It's real annoying to teach a new SG the triangle (assuming Shaw takes over). Since Brown's bird rights are there, they can resign him easily. My guess, let him take a trip around the league, bring back an offer to Mitch and let him match that.
As for Barnes, that's to be decided. MLE can bring him back.

The figure is a pretty big deal. Would you have liked it if Odom is paid 20 million a year?

I think because of the potential lockout next year Shannon is less likely to opt out of his current contract. Barnes I think will opt out no matter what happens in the CBA talks because he should be payed more the Lakers were very lucky to sign him at such a low number. Unless something goes really wrong in his rehab and he can't play the rest of this season and the playoffs then he'll probably stick with his current contract.

Re: LAL Players Salaries
The next CBA is going to dictate the future of all contracts! It may contain something like a 20% slashing of all existing contracts. The main problem is that as Players Salaries continue to increase 10% or more each year, income generated from basketball does NOT increase at the same %'s.
Owners cannot raise ticket costs, parking, hot dog, beer, T-shirts and programs 30% over a 3-year period or 60% over 6 years!
Players are going to have to be happy with less money, as will Kobe.
My guess is that unlike Shaq, when Kobe over plays 20 minutes a game, averages 10 points and only makes $2 or 3 mil a year, he will retire....

I don't like the Celtics, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like the Celtics, denigrate means 'to put down'.

I like our team as is.
SF:Artest/Barnes/Walton/Ebanks
PF:Gasol/Odom/Caracter
C:Bynum/Ratliff
SG:Bryant/Brown
PG:Fisher/Blake
as for Phil Jackson if he leaves I want Jerry Slone or Gregg Popovich
Nate McMillan
Rick Carlisle
Tom Thibodeau
as for these 3 I like them too, but Slone and Pop would get my vote

As for Barnes and Brown leaving I think they would stay after this season and try for another ring

No way in hell we get Pop, Spurs would never let that happen. Don't think Sloan happens either.

Brown is probably gone after this season. And if Kobe can get a 7th ring before his current contract is up I can honestly see him retiring. He would have surpassed MJ in ring total and total points scored, and would undeniably be in the GOAT discussion.

The next Lakers coach is probably going to be Shaw. And Brown because of a potential lockout I think is less likely to opt put he isn't an all star or a semi all star taking a chance and opting out and maybe going until potentially next January without a contract because of the CBA negotiations seems to risky for him in my point of view.

Kobe is not going to be worth 24-28 mil in the next three years, Pau will also be vastly overpaid if he continues to struggle, and Bynum was never worth 14 mil/year in the first place. I think we still have another two year window for contention so I am not too worried about the payroll. Besides, Mitch seem to know how to do salary dumps so the payroll should be well managed.
Relative to the rest of the league, our contracts really are nothing to complain about. With the exception of Kobe's (and considering Buss' love affair and the fact that he is the best player in the nba its understandable), all of our other big players are seemingly paid below market value. Look at these '10-'11 salaries:
Rashard Lewis: 20M
Michael Redd: 18M
AK47:17M
VC: 17M
K-Mart: 16M
Brand: 15M
Peja: 15M
I think we can agree that Pau, Bynum, and LO are all more valuable than those guys, so them making
17M, 13M, and 8M comes across as a steal to me. Then consider Barnes for 1.7M and we aren't doing that bad.

I like our salaries (okey not Lukes)
NBA is about wining and to win you have to pay some stars more then they are value.
Yes in two years Kobe is not a 30M player but this is about wining a rings and i think we have 3-4 years left with Kobe to try to win.
Gasol is great for us and he help our win and so i think his value is fair
Bynum is the BIG ? We would not have won with out thim and i think he will be a top 3 C in the NBA and he is still young. So i hope we can have him for more years.
Odom contract is fair and i think he has been great and will be great for another 3-4 years for us.
We need to pay good players to win and i want to spent some money know to win because we have a great shoot. Then there is another think when Kobe stop playing i think we will have some cap space to go after another superstar and in 2012/13 season we can go after D.Howard if he wants to come to us and we can offer them Bynum, draft picks and some solid players or just wait to sign him for free(and then we will not sign Bynum again and will offer Odom a longer but smallar contract).
If you are back to back NBA champions live is good and we should be thankful for our great owner and Mitch doing a good job.
