How is an owner and a part owner of a team allowed to talk to and have meetings with players who are currently on ANOTHER team? How is that not tampering?

Is that allowed? If it's allowed then what ISN'T allowed??

anything is allowed if the players current team allows it. In other words if there is a trade that has been accepted by all parties but in order for it to go through a team in question has to come to an agreement with a player involved.

I kinda feel bad for the nets if they give up picks, talent, and cap space to just have a star in melo..a decent player in Lopez, an old fogey like Rip...and well no PG, depth, or young talent....

Billups>Felton.. I don't care what kind of season Felton is having. I don't care if we don't end up getting Billups, I still stand by that statement.

Down with NJN since Kenny and Derrick

I find it funny how people on this forum keep calling these guys "old". Some of the older players in the league are the best in the league. You people were saying it would be an aweful idea to sign jefferson back. HE'S YOUNGER THAN KOBE. Hamilton is the same age as kobe. So all of you wouldn't sign kobe if given the chance right? He's bad because he's "old" right? 32 is "old" right? You people expect to rebuild for five years to have a good team. In five years, all your young players will be "old" according to your standards. Living in a fantasy world it seems.

I feel bad for the Knicks for having nobody good to trade and having to watch their cross river rival, the Nets, land the player they covet so much. Actually I dont really feel bad about that at all :D

I have a bad feeling that this trade isn't happening. I wouldn't sign an extension with us if I was Melo.

im excited to be relevant again. there are melo fans everywhere and people bought nuggets things purely bc of him and they use the nuggets in 2k and such bc of him and now the nets will be one of those teams... whether melo is a superstar or not is left up to your own opinion but he is iconic name and is one of the faces of the nba and im really excited that he will be a net

Even if we get Melo, the Nets team in 2k12 will still suck. We won't be used because there are teams like LA, Heat, Boston, Magic Spurs, Dallas who are miles better than us on paper.

Also, why does it matter if people buy Melos jersey again? Why should that matter to fans? Unless you're a shareholder of the Nets.

No Nets fan should be thinking about being "relevant" for the wrong reasons, you sound like a child begging for attention just because the Knicks for once are having a good season and we've been losing for 2-3 YEARS (that is an incredibly short time in terms of building a team). Unless you're Proky, this shouldn't be any Nets' fans mindset.

Lol begging for attention? no. is it so terrible that i just want a team that will play in may? do you understand how difficult it would be to put together a team thats better than miami or orlando over the next 5 years? come on, u dont think it wouldnt be great to turn on a nets game and expect them to have a chance to win again? u also cant tell me it wouldnt be cool to have nets fans all over the country because of melo. hes just one of those guys that gets fans no matter what team hes on.

and as far as the video game thing that was just a little thing i threw in there but ummm a lottta people play with the nuggets now instead of those other teams so why wouldnt that translate to the nets especially if billups, rip, melo, and lopez are on the team who are good in video games

Yes begging for attention, the fact that you actually said, "im excited to be relevant again" is an indication to the attention you want this team to have, even though it's at such a huge price.

It's not terrible to want a team to play in May, but literally we might as well not be there, we'd get knocked out of the first round, second round max if we get lucky with the seedings (which at this point is impossible, if we make the play-offs this year, we'll get the 8th seed) considering the super teams that's out there. And while we're on this subject, do you know how difficult it is to build a contender today with all this super teams around, I'd rather build a team that'll contend in 5 years where LA will probably be without Kobe, the Heat triangle would've separated, Boston would only have Rondo, Duncan would've retired, and so on and so on. In 5 years, the only likely teams to contend (if they keep their main pieces together) are Chicago, Orlando, and OKC. I'd take those chances.

Of course I'd like the Nets to win games, any fans would, but at the end of the day these would just be empty wins, not only would we have risked out position in the draft, but also we would get knocked out easily. It's literally pointless, it's a waste of time. Remember the years of VC, Kidd and RJ. We're going to be living upon that mediocrity for years to come if the trade goes down. I also feel you overrate Melo way too much, your last 2 posts are making him sound like he's Lebron, when he's clearly nowhere near.

The only difference with the video games is that those that use the Nuggets would us us instead. Even then, that'd be a VERY small minority. At the end of the day, on paper, in real life, in video games, there are at least 10 teams better than us. PS Rip sucks.

With this debacle of a trade, how are we suppose to get Paul again?

Did you just compare Rip Hamilton to Kobe Bryant?

Definitely not sure if serious......

If brook can dominate like he has the last 2 games, if I were Melo, I'd want to come here. Assuming the promise of CP3 is on the table as well, a core of CP3, Melo, Rip, Humph, & Lopez - We'd be an immediate contender ... The only person missing from that is CP3, and Billups & Farmar can get the job done if/until that happens!

On a side note, why are the Nuggets always on ESPN/TNT/NBA TV. I'm getting bored watching them and no one else.

Just show the Clippers every night, Blake Griffin makes them the most exciting team in the NBA.

Amen, if I have to watch another Denver or Portland game, I'm going to throw up. I would love to get to watch the Clips play a couple times a week. Line them up against Golden State, Minnesota and New York and watch the race to 120.....
