. It's not like C is an issue with the team. Sure we could upgrade in the future but why right now, especially on a guy who in my opinion will not stick around, may demand more money, and possibly be past his prime.

Second, not sure how Darko will take it. It seems we are dedicated to him for being our future starter & have invested a lot of time/development in him. Getting Kaman could bring Darko's confidence meter down to a whole new low & may want to leave when his contract is up. Not to mention possibly ruining the chemistry.

Third, we probably do have the assets to acquire him. Depends on the asking price. I think he would be a great C off the bench, a 6th man as mentioned already, but with his contract, no thank you.

Kaman has sucked whenever he's played next to other good big men. It happened with Brand, it's happening now with Griffin and it will probably happen with Love, so pass.

Kaman is a stat padder. Look at some advanced numbers of him, he's always one of the most harmful players on his team. Plus he makes way too much money to play 60 games a year with no defense.

We really aren't getting killed down low guys (although lets see tonight). We have more need back court.
either way, stop gap measures really aren't necessary for a team 10-30 (the ships going down this season boys, no matter how much bed sheet you stuff into the leaks, just grab your valuables and start swimming to shore).

Stay on the look out for a young (defensive minded?) ball moving SG (beasley is our go to on the wing anyway). That way Wes Johnson can be our primary scorer off the bench (ideal role)

Blake Griffin and Aminu hates each other and got to too many altercations (verbally) from the start of the season.

Aminu can play defense though. If we can pry Kaman and Aminu, i'd jump on that and we'll just have to give them some of our players to make salaries match (even though they don't have to match as we are below luxury, but Kaman's contract cost too much)

Kaman's younger than I thought, I guess it's the balding hair, but the Clippers will be lucky to get much for him with his contract and injury history.
