Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
Not for nothing, but these are the 1st and 5th highest scoring teams in the league respectively.

I'm glad I'll have a reason to watch the slam dunk contest with year with Griffin in it. Although I feel like my expectations are way too high.

That's what happens when you have a star player and win a lot. I'm sure if the Nets get Melo, even if they don't make the playoffs this year, will still have 10+ nationally televised games next season.

We've been listening about this potential deal for 4 months now, it's gotten to the point that we just don't care and want it to happen/fall apart for good.

I'm with Jeff, this has been exhausting and I really don't care what happens as long as this concludes. Hearing reports that the Nets are on the verge of acquiring but then nothing happens. A lot of fans are tired so I can only imagine how this is taking a toll on the players involved in the rumors. Where will they be going, how will it impact there families. There new home maybe on the other side of the country away from there families.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
Nuggets’ Anthony says he doesn’t know about meeting with Nets
By Chris Dempsey
The New Jersey Nets are set to make a pitch to Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony – only, he may not want to hear it.
“I’m having a meeting?” he said after the Nuggets loss at San Antonio on Sunday night. “I know nothing about that.”
Briefed on the numerous reports confirming the Nuggets have given permission to New Jersey to talk to Anthony directly, thereby circumventing the NBA’s tampering rule, Anthony bristled.
“I’ve never heard about that,” he said. “That’s news to me. I can’t talk to them people. The Denver Nuggets still pay me. I haven’t talked to anybody – Masai (Ujiri, Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations) or Josh (Kroenke, team president) or any other teams. So for that speculation to be going around out there like that, that’s false.”
Then the Nuggets forward took it a step further.
“I don’t want to talk to nobody,” Anthony said. “I let the front office handle that type of stuff. It ain’t my job to be talking to New Jersey, New York, Lakers, Dallas, no one. I still won’t step into something like that. I’ve seen a lot of people go through that.
“For me to sit here and say I want to talk to them or Masai or Josh gave them permission to talk to me, I think that’s false. If that was the case I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call from Masai or Josh about that.”
Asked what he would do when he got the call from one of the Nuggets executives, Anthony said, “I haven’t gotten it yet.”
The sticking point in a Nuggets-Nets trade continues to be Anthony’s reluctance to sign a 3-year, $65 million contract extension with the Nets. This trade won’t go through until the Nets are assured he will be there longer than just the remainder of this season.
Asked if he thought Sunday’s game was his last in Denver, Anthony replied, “No, not at all.
“I’m going to play Wednesday against Oklahoma City, and then against the Lakers. Then Indiana. Yep.”
Before I was just annoyed about this situation. Will a trade happen or will not a trade happen? Now, I'm more frustrated at Carmelo. I understand that he doesn't want to lose his fans and he's even reported his situation as a "lose-lose" situation. In his ESPN interview, he addressed issues concerning the Knicks, Nets, and Denver all in very neutral terms. The part I'm getting frustrated with is Carmelo's unwillingness to state what he wants to do/where he wants to go.
He's already described going home as a dream so we know that playing in New York would be ideal for him if everything else was equal. He even seemed giddy when he talked about being a player that can open up the Nets stadium in Brooklyn, which is 5 minutes away from where he grew up. Well, that is all nice and dandy but be a man already and say what your final decision. In fact, all he would need to say at this point is that "I don't want to go with the Nets". The case would be closed and Denver would just have to rent him to a team.
If he's stalling so he can pass the trade deadline (and go to the Knicks) just say it so that you're not holding up the lives and careers of 14+ other NBA players and 3+ franchises.
If he was smart, he would agree to the meeting and tell the NJ FO that he doesn't want to be in NJ to their faces so that no one else but them can hear him say it and it will save him from a PR blunder. He needs to make a decision quick before he does says something that will put him in the category of LeBron and I don't think any player wants to do that.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
He is just worried about the legality issues, of what he can and can't say to the media, which is why all his answers about specific stuff(like a meeting with Nets officials) are so vague and dismissive. I'm sure he's been coached up not to say anything about the actual stuff going on.
Hopefully, for his sake and our own, tonight's game will be the last media hounding he gets until he agrees to a trade in a couple days.

Why does he seemed so irked and saying this-- is it because he is getting anoyed with all the questions....and also
Why can't he just call the owner of the GM, and not just wait for a call from them?

I really hope that you're right but it's just really getting annoying now. I was posting a lot on this topic until the end of this past week where it just seemed like nothing is going on. Like I know talking to reporters is pissing him off right now, but he never got questioned while LBJ received and answered questions for the last 3 seasons. To me his comments after tonight's game are borderline "I need to hear from management before commenting on this stuff" and "I just don't want to go". I hope you're right that we're near the end of this either way.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
Knickplaya, I think Melo is trying his hardest not to piss off his Nuggets fans. He's trying to avoid being the villain, he's made it clear that the Nuggets don't have a great chance of re-signing him but he's trying to make it seem like he's willing to honor his contract and play it out.
If you saw the ESPN interview he said this will be a lose-lose situation, Nuggets fans will be angry at him and if he says no to the Nets then he will piss off the Nets fan base. I don't see why Knicks fans would be mad because what can you do if the opposing GM is basically giving you the stiff arm. I think he's trying his hardest to not be hated.

Yeah I can understand that, but after last season I think you guys deserve to get someone like Melo. Any fan base that can withstand a 12-70 season is a good one.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
Well his last statement is pretty clear. He also mentioned the dallas mavericks and la lakers so melo wants to go to a winning situation. He said money is not so important so clearly he is not so worried about the new cba. He said this is his ninth year so he wants to be a winner. The tone of his voice suggests that he'll consider re-sigining with denver if there if they are going to be a championship contender which is highly unlikely given they have failed to add another superstar the past few summers. Then there's New York that is already up and coming and by adding him he would be a contender but as it seems right now they can only add him in the offseason. Finally there is New Jersey where Mikhail is desperately trying to add some status to his new Brooklyn nets. However the nets are atleast 2 years away from consolidating into their new arena. Other than Lopez their roster is rail thin after the denver trade. That situation is even worse than Denver and Melo has made it a point that money is not the main factor so essentially that crosses off New Jersey out of the mix. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure he doesn't want New Jersey or Denver.
It's crystal clear though that he would like to join LA or Dallas perhaps even moreso than NYK if winning is his ultimate goal.
Jersey's owner is insisting on meeting with Melo but you have to figure there must be a reason why so many players are turning down jersey since last summers free agency. Kobe once told Melo to follow his heart so we all know he will make a decision like Bosh and Lebron and go to a team that gives him the best chance of winning.
If New Jersey forces a trade they better get CP3 on board immediately this summer otherwise they will defintiely lose Melo with 0 compenstion as he has no intentions of re signing.

This post is full of so much fail.
I hate when people say some of this stuff.
Brooklyn at least two years away?
It's master lock that we'll be there in 2012-2013.
Melo not resigning with zero compensation?
It's master lock that we won't trade for him without an extension.
This post try's to mask the rubbish that is it's main topic of it's worth by throwing in obligatory fluff about what is nothing more then pure assumption and flawed logic.
I don't know if he wants to come to Jersey, but I do know this is bull **** rhetoric and agenda attempting to be masked, quite sloppily may I add, by a bunch of backhanded speculative mish mash.
Get this trash off our board.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
anyone else dumbfounded about Denver's internal communication throughout this deal? Publicly they're treating this negotiation like the cuban missile crisis. Internally it sounds like Uriji never says a word to Carmelo and wants to simply pretend this isn't going on. Perhaps they're intentionally trying to keep Melo in the dark since they're pissed at him for wanting out but this whole thing strikes as amateur hour.

Somewhere in a bar, Isiah Thomas and Omar Minaya are having margaritas and laughing at the Denver front office.
That's how badly this has been handled.

totally. At this point it would suck for Nets fans to not get Melo only because it would be likely that he goes to the Knicks. They wouldnt be a championship team but they would be a 50 win team and we would be a 20 win team getting our **** pushed into constantly thanks to the Prokhorov BB and such. But whatever as time goes on that would pass. We'd have favors. King is going to make some moves no matter what. Lopez will get better. Harris + Humphries could both bring back mid/late first round picks at a minimum. We would get a top 5. We would have even more assets available to go after Paul/Deron not to mention being 1 year closer to Bklyn.
For Uriji it would be catastrophic if he ends up with a lesser deal. If he ends up with Chandler (due a $50-60 mil extension coming), a draft pick in the 20's, and Landry Fields he will be run out of Denver. And that offer is probably a lot richer then what the Knicks would do. If he ends up with nothing he will be a complete laughing stock - plus their own pick with be terrible thanks to playing a full/most of the year with Melo. For every game they wait to deal him to us so our record gets worse, their record gets better.
I can't imagine the public-ness of these negotiations has had a positive effect on Ujiri's image in front of other GM's.
