Is Rodgers Better Than Favre Ever Was?

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Sun Jan 16, 2011 10:25 am

Note - it isn't whether Rodgers has had a better career than Favre, or whether he'll break Favre's records. The question is whether Rodgers is playing at a higher level right now than Favre ever did.

Discuss.

Gut instinct says hell yes because I never am thinking "please don't throw an idiotic interception." Rodgers is everything you could ever want in a QB. /manlove

The picks are the biggest difference. Favre had 30 in 24 playoff games. At crunch time I would cringe on every throw. It might be a spectacular TD, it might be a horrible game changing pick. I don't even think about picks with AR.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The biggest Favre honk I know said last night he never thought he would say this, but he feels Rodgers is better than Favre.....mostly because of superior decision making.....if Favre was watching he must have took a ride over to Brandi's condo after that game....

When both are playing their best, it is close. When both are playing "normal" playoff football, it's Rodgers, and to be honest it really isn't that close. Rodgers rarely makes stupid mistakes, Favre does often when the pressure is on.

Rodgers will absolutely destroy Favre's career marks in TD/INT ratio and QB ratting. Hopefully he trumps him in Super Bowls too.

Tough call because it's been so many years since Favre was truly at his highest level. I will say that yesterday's performance was better than any playoff game Favre has ever played including SBXXXI

People only remember the last ten years of Favre, starting with those six picks against the Rams in January 2002.

The first eight were pretty spectacular and Favre had to go up against some juggernaut teams.

Favre also wasn't built for domes. If the game next week is in Chicago and it is 20 degrees, I take 1995 Favre over 2011 Rodgers. On the other hand, if the Super Bowl is in Dallas, I take 2011 Rodgers. A Rod can really use his footwork on turf.

That's true but it's not always about pure numbers. Take into account he was playing in the most important packer game ever and the great audibles he made at the line an I think his performance holds more weight than the numbers indicate. Last year, Rodgers' numbers in the cards game were incredible but I still see it as so-so game/learning experience for him for three crucial mistakes. The int on the first pass of the game, missing Jennings on the first play of OT, and the fumble/int to end the game. Not trying to take away from either dude's performances, just saying how pure statistics can be misleading.

I also feel that Rodgers is more dedicated to his craft than Favre ever was. I don't think we would ever hear stories of Rodgers and his lineman partying till the wee hours of the night before a huge game. (superbowl)

This is a good point. Favre is my favorite all time player but I still look at his career with a little bit of sadness for two reasons. #1, he was ridiculously good, but he could have been so much greater and accomplished a lot more with less distractions and more dedication, and #2, he never got to play with great talent on offense other than a few years of sterling sharpe early in his career.

If anything, this game sealed it. Favre was amazing when he escaped those rushes, no question, but he was probably 50/50 boom bust kind of result of those. This game (and others) Rodgers is perfect and makes the throw count and avoids making silly mistakes. He's also very very mobile, Favre never was, but then again, it's hard to look back when he was Rodgers age.

We all cringed on every throw. Favre needed to be managed and Holgram did it great. After Holgram left Favre did w/e the heck he wanted to. I trust Rodgers 100% and I feel if he can't get it done than no QB could.

I didn't know 1/2 as much about football when Favre played as I do now, so I didn't cringe when Favre threw it. I thought every pass was gonna be a TD.

Favre had the most unbelievable arm I have ever seen before. I watched a game from 96 against the Bears, and Favre seriously worked magic. Every pass was a rocket and he was always fitting it in places that no other QB could do.

Having said that, Rodgers has some sort of perfection gene that makes him unlike any other QB. He has the makings of a HOF QB for sure. I won't be able to compare the two until it's all said and done, although I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to this question is answered before 2015.

Not sure if he will be able to top Favre career wise. Favre has the ring, the 3 MVPs, almost never had losing seasons and has about every record imaginable...

But Rodgers, right now, is playing as good as any QB ever. He needs to keep it up for two more games. :D Last nights performance was unreal.

Scroll to 2:30 and it seriously looks like Rodgers.

It must be mentioned...how many road playoff wins did Favre have his entire career? I believe only two, right? Detroit and then San Francisco. I can't think of any others off the top of my mind.

Meanwhile, Rodgers has won two road playoff games in one year. Yeah, that'll work.
