Dr Mufasa mock 06/23/11 - Final ed.

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Tue Dec 28, 2010 9:23 pm

1. Sacramento Kings - PG Kyrie Irving

The one surefire star talent in the draft. They take BPA over worrying about how he'll fit with Tyreke

2. Minnesota Timberwolves - SG/SF Harrison Barnes

Meh I think Perry is the clear #2 prospect but he doesn't work with Beas and Love at all who I think Kahn wants there long term. I have the Wolves trading this pick if they land here but if not, they take Barnes

3. Washington Wizards - SF/PF Perry Jones II

They're estatic to get a talent like Jones at 3. Good fit with Wall, super high upside, and probably won't contribute enough to win them much next year. Leonosis all but admitted to tanking when he was on Bill Simmons podcast - he sounded like a RealGM poster blowing Oklahoma City and Portland and talking about how if they were going to bad, he wanted to have as high picks as possible instead of no mans land

4. Cleveland Cavaliers - PF Mason Plumlee

Most underrated prospect right now. Legit 6'10 and an outstanding athlete who plays above the rim despite being a white guy, and shows good signs of a future face up game. Has some Blake Griffin in him. He's one of the few guys with 18/10 type all-star upside available here and I think Cleveland goes for the HUA (highest upside available). I almost put Montiejunas here instead for that reason.

5. New Jersey Nets - SF/PF Terrence Jones

Very productive college freshman, fits right into their lineup as a big SF. Won't take Sullinger or the Euro bigs because of Favors/Lopez, won't take a PG. I think this is 10 spots too high like Terrence Williams was, but eh.

6. LA Clippers - PF/C Jonas Valanciunas

Nice long term fit beside Griffin and Gordon. Tough rebounder, defender, won't take too many shots. Kaman's on his way out.

7. Detroit Pistons - C Enes Kanter

Think he's coming out if he's projected highly. They need a defensive C prospect badly and adding another perimeter scorer, SF, or PF would be like giving Snooki another drink.

8. Toronto Raptors - SF/PF John Henson

Would normally say another HUA team. But that's Montiejunas and we're not taking him. Probably not Vesely, I think he's done with the Euro thing for PR reasons. So I'll say Henson who is this year's 6'10 with a huge wingspan SF Al Farouq-Aminu/Thad Young pick.

9. Charlotte Bobcats - PF/C Donatas Montiejunas

They can afford to take an offense only upside player. Though knowing the Bobcats, they'll probably do something stupid like take Derrick Williams here

10. Philadelphia 76ers - PF Jared Sullinger

Another don't give Snooki another drink team. Picking another PG/SG/SF would be a disaster. A center would fit best, there's not many available though. I suppose a PF could work for long term if Brand is getting moved as soon as he can.

11. Golden State Warriors - SF Jan Vesely

Kemba is the big dropper at this point, but the Warriors won't take him. Vesely is an outstanding fit dunking Curry's lobs.

12. Phoenix Suns - PG Kemba Walker

The unfortunate truth, they need a replacement for Nash. Probably lucky to get Kemba this low

13. Memphis Grizzlies - PF Derrick Williams

They'll desperately need a PF if Zbo goes and he'll be a solid replacement, though like Xavier Henry, upside is limited. Funny that the biggest tankers of all are in the 10-14 weak picks range.

14. Houston Rockets - PG Josh Selby

No idea where they'll fit him, but I can say about that about every position for the Rockets except C where nobody is available here and Selby is BPA I guess

I'd be pretty shocked if Barnes went ahead of Jones. I'd be floored if Plumlee went in the top 5.

Minny is the only team I see taking Barnes over Perry

Pretty good draft and I agree that Irving is the best player in this class but I just can't see Sacramento drafting him. I think we could see him fall to Cleveland. Also that may be just a tad too high for Plumlee.

Barnes really isn't good and the players like him that have been picked recently, Evan Turner and Gordon Hayward, have pretty much completely bombed in the NBA.

Plumlee doesn't look like a lotery pick right now, let alone top 5 IMO. I think him and Selby will eventually slide down your draft board.

Vesely would be a great fit with our new "all-white-guys-no-defense" frontcourt.

Pistons taking Kanter is a dream scenario

Would rather have Kemba than Kanter. For all we know Kanter is the C version of Harrison Barnes, very hyped up but fails to live up to it.

Pistons have their C for the next 10 years in Monroe. They need a PG and PF more than a C at this point. Walker/Stuckey/Daye/Jerebko/Monroe is very solid. If Kanter was BPA I wouldnt be adverse to taking him but he's certainly not my first choice with Kemba Walker still on the board.

I don't think that I would say that either have been busts just yet... Hayward has looked good in the past couple of games and Turner was the #2 pick....

I disagree that the Wolves would take Barnes over Jones. The Wolves already have 2 SF's they are trying to pigeonhole into the SG spot. Yes, they already have Beasley and Love at the 3-4, but the Wolves brass loves versatility and they feel like they need a more athletic player in the front court.

LOL if only Curry could toss lobs.

Don't mind the pick here. Vesely has some nice upside, and won't hurt to take a flyer out on him in the late lottery. Kemba Walker wouldn't be a bad choice if we decide to trade one of Curry/Monta. Trading down might be an option as we really need bigs. None seem worth it outside the top 5 or so.

What? How can he fail when he didn't even play 1 game?
I see him as a PF in the NBA so he could be that PF for the pistons. To me he is definitely the best big man in that draft.

01/15/11

1. Cleveland Cavaliers - PG Kyrie Irving
2. Minnesota Timberwolves - SF/PF Perry Jones
3. Sacramento Kings - PF/C Jonas Valanciunas
4. New Jersey Nets - SG Josh Selby
5. Washington Wizards - SG/SF Harrison Barnes
6. Toronto Raptors - C Enes Kanter
7. Detroit Pistons - PF Jared Sullinger
8. LA Clippers - SF/PF Terrence Jones
9. Milwaukee Bucks - PF/C Donatas Montiejunas
10. Charlotte Bobcats - SF/PF Derrick Williams
11. Golden State Warriors - SF John Henson
12. Houston Rockets - SF Jan Vesely
13. Phoenix Suns - PG Kemba Walker
14. Memphis Grizzlies - PF Marcus Morris

Kyrie or Perry for Cleveland was a tough one, I went with Kyrie. It's becoming a PG's/ballhandling league, Kyrie can be the man on a Cleveland team.

Still don't know what to do with Minny but decided to go with Perry for Krapinsky's reasons, Kahn thinks he needs a superstar so he tries for it with Perry.

Kings like Valanciunas as a defensive PF beside Cousins

Selby is a guy who I think will be in vogue, it sounds like he's a legit 6'3 and Eric Gordon size and has everything else. We all know NJ won't be picking there, but I have to act like they will for now

Washington wants upside, so they take a chance at a superstar in Barnes beside Wall. Raptors get a defensive C in Kanter. Monroe plays C for Detroit so they take Sullinger for PF. Clips get a starting SF/PF in Jones, both he and Aminu can likely log PF minutes. Bucks need offensive talent and go for the upside in Montiejunas. Bobcats take a better in college than the NBA guy as usual. Henson and Vesley fit in GS and Hou. Phoenix takes the fall of the draft in Kemba as their Nash replacement. Memphis gets a PF replacement for Zbo on the cheap

Plumlee's off because I'm betting on him staying at Duke

"For all we know" is an expression. Im not saying that he is going to fail, Im saying that its a possibility. I dont want to draft a player based on hype alone thats what got Detroit Darko.

Also, Dr. Mufasa- John Henson isn't a SF, he is a PF. You pull him away from the hoop and out on the perimeter and you lose his rebounding & shotblocking- and those are two of his strongest skill sets

I doubt it.

The Kings will always go for BPA in their point of view & Irving seems to fit the bill. At the worst, they will trade the rights of Irving for rights of ______ + major incentive.

1/22/10

1. Cleveland Cavaliers - PG Kyrie Irving
2. Sacramento Kings - PF Perry Jones III
3. Minnesota Timberwolves - C Enes Kanter
4. New Jersey Nets - PF/C Jonas Valanciunas
5. Washington Wizards - SF Terrence Jones
6. Toronto Raptors - SF/PF John Henson
7. Detroit Pistons - PF Jared Sullinger
8. LA Clippers - SF Jan Vesely
9. Milwaukee Bucks - PF Derrick Williams
10. Charlotte Bobcats - PG/SG Josh Selby
11. Golden State Warriors - C Lucas Nogueira
12. Houston Rockets - PF/C Donatas Montiejunas
13. Phoenix Suns - SG Alec Burks
14. Memphis Grizzlies - PF Marcus Morris

Had trouble with the Toronto pick. Selby and Sullinger look like the consensus BPAs there, but it's a rotten fit with Derozan, Bargnani, Davis, Amir as the main young guys on the team. So I went with Henson or Vesely. What would fix it is Wash and Tor swapping since I expect Wash would be fine with Sullinger over Terrence if compensated with Mia's 1st

Selby is the guy who seems like he's going higher than 10, with this lineup he drops tho

Not sure about Nogueira in the lottery but I didn't love anyone else for the GSW and it seems they'd be looking for a legit center. 7'0 and athletic with no other Cs in sight, I could see a lottery pick on Lucas. I think Nogueira being thick and having a good attitude seperates him from Whiteside last year

I now have Barnes staying in college

Do you know enough about Nogueira to have him go at #11? I sure don't. There's next to nothing out there on him.
