I'd still like to see him whoop Tito's butt for a third and final time.

Ha. Good timing I came here to edit a comment, I think this is the first time I've gotten MMA news on realgm lol. This is while having the UG and Bloody Elbow open this entire time. Selective reading, etc.

Chuck was the sh^t.

Loved watching him fight and hope the head shots don't affect him too badly down the line.

Good news about the position, hopefully he can help further the sport.

I'd really like to see some ex-fighters (or retiring now) get involved in the Judging and Refee'ing community now though, could do with an insiders touch.

:scratcheshead:

everyone hated Chuck 3-4 years ago, trashed his abilities, called him a protected fighter and over-hyped. he's done nothing but lose brutally since then, but has somehow earned everyone's affection. go read the talk before his first UFC fight with Rampage. he was trashed endlessly on every message board I saw, including this one. he's lost, what, 7 times since then? 8? 9?

Just a hunch, but the sudden Chuck love may have something to do with people being reactionary to "boring" or "lay n play" fighters.

I notice a lot of talk/threads/cliches on mma message boards about guys who "just bring it" or "come to fight every night," etc. Probably aren't too many guys that fit this bill more than Chuck.

Fixed.........

only fanboys who never fight never train and don't understand the sport would trash Chuck Lidell...

He went to Brazil to fight Pele (Chute box) in Vale Tudo...he came to the UFC and fought the best HW/LHW's at the time.....HE also WENT TO JAPAN/Pride and fought!!.....he has traveled all over the world trying to fight top guy's....I never understood how a fan could say he was "protected" when he went to Japan and fought Metzger , Overeem , and Rampage?......

Oh yeah...he also had the greatest fight in UFC history(IMO) vs Wand!............

The guy is the definition of a "Ultimate Fighter".................yeah I know.

(not calling you a Pride Fanboy...I'm just trying to explain some of the crazy/bias stuff I have read)

It's true. Very few people, if anyone, fought such high-level fighters so consistently. He deserves insane respect.

I also think for fans that just started getting into UFC, Chuck is one of the poster boys for the sport. He was doing interviews for UFC, was on Entourage and I'm sure his TUF time didn't hurt his image either. Chuck was always an exciting fighter but every jaw has an expiration date.

Don't forget that Chuck had a look.

He understood that a mohawk was going to be a hit.

When people think of the prototypical MMA fighter, they're going to conjure up something that looks a lot like him.
