Sacto Kings 2011 PreDraft Discussion

Post#1 » by RoyalCourtJestr » Sat Jan 1, 2011 8:42 am

Yeah, it's early, but heck, we've taken over the other topics enough.

Kyrie Irving is my favorite, even if he's been injured. I think if he works out, he'll still be a top 5 and for sure will come out, but I also tink Brandon Knight is getting heavily underrated.

I'll put in a good word for my favorite college player so far Terrence Jones. Imo he's been the most complete player so far; excellent defense, good passing, a nice ability to find ways to score, and a really great rebounder (nine a game I think). His only real weak point right now is his shot from range but of course you'd expect that to improve over time.

Ehh, too early for me to discuss this topic. I'd rather watch a few more college games before I have my final opinion. I've always liked Brandon Knight. Although, he's been a little disappointing this season. I think he needs to stay another year or two in college unless his game improves. Kyrie Irving is playing great. It's unfortunate about his injuries. I think he's a top 5 prospect.. especially if he can come back strong and help lead Duke to another championship.

We get the number overall pick pending any major moves Kyrie irving is my guy. He's our best bet for next year if we get the first overall pick because of his unselfish play, yet still very effective scoring the basketball. He gets to the line well and will push the ball nicely for the Kings. He's the ideal and perfect fit for us as our franchise point guard.

tyreke evans / brandon knight, backcourt

tyreke is good in attacking the basket while knight can shoot from 3's

knight is the youngest freshmen on his batch, hes same age as jrue holiday as freshman in college. holiday put 8pts 4reb 4ast on his freshman year in college while knight average 18 pts 4 reb 4 ast so far, hes getting better, for sure his stats will increase.

Oh God. Already?!

Sigh, well if I had to make a pick I would like to see us land Harrison Barnes. The kid can play even though he hasn't shown that much this year. He is an excellent leader on the court and he's a smart guy off of it. I wouldn't mind taking a PG like Irving, Selby or Knight but Terrence Jones could be a nice addition as well.

College season is going strong, might as well discuss while notes can be taken directly. We're going to be in the top 5 of this draft too, might as well see what could be waiting at the end of the suckage.

Hahaha, Hakim Warrick or Kevin Garnett. I'd never use the 1st pick on a guy that could be either or.

I think John Hensen is a lot more like a former UNC player, Brandon Wright. Same questions, same type of body, same type of boom but major bust potential.

I'd take T. Jones over H. Barnes if I were the Kings, but I definitely agree that Irving should be our number choice whether we have the first pick or not. Though I think if we don't have the first overall pick then we don't get Irving.

this is my mock draft so far

If we get the number one overall pick Irving is the guy for me, and there's no way he will fall to 5th.

-Terrence Jones will be a Top five pick probably even top 3.

-Brandon Knight is a lottery pick.

-Alec Burks at 24 is laughable, as is Honeycutt at 25.

Those are just a few things that stood out to me.

Said it about Cousins last year, saying it about Terrence Jones now. There is no way by talent alone that he should slip past # 2. If Irving stays out the rest of the year and doesn't declare, he's got to be #1.

GMac

Do you think Demetri McCamey is a legitimate 1st round pick? Who do you compare his game to?
Chad Ford (1:57 PM)

For sure. Maybe lottery. A poor man's Deron Williams.

If the kings don't end up with a top 1-3 pick I would personally like to see us take one of the bigs that would be available there that could be high potential guys that would compliment Cousins. It looks like Walker isn't going to be a top 10 pick due to his size and we might be able to pick him up with a trade for a mid teens pick or we could look to sign someone like brooks in free agency.

But basically if we can't get one of the top couple guys I would seriously look at Kanter or Montiejunas both of whom could be great fits with our roster. Kanter as a very physical guy that can step back and hit an elbow jumper and play solid defense, and Motiejunas as a guy who can be a 3pt threat at the PF spot and has very high potential, a guy like that should create plenty of space for Cousins and evans to work with.

^^vesley? I'm not sure that he is really as good as some think he is. From what I have seen of him he reminds me of a taller Casspi and we don't really need a 2nd one of those on the team. He can't be a PF because it's just clearly not a position he would do well in. His ability to stretch the floor would be nice but ultimately we could find that same characteristic in a player that better fits the mold of a PF and allow casspi to develop into the starting SF that he seems ready to become.
